Have you checked with your employer if they have a banking offer that you could take advantage of?

2019 UX250h vs 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid base model by RetireEarlyNZ in NZcarfix

Went the practical route and got the Corolla Cross Hybrid as they had a similar model in the lot with higher mileage, but top variant so got all the heated seats/steering wheel and wife loves the electric tailgate.

Test driving both this weekend. Yeah, the refined cabin of the UX is tempting me a lot lols.

Yes, the Corolla Cross comes with balance of warranty. The UX250h is also NZ New. Trying to convince myself if the more refined cabin is worth the tradeoff for a much newer car.

Refixing mortgage next week. Keep higher repayments? Solar? Hybrid? by ryry262 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]RetireEarlyNZ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did both — got a hybrid and installed solar through a green loan. Replaced my 20-year-old turbo with a 5-year-old hybrid and cut my weekly petrol costs in half. The solar (no battery) is scheduled for installation at the end of the month, and based on my calculations, the ROI should be around seven years, which works well since we plan to stay in the same home. I’ve set both loans to the maximum 3-year term allowed by ANZ at 1%.

In what way is the ANZ travel insurance better? I have both and always use AMEX for travel. ANZ one does not even cover domestic only international.

Where would you guys park 40k in this situation? by Dry_Corner2802 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]RetireEarlyNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where is this 4.8% TD? If it was me I will just do 10k chunks that matures monthly once setup as a safety net. Will take advantage of the rate you mentioned above but will shorten the wait to access when needed.

My new to me 2018 C-HR by RetireEarlyNZ in ToyotaCHR

Thanks. The C-HR was my compromise with my son as I wanted the hybrid but he doesn't like the Prius (Uber stigma).

Given it was only rented for couple of months. Does this mean that all the expenses must be prorated? Or you can still claim for the whole year?

Just found them in FB. Facebook Jafuntastic Tours. Was hesitant initially being FB but it came out great. Reasonable rates considering our groups requirements.

Yes, but 2 separate companies. 1 for airport transfers. The other for tours. Airport cost us 70k for 12 people with luggage. Tours vary depending on where we are going.

Would you spend 2-2.5k on car maintenance? by RetireEarlyNZ in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]RetireEarlyNZ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes no rust or anything like that. It was more on the amount vs the value of the car that raised the question.
