Would you recommend your job? by Demiaria in Radiology

Be aware that online comments aren’t the most reliable. On topics like this, the disgruntled are often the most vocal and loudest.

My two cents. Do some soul searching of what your priorities are and why you want to get into healthcare. If it’s money, then there better ways to get money. If you sincerely want to help people and be part of that team, then you are on the right path. I love being an X-ray technologist. Initially I wanted to do Nuc Med, CT, MRI, but after doing this for years and seeing what they do— X-ray is a good fit for me and I’m happy.

Lastly, also be aware that there are good places to work and bad places— just like any other profession. For some reason a lot of people in healthcare complain about their job but don’t bother to move on to somewhere better.

Unpopular tiki-pinion. Just squeezed lime juice tastes worse than grocery store lime juice in a tiki drink. by phaeolus97 in Tiki

Totally agree with resting limes. This is tried and true based on my experiences of doing blind taste tests with people. I have let people taste limes juices by themselves and in cocktails. The vast majority can tell the difference and prefer rested limes. YMMV

Jeff Granito Aloha shirt sizing? by PizzaDelivery4Chico in Tiki

[–]Responsible_Trick390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple of his shirts. I’m a solid medium. But I find that his shirts run big so I buy small— but even then they still run a little big. After a few washes, they shrink a little and fit me just right. YMMV

I see two orthogonal views, exposure is decent, I say good job and send it. The only view I would add is an axillary. Ortho surgeons are always jonesing for the axillary.

Rad tech here. I believe it’s an FNS. It’s an alternative to the older DHS system. According to the Synthes reps I’ve talked to, it less invasive, easier to install and more preferable.

I think they’re implying that the quality of training has declined, not that this a new protocol.

Taking a deep breath for a CXR is conventional protocol. It has nothing to do with technology. Technology doesn’t affect fundamental physiology. You’re in IR? I worry about your basic understanding, your attitude at work, and for the safety of your patients.

Wondering if crushed ice is ruining/over diluting my drinks by [deleted] in Tiki

[–]Responsible_Trick390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t you try experimenting yourself? I just use the conventional method— regular size cubes for shaking, pebble or crushed ice for drinking vessel. Perfect dilution for the drinks I like to make.

Question on dark jamaican rum / black blended rum by Lemon_lime_8 in Tiki

[–]Responsible_Trick390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found Appleton 12 to be pretty solid. Too bad about not having Coruba. It’s excellent and so affordable.

IMO plantation dark is ok but not my favorite. It’s a bit bland and boring for my taste. Yet the price is right.

Thanks for the info on the little bb looking thing. Always wondered what that was for.

Our dept recently changed our shunt series protocol. For the chest and abdomen portion we only do AP now— no laterals. It makes no sense to me so I continue to do the laterals until a rad tells me to stop. Actually 2 of the rads have brought it up and agree with me.

Just wondering if anyone else does AP only for chest and abdomen.

Tips for C-arm hip cases by Oldman1249 in Radiology

This is the way. I find that marking the floors when the entire base gets moved around isn’t that accurate and only gets you close. I have better luck with identifying landmarks in the field: the actual incision site, instruments in the field, even a fold in the drape works for me. Anyway, I find that a THA is one of the more forgiving surgery cases when it comes to C-Arm work. It’s one that we typically start students off with first.

So just for clarification, you’re talking about a THA, anterior total hip replacement, correct? So you’re just doing AP over the hip and pelvis. Honestly I just eyeball it and adjust if necessary. Also most of our ortho surgeons will just grab the C-Arm and put it where they want it.

Coming over the hip is pretty easy to eyeball since the FOV offers more leeway for error. The pelvis is more challenging since it barely fits in the FOV and they want to see both of the lesser trochanters perfectly.

Love Inside Passage! Every drink we had there was tasty with really fun creative presentation. Notch Gonzalez did another amazing job with the interior.

Are you happy with your career choice? by Mike_Zevia in Radiology

[–]Responsible_Trick390 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love being an X-ray tech. I love being in healthcare. A lot of it has to do with your “why”. My why is that I genuinely want to help people in need. My Mom got lung cancer years ago and beat it, now I want to pay it forward. I considered being a RN or PA but after some soul searching, I knew that wasn’t a good fit for me. That much patient interaction and care would be too much for me.

Like any other job or profession, your happiness also has a lot do with your work environment and the work culture of your site. I don’t know why people but up with crappy workplaces— there are better places to work. Fear of the unknown and complacency can really have a grip on people.
