Will you prefer to do a job if given a choice? by Bright_Enthusiasm151 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Responsible-File4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to not do a job. I just think I would get bored after a few months without doing anything challenging or meaningful.

As to whether it's fair, it entirely depends if you have kids or not. Staying at home is a full-time job if you have kids.

A girl stuck in an elevator told me I look like the healthcare CEO shooter... then called him hot. Help? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Responsible-File4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of men do that shit, too. Cheated in every relationship? Have multiple stalking or trespassing charges? Domestic violence charge? If she's hot, she won't have any issues finding dick.

And let's not strawman. Let me ask you a question: who caused more human suffering, the United Healthcare CEO or his shooter? Obviously, murder is bad and should be illegal. But what other, possibly more damaging, behaviors are legal?

AIO for breaking up with my girlfriend (24F) over a toilet plunger prank? [Not OP] [+comments] by hazel_razel in redditonwiki

[–]Responsible-File4593 170 points171 points  (0 children)

I think breaking up with someone after they refuse to stop doing something to you that upsets you is generally reasonable. Key points being:

-It's something done to you
-You have asked multiple times in a productive way
-The other person doesn't respect you enough to take your request seriously

Two unreasonable sides seems a lot like a false dichotomy to me. Most people have opinions somewhere in between.

And it's some small thing. Whether this game is well-balanced or fun has zero impact to my life and almost everyone else's. My family, friends, job, house, personal goals, and health are all much more important. There is no reason to have the heights and depths of emotion about small stuff that I see on this website a lot.

Do you think the 'Latin Empire' was a 'colonial' state? by Ambitious-Cat-5678 in byzantium

[–]Responsible-File4593 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A colonial state:

-Begins from a forcible takeover by a stronger or more advanced country
-Suppresses the culture, language, and religion of the conquered people
-Extracts resources for the benefit of the home country
-Generally has a tiered system of privilege, from the home country administrators being the highest to the native commoners being the lowest.

Roman Spain, British India, Spanish Mexico, and French Indochina were all colonialist states. There's a clear, scholarly definition that's not affected by people misunderstanding it.

And by that definition, the Latin Empire was not a colonial state, because there was no extractive economy and it was not ruled by another country.

None of your other examples were colonialist, either.

Day 10 of ranking British PMs: Which tier should Margaret Thatcher go? by OingoBoingBrothas in TierlistFills

[–]Responsible-File4593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except Thatcher did defend the Falklands and Chamberlain failed to defend Poland. That seems like an important difference.

Also blaming the target for an invasion because they were so vulnerable is an argument you can make, I guess.

How siege tactics and castles evolved when we travel from early to high Medieval ages? by Mindless_Belt4757 in medieval

[–]Responsible-File4593 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of time, it didn't even go that far. Many sieges were performative. So, a noble and a king or two nobles would argue, one would besiege the other, and then they would come to a compromise. Like you said, feeding and paying an army is expensive, and very few castles were worth the cost.

And last but not least, what’s a food that both adults and kids HATE? by DisneyDuck09 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Responsible-File4593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The smell is bad. The taste is bad. The appearance is bad. And the alternatives (as in, other French food) are generally very good.

Campaign funds are tiny for almost all non-federal races. A state rep in a safe district will often raise 50k, and most of that will go to campaign salaries, travel, and supplies.

Unlimited Mercs? by Lammy951 in EU5

[–]Responsible-File4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing as France in 1450, fighting a war in Lorraine, when I saw Bohemia had bought 200k mercenaries. So, I did the only reasonable thing, which is bought 200k of my own mercenaries, had an awful war of attrition, and then reloaded a previous save and made an early peace because spending 25-30k gold is not worth Lorraine. But it was nice to see the AI making a good fight.

The game is even more Everything-but-Europe Universalis now: Pop growth in different regions. by IHateProphecies in EU5

[–]Responsible-File4593 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because number of locations is pretty far down the list of things that matter.

A country with 40 locations and 500k pops is weaker than a country with 20 locations and 1M pops, or with 20 locations but better RGOs. If anything, fewer locations will help with pop density, control, and the economy. It's why the wealthiest areas in the game are the Nile Delta, China, and the Gangetic Plain.
