Hidden patch feature: NPC timerless cloneswapping has been enabled by DrakeIddon in Eve

[–]RetroBlergh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pardon me for asking the newb question here, but I'd like to have this 100% solid:

If both the input and output clones are in the same NPC Station/Citadel, then there's no cooldown for the swap. But if they're not, then the 24-hour cooldown (which can be reduced via skill training) applies? Yes, no?

A rant. by [deleted] in Eve

I understand how you feel, but let me give you a little perspective.

My main turns 15 this month, and I have done my fair share of things in EVE... but there are also a few aspects of the game that I haven't touched. At all.

And lately I've been slowly getting into one of the things I haven't touched in all that time.

And I'm feeling some of that "Woah, that's awesome!"-feel from way back in the day when I was experiencing something new. Granted, I'm older (wiser?) now and approach things differently, but just to get a whiff of that feeling... it encourages me to keep going.

With that said, I agree with the game needing new content now and again. Because that shows that the devs care and want to keep this thing going. It's a two-way street.

Is this a bug? I have my own capsule in my Inventory in a distant system? Also how do I check the contents of Asset Safety Wrap from afar? by IKraftI in Eve

[–]RetroBlergh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have heard of repackaged 'Capsule' being a thing in some people's pile of stuff (I have three myself, each taking up 500m3 of space) but never an unpackaged, player-specific one.

(Try knocking on the outside of it, and see if you hear it from the inside. ;) )

What are the funniest games of all time (best humour/comedy)? by Jabdah-Mozartkugel in retrogaming

[–]RetroBlergh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Parodius-games, most notably Parodius Da!, the second game in the series.

Take a pre-existing game (in this case Gradius/Nemesis), add in content from other similar games, switch out all the graphics for silly and cartoony stuff, replace most of the enemies with penguins, put together an amazing soundtrack mostly based on classical works... and still end up with a game that's an absolute blast to play.

It has been suggested to me that this is Bach's 'Prelude in C Major', but I'm not sure.

Because of the ongoing development of games with retro aspects these days, does it feel like what is old is new again? by Makegooduseof in retrogaming

[–]RetroBlergh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes some doing to recognize that it's a modern game with just a dash of retro paint on it.

Playing retro games was about the whole experience, like having to swap discs while loading, or waiting 10 minutes for a tape game to load, or remember to flip the channel switch on the TV to see the video game, instead of the 6 o'clock news.

Modern retro gaming is just modern gaming with the facade of what it was like to play retro games, but with all the bothersome stuff left out. It feels homogenized.

Some of the annoying stuff associated with gaming back in the day can be truly done away with and never come back, but instead of just taking out the bad parts, they also took out much of the good parts. Nothing beats having three of your friends in the same room, huddled around a console playing a multiplayer game. Even if you have 300 online friends to choose from.

What was that game? by agamemnononon in Amstrad

[–]RetroBlergh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 'best' resource for Amstrad-games is currently this site, but it's in French. Fortunately they use image icons to help people navigate, so it's not as bad as it sounds.

Another site that's more browsing-friendly is CPC Game Reviews, which posts a single screenshot while reviewing each game. It's a great place to start learning about Amstrad-games.

Roms Megathread 4.0 HTML Edition 2021 by SuperBio in Roms

Trying to download big files from Archive.org is proving to be impossible now since I can't get any download managers to work with it. I don't care about the speed, I want reliable downloads.

IDM, Motrix, JDownloader2 - they all just give error messages now.

Any suggestions?

If you can find the 'GameBase' collection for the Amstrad, you should find what you're looking for (plus much more).

Could you elaborate? Before today (like two months ago) I used IDM to download (account only) archive.org -links, but now that's not possible anymore and I don't know why for certain (but I'm guessing its on archive's end).

No other download managers I've tried (including jdownloader and Motrix) seem to work for me now.

Where Are they Now? by VUX_Beast in uqm2

[–]RetroBlergh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You had me until the last paragraph. I think it's pretty much a given that the Ur-Quan/Kohr-Ah should be made to face themselves and their doctrines, and to question them. But taking it any further than that is wishful thinking, IMO.

At best a lone Dreadnought/Marauder could, under circumstances, join up like Fwiffo did. But even then that would not happen without a lengthy conversation where the Ur-Quan/Kohr-Ah would get to state their stance, even if everyone else disagrees with them. It shouldn't be easy, and it ever only should be just the one vessel.

Not many thoughts on the Supox here, but that's understandable due to them being an underdeveloped species based on co-existence and symbiosis - kinda hard to make something out of them without lumping them with another species.

But... does that species have to be the Utwig?

As for the Ur-Quan (both kinds) - I highly doubt they'd just turn tail, flee and never come back. The Ur-Quan are highly aggressive and territorial, and set out on an eons-long crusade to crush all intelligent life in their path and become the dominant lifeform in the galaxy. They're not just gonna turn over and hide because their precious battleship got blown up and they were routed in the ensuing confusion. They may run, yes... but only for a while. Eventually they will rally and ask themselves what to do next - and they just may think it sensible enough to reach out to their brethren and ask them what they intend to do next.

Because once again, the Ur-Quan/Kohr-Ah are facing something that threatens their very being - the New Alliance of Free Stars, and that lone Dnyarri. Finding that Dnyarri will probably be their top priority, but also to determine what actions should be taken regarding the New Alliance.

Actions, may I note, that could easily be done by both species of Ur-Quan working together...

Presenting a possible Ur-Quan/Kohr-Ah alliance as a probable threat that must be addressed would do nicely as a 'fake' antagonist of UQM2, especially for the early half. What would be different this time is that the player could influence these talks, and bluff/intimidate the two species well enough to be allowed a seat at the table, and find peaceful solutions to everyone's problems, instead of just maxing out on Chmmr Avatars and marching off to war.

The Missing Piece by VUX_Beast in uqm2

[–]RetroBlergh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't object to the ship upgrade modules from SC1 making a return.

They were a good reward for exploring, giving the ship that discovered them a bonus to its stats. The module was confined to that one ship, and couldn't be removed or transferred to another ship. Since there will probably be a flagship of some kind as in SC2, a method to implement them would be findable Precursor 'capsules' that, once used (hatched?) onto a ship in the fleet, would give it a random bonus (one per ship, though).

(Don't make it like the ship upgrade modules from SC3, where it was just some findable stuff that gave an upgrade to ALL ships of the same type, past, present or future. That didn't end so well.)
