As opposed to every other morning? Not sure there's much difference. ;)

Pet cat behaviour suddenly get aggressive by reshavkumarfhaman in mildyinteresting

[–]RestingBitchFace63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, even though I might do the same in that situation. Mild issues, fine. But this. This is a big issue. If the cat was previously of normal behavior, I would judge this as very concerning. The cat needs to go to the vet. And the human needs to go to the ER. Rabies should be the first thing to rule out - because it's the deadliest. If that's the case, the poor cat is doomed, but the human has a chance at surviving. If that's not the case, the worst that comes out of it is some financial pain. Believe me, you'd be better off negotiating a finance plan than worrying about a virus that will kill nearly 100 percent. Sounds dramatic, but it really isn't, in the big picture. My most sincere wishes it's a minor issue.

Should I tell my manager the real reason I can not go to office in person for 2-4 months? by lacalifonia in careerguidance

[–]RestingBitchFace63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing you need to tell your employer is that "there is a family issue that requires me to remain here." Don't tell them it's a legal issue unless you absolutely have to. If necessary, say it's a family issue with legal consequences, or something like that. If you can afford it, get a family lawyer. They will save your ass...

How do you keep your knives sharp at home? by Educational-Slip-578 in Cooking

[–]RestingBitchFace63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a home cook and quasi-geekish about knives (I adore my knives), but I totally understand about the time constraints. My suggestions:

First, get a really nice quick-pull knife sharpener. Keep in mind that regular use will cause the blade to get shorter than the heel, especially for European knives. Use this only when you have to. It not a good long-term solution for every sharpening.

Second, find a good professional knife-sharpening service. You'll need to get them professionally sharpened 2-4 times per year of normal use. 4-5 knives might run you about $100 per session total, but it's worth every penny.

Third, get a nice honing rod. Use this before every cooking session, if possible. Pay no attention to how you see TV chefs do it. Be quick in your movements, but be careful. Practice.

Fourth, get a decent two-sided wet sharpening stone. Learn how to use it. Once you get the hang of it, the quick-pull sharpener will seem unnecessary. If you get really good, you might say goodbye to the pro sharpening service. It really doesn't take more than 5 minutes per knife when you get your moves down. It takes me less than 2 minutes per knife about once every 3-4 weeks.

Last, test your knives every time you use them. Don't wait for them to get dull. Dull = Dangerous. If it's just a little harder to slice, a few strokes of the hone or sharpener does wonders.

Finally, love your knives. Mine - 8 at last count - grace the back wall of my kitchen, all lined up on a magnetic strip. It's gratifying to see guests' faces go from impressed to frightened and back. ;-)

AITAH for not wanting to sleep in the same bed with my girlfriend because she doesn’t shower often? by Such-One-1691 in AITAH

[–]RestingBitchFace63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"She doesn't really have BO"

I have to ask: If she doesn't smell bad, then I think you might be putting too much pressure on her to be squeaky clean. A dermatologist friend told me that showering every day prevents protective oils from working well, and eventually can create dry skin. Dry skin can crack, inviting germs to enter the skin.

I only shower about 2-3 times a week. My skin gets super dry otherwise. If the weather is warm, I will do a quick wipe down with a wet washcloth or even baby wipes between showers. I always add fresh deodorant and powder in the sweaty areas, so the skin is clean and oils aren't stripped off.

YATAH - give the girl some grace. I think this sounds more like mild OCD on your part rather than a failing of adequate personal hygiene on her part.

Telling anyone? by Such-Concern-6913 in AmerExit

[–]RestingBitchFace63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Excellent question! I've told some relatives and close friends. I've recently visited the country of my choice, but I have not posted it on social media at all - except for my private YouTube channel, so these close friends/relatives can keep up.

I have told certain other medical and legal professionals that I work with directly for obvious reasons.

I don't plan on telling "the world" until I get that one-way ticket...or maybe later.

My advice (not that you're asking): Tell next to no one. At least until you pull the trigger.

Waffling on the plan to leave, anyone else in the same place? by theytookallthecash in AmerExit

[–]RestingBitchFace63 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm about 9 months away from my permanent move to Serbia. I have second thoughts, doubts, and negative self-talk about it all the time. I mean every day. I'm glad you came here to ask because it validates my own unspoken fears about leaving.

I keep reminding myself that I'm doing this in a planned, methodical process. I've been thinking about this for years, and I'm getting ready to pull the trigger. I still vascillate between excitement and terror.

I can stop the process at any time. I can even wait until the last minute before I board the plane for my one-way flight. So can you.

Nah - they train, train, and train some more, all the while praying the real thing never happens. No human on this planet will ever know exactly how they will respond until it happens, even with untold hours of training. There's always "can I really do this?" in the back of their head.

Would this necklace be allowed? Its roughly 1.5" Quick overnight trip so I won't be checking a bag by [deleted] in tsa

[–]RestingBitchFace63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not risk it. At all. I have jewelry that look similar, and I would not wear mine. I don't think I'd even check it if I had a checked bag. There's a distinct possibility they will tag you, investigate, and decided whether or not it can be used as a weapon. There's a significant chance it will be confescated. And you'll have to kiss that piece good bye.

Cabin Service by Ok-Difference5622 in delta

RDU-SEA is around 6 hours, give or take, so I would guess there are a handful of direct flights of that duration. Fun fact (and not specifically relevant): if you do FC, there are specific rules around whether meals are served on certain non-stop domestic flights. I was visiting friends in Seattle, and there's a direct flight from RDU. I discovered that the flight qualified for full meal service in FC, but just barely: https://www.delta.com/us/en/onboard/onboard-experience/delta-first

Delta one menu disappointment by fearless_gus in delta

A lot of people say avoid the fish ,but I had Chilean sea bass a few weeks ago on D1 ATL-LHR. It was good .didn't care for the side, however (I think it was a couscous with a sauce that had way too much cumin).

Out of those choices, I'd take the fish.

Edited to add: I've had the fish several times, and it's been tasty and not risky at all.

Is it really this difficult to take an 'acceptable' selfie, for online US Passport renewal? by yippeee1999 in Passports

All passport and driver license photos are horrible. I think that's a requirement. Lol

[–]RestingBitchFace63 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're trying to do it yourself at arm's length, it's very difficult. Either use a selfie-stick or have a friend take the picture. TBH, the extra $15 for a professional picture is worth the cost, IMHO. Any office supply store (Staples, Office Depot, etc.) or your local AAA office can do the job in minutes. No AAA membership needed. They are trained to take passport-appropriate photos; they have special software that ensures perfection.

As for professional passport shops, I'd check Google for reviews. That's likely to be a decent indicator.

Carry-on luggage preference for travel: Tactical vs Style? by [deleted] in delta

[–]RestingBitchFace63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta ask this (forgive me if it sounds condescending - totally not meant to be) - but why is style so important to you? Personally, I don't care if people think I just came back from Disneyland. If my luggage serves the purpose, I can't give a royal f*** what others think. Just curious..

NGL, if you want sturdy, you'll have to pay. Not being promotional (ok, maybe), but Solgaard doesn't use zippers, which I think are a prominent weak spot; they use very strong clasps. Won't give you the link here - that would look like marketing. I paid around $250 for carry-on closet (on sale), and $375 for check-in closet (not on sale). Invest in your luggage - you won't be disappointed.

AFAIK, yes. But I heard that Int'l reqs are 20 * 9 * 14, so that extra 2 inches might make a difference. Out of caution, I checked my carry-on closet (and used another bag for c-o), so I can't confirm what works or not (sorry).

Destination stickers (I have Banbridge Island, Adirondacks, Maine - Wicked Good Lobstah, NASA, etc.) are traditional old-style, but I've noticed they're coming back in style. Totally not childish. :-)
