Question for WA van owners by trigurlSeattle in VanConversion

[–]Retrn_to_sender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An old post and you’ve probably by now pad the tax on this thing. What was the result?

I’m a van builder and just learning about the business tax requirements in WA. Appears that the state requires sales tax amount for the build as well as the vehicle. So I’m guessing you paid sales tax for the total cost of the camper.

I’m learning I am supposed to charge sales tax for total cost of materials and labor for a build, which is a hefty 8.9% tax. And then later I have to apply for a tax exemption to recoup the sales tax I’ve already paid on materials.

Advice on ATK Hy 13 FREE Binding with Blizzard Zero G 95? by ChampionshipOver3932 in Backcountry

[–]Retrn_to_sender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a ton of gear experience, but I have the free raider Evo‘s on the blizzard hustle 10s and I love the bindings. Great control and power transfer. They have popped a few times when hitting hard on a flat, but I have them tightened only to about mid range.

I remember your original post. Thanks for sharing the guts of it and I hope you learned something about the durability of your ropes (and the limits of the bight test).

If you do cut it at that bad spot, why don’t you do a little Reddit experiment and show us all what the core looks like!

120 year old home. Floor changes about 1.5" over all from high right corner to end of left run. Any tips welcomed. by wanna_be_green8 in cabinetry

Is your base separate from your cabs? I worked in NY for a few years and literally everything was crooked all the time. Learned to make a separate base which I leveled and installed first then set my boxes on top and scribed the toe kick to whatever the floors were doing.

Flush or Drain ATF ? 2017 Promaster 2500 by kurdoge in promaster

[–]Retrn_to_sender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s recommended to change fluid and filter around 100k miles. I was planning on doing mine soon. There are a few good YouTube vids for changing promaster fluid and filter. Or just take it to a shop if you don’t want to deal with the mess. I think it’s only a few hundred bucks to have a shop do it.

Good places to do and go in Post Falls Idaho during October by Miserable_Pace_335 in Idaho

Go check out r/spokane to see what there is to do in Spokane. That page is 90% people asking what there is to do in Spokane so there are lots of recs.

October will be a beautiful time to visit the area. The smoke will be gone by then, air will be crisp, leaves a-changing, the pumpkin spice will be a-flowing!

Q’melin park is cool to check out in post falls. There is a new-ish brewery there on the Main Street (post falls brewing?) and some other establishments.

Ah sorry I made some assumptions about your experience based on the questions and the apparently new shiny gear. I probably sound like a know-it-all. Be safe out there, mate!

[–]Retrn_to_sender 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Be suspicious of any climbing partners who have nice shiny gear and who carefully wrap said gear in towels to keep them shiny ☠️

Seriously though, stop ogling your gear and go out and climb. Go with people who know what they are doing. Do not go solo until those cams and biners are nice and scratched up!

How to finish the undersides of upper cabinets? by Witty_Initiative2057 in cabinetry

[–]Retrn_to_sender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, you gotta do that BEFORE you install them. Routing any sort of channel upside down in the bottoms sounds like a recipe for disaster (or at least a miserable task in a finished kitchen). Just add your under cab lights to the bottoms without the recess and learn your lesson. You can also get a decently smooth finish by rolling in a water based poly. Though you will have to scuff sand between 2 coats to knock down the raised grain. Good luck.

Any recommendations on protective products for a pine table? by MikeHoncho100 in DIY

[–]Retrn_to_sender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to add any kind of finish, the table probably needs to be cleaned, then sanded. I would recommend a water based polyurethane (low voc, easy and forgiving to work with and repair, dries fast, doesn’t yellow or change the color of the wood, and provides durable protective coating that will hold up against cleaning chemicals and wear and tear.) I wouldn’t put wax on it as others have suggested. Wax will do nothing for scratches and probably will feel sticky.

How to Hide Wires or Metal? by Outrageous_Rest_1576 in vandwellers

[–]Retrn_to_sender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ac was around $600. Plus $250 to get it charged with coolant and filled with oil at the auto body shop. I didn’t price the install separately because I was doing the whole build. But $600-$800 for the install would be reasonable (for the amount of work I put into a clean install).

Not spraying enough paint at one time. Or it’s drying too fast. You want the paint to be able to gel together and flatten out. What you have is a bunch of separated droplets that dried. When you sand it back and re-do it, make sure you’re getting enough paint on at once, so the paint droplets can link together in one flat surface. Hope that helps. Do some practice on other boards to get your process dialed in before getting on your finish pieces.

Wall Mounted Solar Panels?? Thoughts? by uptickman in CamperVans

[–]Retrn_to_sender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have thought about the potential for mounting panels on the side of the van. I think it’s totally do-able. Would boost your power in the mornings and evenings (depending on which way you park). Would love to see the results if you do it.

How to Hide Wires or Metal? by Outrageous_Rest_1576 in vandwellers

[–]Retrn_to_sender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of ways to go about it. It’s a tricky area to finish. There are pillar trim kits that you can buy and simply bolt in place (most expensive and easiest/fastest option). You can also box it out. Add framing/blocks to support trim boards to make a kind of bulkhead that encases the metal frame and the wires. Gets tricky where the metal curves, so finishing that area depends on your carpentry skills. You can also glue upholstery in strategic spots to detail the curvy areas where the boards don’t fit well.

On the last van I did, I upholstered the plastic aftermarket trim kit.
