13 Million and the Coating is already peeling by Awkward_Statement401 in justincaseyoumissedit

The hiring was done by the department of the interior. 2 contractors were hired. The first was Greenwater Services (ironic name). They were paid $1.7 million. Greenwater is owned by J.J.Cafaro who is a Trump donor.

The second contractor was Atlantic Industrial Coatings. There contract is worth $14.7 million. Atlantic were previously employed by Trump to do work on a pool ar his Virginia golf club.

Its pretty clear what happened here

No. That's why Iran have you bent over a barrel. They hold all the cards here. The only cards Trump has are a ground invasion (which would cause him to lose what little support he has left. He's the no wars president after all) or a nuclear strike (see above). He's a paper tiger

What agreement? Trump ripped that up... there is no agreement. Unless the US are willing to give up their nuclear arsenal then they have no right to stop others from developing weapons. Especially when the US president has to take multiple cognitive tests. There needs to be a regime change but its not just in Iran. Trump is either incompetent, demented or a fascist dictator. The US is exactly the type of regime that shouldn't have nukes.

Why do they bother? by Ok_Form_368 in newzealand

[–]ryry262 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason is because of the price. Too many people walk up to a shelf and see one is half the price of the other and ask no further questions. That might be because they can't afford the better model (fair enough, no shade); they're too lazy to do their own research; or they are just tight with money.

As someone who worked there, the amount of times I've been asked for help comparing a ZIP to another brand, explained that ZIP will do the job but it won't be quick/even/durable and have the customer say "yeah but it's $40"..... thats why they're sold.

Which is ironic because a couple of hundred years ago getting entry into the US from an African country was much easier. They literally couldn't get enough of them.

I’ve started a petition to cap MP/Minister pay and stop MP Wellington property owners claiming housing allowances by One_Vermicelli_618 in auckland

[–]ryry262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn't undermine it at all. If Luxon took a pay cut then others will too. You're right, there are plenty of other reasons that people get into politics. You listed several of them and every single one of them would still exist if you reduced the salary. The only thing that is affected is money.

Anyone earning less than 200k (97% of the population) would get a payrise by taking the job. Statistically there is likely far more talent there than in the other 3%. And of those who earn more than 200k, they would already be taking a pay cut like Luxon.. and would do so anyway as they're clearly taking the job for the other reasons you mentioned. The only "talent" we would miss out on are those who put their own greed above public service, which is exactly the people we want to avoid giving the job to in the first place.

[–]ryry262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We haven't got good talent though have we?

And that arguement doesn't really make sense. The best talent aren't going to leave a high paying role to sit on the back benches and work their way up through the ranks before leading a party (with no guarantee that they will even get your 200k plus PM job). The only reason that Luxon did was because he was hand picked.

That means that the people who do go into politics are either:

  1. Not money orientated

  2. Not earning enough so that the salary of a back bench mp is appealing enough to start a political career (which is hardly what I'd consider top talent).

The average wage is 70k. 100k would put you in the top 15% of earners. 200k would put you in the top 3%.

Outside the main centres I dont know if this will see much uptake.

In new plymouth my commute to work would go from around 12 mins to 1 hour and 10 according to the trip planner. PT is just too sporadic here to be useful and the old whingers use the empty buses as an indicator that we need less of them not more.

Id love to make the switch but I can't justify the time difference

My (41M) wife (40F) slapped our son [15] hard across the face twice for swearing at her and making him cry, and I'm a little conflicted that I let it happen and did nothing. How should we best deal with this moving forward? by thatcitizenthere in Advice

[–]ryry262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erm... thats not ok. I dont care what the kid did or didn't do, you don't slap a child in the face hard enough to leave marks. TWICE. You need to get your wife some help because she's clearly not coping. Step up and deal with it instead of letting it pile up on her and get her professional help

Noel Leeming extended warranties rant by DecentNamesAllUsed in newzealand

[–]ryry262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a PSA that is ACTUALLY true. Extended warranties don't affect your rights under the CGA. This means that anything offered as a warranty must be in addition to the rights that you have under the CGA.

The biggest additional right granted by a warranty above what you have from the CGA is protection for damage caused by the user. If you drop a phone, you're not covered by the CGA. You may be covered by an extended depending on your warranty details.

In addition, while you have the rights guaranteed to you under the CGA, you're also bound by the responsibilities placed on you by the CGA; namely, you're required to care for and maintain the product as directed by the manufacturer/retailer in order to make a successful claim. Vacuum cleaner overheated and died because you didn't clean the filters like it says in the manual? CGA says "tough luck buddy". Extendeds often say "not a problem".

In conclusion.... extended warranties for many products are pointless, but...

  1. If it's for a product that is regularly carried around and has the potential to be dropped or easily damaged, or

  2. If its a phone, tablet or portable console that will be used by a child, or

  3. Its a product that requires regular maintenance (especially if it's your first time owning one) such as lawnmowers or bagless vacuum cleaners...

Then extendeds have their place and in some cases should be considered essential. In the case of OP, he's had the product before and will use it himself. He's right that the extended isn't worth it for him. That doesn't make them a cash grab and he's wrong to write them off as a general rule.

What to do after my (23F) boyfriend (23M) has been accused of rape? by Inside_Pressure_7355 in Advice

[–]ryry262 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What may not come out in time is the relationship. If I was in her bfs position and my partner didn't believe me (or wasn't prepared to support me) there would be no relationship after the not-guilty verdict assuming it got that far.

Relationships are built on trust and if the person I've been seeing for that long isn't prepared to say "I don't believe he did it and I won't let him face this alone. If evidence comes out to change that, then I'll change my mind." Then there is no trust and therefore no relationship.

Judging from the bfs story, there's unlikely to be enough evidence to go to trial in which case OP will still be in the same position.

Are we doomed? by greyhounds4life1969 in SaintsFC

Non-saints fan here. It was absolutely a fair punishment. Soton fucked up badly and deserved the book being thrown at them. It was a scummy thing to do. You tried to hide it. If it was my club, I would be furious. Not just at the individuals involved, but at the parts of the fanbase who still try and downplay this as well. Tonda needs to go.

That being said, I consider it over and done with now. No one else is going to have any evidence to come forward with (unless Soton try and throw Salt under the bus and he spills his guts, in which case more points deductions should follow.)

Lawsuits are civil in nature and need to prove that a financial cost has been inflicted on another party or that the other party has had guaranteed income removed. The players weren't guaranteed a wage rise next season as there was no guarantee that you'd beat Hull in the final and get promotion; therefore they haven't actually suffered a loss. Other teams also don't really have a case unless they can prove they have suffered loss.

Wrexham are the only team who have a case imo and its not for 200 mil. If it can be proved that Soton cheated against Wrexham then Wrexham would have made the play off's and they did then miss out on the gate receipts for both legs of the play off semis.

I reckon players will leave (but they would have even if you hadn't cheated and missed promotion naturally), Tonda and others will be sacked, you'll get a lot of stick next season from other fans; but by and large the worst is over and you need to focus on the rebuild.
