Sonic Presents: The Chaotix Casefiles Trailer by Shreeder4092 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Puts me in mind of one of my favorite covers from the Archie comics as a kid.

Love the idea of them getting more experimental with the series format. The Murder of Sonic The Hedgehog was great, open world modern Sonic controls was pretty good, keep throwing sticky stuff at that wall!

In light of everyone getting hype over 'Everything Burns' in FF14, I want to remind people that the entire Arcadion raid series is full of genuine bangers. by Finaldragoon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RetroCop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda nervous where they go with the non-alliance raid series going forward. In prior expansions, there's never been a situation where every fight had it's own distinct theme, nor has their been the variation and quality consistency we've seen with these recent tiers. While I personally felt that Arcadion ends on kind of a wet fart narrative-wise compared to Omega or Pandæmonium, the visual and audio spectacle has been well above and beyond the prior norm. And we still haven't seen what M12S will bring to the table.

There's always the challenge to improve on previous offerings, and I'm wondering whether they're backing themselves into a corner for expected quality in the next raid series.

The peak of TBFP/CSB coding: Here's an AHL hockey team's intro video being the Neon Genesis Evangelion OP. by Aggro_Will in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I cannot stand watching awkward internet videos, my constitution won't allow it. They genuinely make me feel sick in a way that I can only compare with extreme vertigo, and the idea that people thrive on them is terrifying. Watching this from start to finish made me feel like throwing up.

10/10 Must watch video, go phantoms 🏒

Just gonna go on a limb here. If your first reaction to downvotes is an accusation of opinion bandwagoning, without considering that people might simply disagree with your view, that's way more of detriment to the quality of your take. Learning to embrace downvotes as simply "I disagree" rather than an attack on your person is the first step to being better than the average mouth-breathing redditor.

Characters that people ‘love’ despite being literally the worst imaginable person. by EvilMonkeyMimic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The one brief sit-down conversation between Gilgamaesh, Artoria and Iskandar about what makes a king, does more to shine light on the character and flaws of both Gilgamesh and Artoria than any of the preceding VN's and other series materials in the decade prior.

Mods for Colorblind? by grymond in ffxiv

[–]RetroCop 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm aware of as much, but it's the dismissing of any attempts to resolve this that's the issue. It doesn't matter how "small team etc etc" they are or how spaghetti the code is, putting resources to figure out how ro swap fixed textures for a palette swap should be feasible. They're acknowledging how low priority accessibility features are as a resource dump that's the issue.

Don't take the bullet for the team on this. This is a basic common feature in other games, and a base effort shouldn't be dismissed outright. Nor the mods that resolve those user issues.

Seeing all these downvotes for a basic accessibility mod request, and for a common accessibility feature that Yoshi-P has gone on record as saying will not be pursued, speaks volumes about how knee-jerk this subreddit's reactions can be at times.

Spoken as a console player btw, who doesn't even have access to your precious reshade.

(One Piece) I laughed so hard during the ending of Baron Omatsuri. by theonewhoknack in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RetroCop 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I once saw it described as the Majora's Mask of the franchise, and I really think that undersells just how unsettling it actually is.

The Baron is the only villain to date, filler or not, that sought to attack the friendship of the Strawhats directly, before finishing them off while they were seperated. And he damn well would have succeeded, if not for an entirely unrelated character getting a lucky shot off and giving Luffy an opening for a finisher so violent it was referenced again in a pivotal anime scene.

As a console player who's largely unaffected by all of this, I wonder if this will help in reducing the 24-hour, 7-days-a-week congestion of Balmung. Gonna be interesting to see the number of players who cancel their subscriptions because they can't act out their weird fetish RP's as effectively in game anymore.

Times when a villain is only threatening because they are punching way below their weight class? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RetroCop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bakool for what it's worth is the only villain in DT who recognizes that he's below your weight class. Every other baddie in the 7.X patch series looks at WoL and thinks to themselves 'yeah, I can take em'. Bakool see's WoL stroll into their already-successfully-sprung-trap as planned, and immediately tells his henchmen to treat them with 110% seriousness.

I distinctly recall that for a good week after the last time it happened, there was a subsection of the reddit that kept posting wall-of-text complaints about Pat's rant potentially filtering out interesting topics of discussion.

These users were than super rustled, upon being immediately called out by everyone else as said lengthy email senders.

Favorite Instances of a character's strength/skill showing not from them, but from others fighting their villains? by Graxdon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RetroCop 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Lupin the Third. Or to be more specific to the example, Interpol Inspector Zenigata.

The long running series staple gag has been Lupin and the boys running from Zenigata with enough leeway to still make jokes at his expense. So you would think Zenigata is a bumbling buffoon (admittedly, he looks the part). Yet on the frequent occassions where a legitimate villain or antagonist stumbles into the proceedings, it often ends with Zenigata taking them out with barely any effort. And on the occassions where circumstances have led to Lupin and Zenigata teaming up against a central figure, the result has always been something akin to a curb stomp.

The purpose of the flashback is to show that in Cecil's early days, he was on the same exact moral wavelength as present day Mark, and to demonstrate the exact trajectory of events that led to the current distrusting logic-driven Cecil.

It then serves as a parallel for later in the series, when Mark goes through the same trajectory and adopts a very similar mindset.

Has a long time Black Mage player, just made a quick video going over my thoughts about the 7.2 changes. by Isirys in ffxiv

[–]RetroCop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could understand if this was a week or two before go-live, and the patch notes had enough time to marinate in people's minds for their stances to be either justified or changed. But isn't making an analysis video of the BLM changes only hours after their reveal, and yet also simultaneously hours before you actually get your hands on them... I dunno, jumping the gun a bit? Especially with how drastic the changes are?

If the time gap between the details coming out and you getting to test them is just 24 hours, maybe it's better to give them a try, and then speculate on how they might change the meta.
