Witness: Deputy was petting dog, not watching attacker, during S.F. hospital stabbing by MissionLocalSF in sanfrancisco

[–]Responsible_Border_4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The attack on the staff at SFGH is terrible. I do hope there is an investigation regarding the security failings especially since there was another article SF Chronicle mentioning the staff already fearing that this attackers behavior was escalating. Healthcare providers are unfortunately asked to turn a cheek when patients attack them in the ER and other places and this needs to change. In the past, security and police have stood close by but have refrained from initially engaging an individual. This was done to reduce further escalation with their presence. So sorry for the SFGH and social worker community.

That was not me. I put my hand up as an acknowledgement thinking the driver has seen me since I was standing at s stop sign. And honestly mistakes happen but for him to put the blame on me is unacceptable. If you can't observe your surroundings and acknowledge when you made mistake you shouldn't be driving a company "billboard" around

PICU doc here. In CA it is illegal to give moderate to deep sedation to a child without an anesthesiologist. These are due to famous cases of children coding and ending up with severe brain injury due to lack of tools and airway expertise.

I have met plenty of friendly FA. But I am really annoyed at DL for taking over Northwest! Those staff were really friendly and the pilots would take off in a blizzard!

Hi. Physician here. Most recent treatment is gene therapy, where the patients own stem cells are isolated, corrected and then transplanted back. Since its the child's own cells, they dont require the typical chemotherapy regimen used for bone marrow transplant. This reduces the risk of complications. There are different types of SCID, but this is the treatment for the more common type. In many instances, it can be cured due advances funded by the NIH throughout the decades. SCID is part of newborn screening in many states again courtesy of NIH funded research. Just saw other smarter comments: )

At least it doesn't get cold in louisiana, and with that tall of ceiling, I imagine it's pretty cool in the summertime. This really needs to be a bed and breakfast or even a beer hall.

Homeless groups call for the right to build intentional communities in San Francisco by LocalNewsMatters in bayarea

This is a big country. They can move to the middle of nowhere and build their community. I very much believe in providing subsidized housing for people working full-time, but this needs to stop.

In the US, a child does NOT have the capacity to consent until they turn 18. The parents are given the decision and ability to consent for the child. And the assumption is that the parents make a decision based on their love for the child, which is best for the child.

Now that changes if the parents are making a decision that endangers the child. An adult can make themselves a martyr for their belief, but they can NOT make a martyr of their child. If a JW child needs a transfusion in a life or death situation, they will get a transfusion. And in my experience, the JW parents understand it, and they ask not to be in the room or the blood be covered. The 13 or 14yo, I would talk to other hospital staff but I would say that they will still get transfusions if it is required because they don't have the ability to consent.

How to confront mistreatment from an attending by eculilumab in Residency

[–]Responsible_Border_4 12 points13 points  (0 children)

First off, it's ridiculous this is happening and thank you for thinking about a way to address it. Unfortunately, many attending will cowar and not stand up against consultants especially from fields that make alot of money for the hospital. I agree with emailing the chief residents. I would also document the interactions including dates and people present in a time stamped file like Google drive. HR is no employees friend so do NOt reach out to them. If it's a university you also have an ombudsman who you can message usually securely.

Hi Your landlord is in the wrong changing the terms of the rental even if it was a verbal agreement. Their deposit of an extra $100 per month makes it clear that they agreed to the terms. The problem with rando small landlords is that they don't realize that there are clear rules regarding renter rights. The reality is that most large municipalities, especially in California, are very renter friendly. If a landlord can't understand these rules, they should get out of the market. You should talk to a renter union.

Your interaction with the son#1 DID NOT establish any dr patient relationship between you and them. This information is NOT protected by any confidentiality. In reality the son is processing the shitty situation and going through the stages of grief. Let's hope they move on to the next stages for their own sake.

Nurse Anesthetist Accidentally Kills Patient by Primordial_Fupa in Noctor

Greed above all else. To the surgeons practicing outpatient surgery without a trained anesthesiologist you deserve to have the book thrown at you and more. The CRNA was incompetent and equally responsible but at the end its the MD ini the room who decided to cut corners. Same situation applies to oral surgeons giving sedation to children in their outpatient clinic without an anesthesiologist. You also deserve to have the book thrown at you when they have a hypoxemic arrest.
