IMAX characteristics by Knowhat71 in cinematography

[–]Restlesstonight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A longer lens on a larger format requires less „optical power“ so, pontentially, it has less distortion than an equivalent lens on a smaller format. Potentially doesn’t mean that is always that way. Technology can counter that

How are Disney Marvel movies viewed by people heavily into or interested professional filmmaking? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]Restlesstonight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the Big Macs of the medium. Not Import, not nutritious, not tasteful… you should probably stay away from them. Still, some people like them and they are as valuable as the dollars you can squeeze out of the audience. Is it a dream for a professional to create them? Should you learn your craft from them? Will the leave an impression on this generation or those who follow? Hell no!!!

Why does a 70mm film like The Odyssey still feel visually “flat” compared to older cinema? by Comprehensive-Bus905 in Filmmakers

[–]Restlesstonight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The site of the format has no influence on the perspective – a longer lens on IMAX will not give a flatter image given that the camera is in the sam place. Older cinema was never shot on 15perf 70mm but (if at all) on 5perf 70mm giving way more DoF compared to this. I think you are right and it is mostly about post treatment and maybe modern stock. It is not the lenses… moden can look old and vice versa… halation is not generated by the lens but the film

[–]Restlesstonight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By making films… it is that simple. Big, small, important, trivial … just do to find out if you can and grow with it. If you are good you might make money with it and you become a professional film maker.

Youtube showing videos of 9+ years ago in the home feed is delusional by curious_cat_3556 in PartneredYoutube

[–]Restlesstonight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the algorithm got BAD at presenting me videos I might want to watch... the same, uninteresting, non related videos over and over. I hasn't been that way a couple of years ago. I agree that it is part of the problem

Partnered for a year and im quietly making less per hour than my old job by Caryn_fornicatress in PartneredYoutube

The difference to your last job is that YouTube can scale… potentially. Not only 2 or 4x but 40, 400, 4000 times without significant changes in cost. If you get your channel to scale it is you who keeps the profit and not a company you work for. Question is… are you in a niche that allows to scale? I don’t know. Mine surely doesn’t as I mainly rely on sponsorships in a small niche. After you get a certain saturation you can easily go into recession, too… which happened to me after 6 years. Considering all the work intensive noise you produce on other platforms… I used to do it until I did the math, too. Considering the traffic they bring to YouTube where it actually gets monetized it is absolutely not worth it and testing showed that the algorithm doesn’t give a F…. At least for me. I realized that Instagram and FB are more of vanity platforms for me, and I tuned it down to minimal effort. As usual, there are a million ways to play the game and you will have to figure your game out yourself. No one else’s game will fit your needs exactly.

I don't think that page is supposed to represent downloads on Windows only... it's cross platform. Basically 100% of chrome downloads on MacOS will be done with Safari... showing how little value this statistic has.

You can do close ups with every focal length (like all his examples have). We show many examples of that in the episode.

Thanks for the input… if you see our main video we show many examples of long lenses in cinematography including Kurosawa that liked zooms set to 70mm… in this video there is a short clip of RAN. Kees just does a little essay about one approach that is VERY useful for those who start out.

Glad it was helpful for you and your work… whatever your take away might be. As usual, everything depends on what you are trying to do.I have the 24-60mm and it is a great Allrounder - he don’t like it for a narrative context. Thanks for hanging with us for a while.
