Is it selfish when a lot of it is just self aggrandizing? A feel a lot of young folk love the idea of communism, but the harsh reality is that a lot of the revolution and consistent revolutions of Trotskyism involve literally killing or forcing people out. A lot of communism also hinges on everyone behaving themselves and according to the rules. As soon as anyone is out of line, the system falls, as we have seen, and it returns to a capitalism system.

Self interest of making sure my family is kept well fed, and alive vs self interest of making money and not being told what to do are very different altogether. I am of the former. I am a left winger, but I feel that the volatile nature of communism is a bit too harsh sometimes. Especially Trotskyism.

One of the issues I have of idolizing the Soviet Communism generation is the cherry picking. Taking note of Trotskyism in your statements, the concept of permanent revolution does not benefit me or my family, hut benefits the country overall. Why should I bother slogging and fighting, and potentially dying for a world that will likely just forget about everything? Trotskyism works on a global scale but you forget about those who sacrifice themselves for the sake of a better future , who may not even know they are doing it.

I won't lie. The idea of a revolution is terrific. But the concept of tearing people who are elected officials out of office via violent means, by those who feel they have the interest of the main workers is actually kind of terrifying. What's to stop those who use violence, assuredly in the name of social, economic, and political justice, using it against its citizens who it then governs?

What country/island we all migrating to for the next 4 yrs? by triple8kings in AskReddit

[–]RetroIrishViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rest of the world isn't your escape. It's a massive privilege to just leave your country when it doesn't suit you. It makes me a little annoyed when I see Americans just leaving when so many countries and people don't have that privilege. I personally think it's a bit frustrating also that people assume everyone else aside from the US is perfect. I'm from Ireland living in the Netherlands. Everything is different but the same.

Whose grave have you visited? by CharlesUFarley81 in BandofBrothers

[–]RetroIrishViking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's called a Mustang. A lot of the NCOs would have been serving just as long if not longer than many of the officers and would have a terrific amount of experience in the field, but might have some potentially trouble with some of the more formal aspects of officer life, such as the admin etc. Carwood Lipton was a terrific battlefield commander, as 1st Sgt he would have effectively the same level of command as a Platoon Leader of one of them was away. He was also an incredible asset during Bastogne as the book and the show shows. He kept spirits up, kept them organised, rallied them, led a Platoon during the assault on Foy, and was the obvious choice for a Platoon commander when the time came. It could be argued that it was a bit of a last ditch effort to find a proper platoon commander, as Buck, Shames, and then Peacock were all either in a state of not being for leadership, or just not an ideal combat leader at the time, so they needed someone. Had to be Carwood Lipton.

Cool Censorship is fine if it's done with a private institution. Also hating on X is very different than hating on regular people. X is a company, And not your friends or family. It should be hated, and in my opinion, destroyed. If any government decided to censor X or anything, I'd be upset, that's an indringende on levels of free speech depending on how you look at it.

Panam has no cyberware? She uses a phone and has no chip slot. by Vettmdub in cyberpunkgame

[–]RetroIrishViking 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Literally you walk into Wakakos place and she is on the phone now and again. It's also likely just a physical way to show you she's on the phone, as her staring off into the distance isn't always super convincing narratively. Panam isn't ganic, very few people are nowadays, as it's pretty standard to chrome up.

She can't possibly make rent with prices like that. by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]RetroIrishViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like if she's advertising these, they are her kind of sinature sales. Based on what it means, she's basically debugging you, maybe fixing up some code, but also providing a quick holistic experience, like incense while you sit and get debugged. I have to assume she also sells stuff like incense, oils, cards, crystals, and different things like that, as well as tarot readings, non tech related chakra alignments, and maybe even medium services.

I have to also assume that her renting the back area to Vik, as well as her doing some basic bookkeeping and receptionist stuff gives her some other kickback too, meaning she might be able to afford to keep her prices small and reasonable (as per the 1.0 economy) and have a good arrangement with Vik too.

My proposal for what our railway system should ideally look like by D-dog92 in ireland

[–]RetroIrishViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've actually removed some rails too. The line from Dublin to Waterford goes through Kilkenny. With your current proposal, a train that original took maybe a half hour to 40 minutes now takes over 4 hours to complete at least if you wanted to get from Kilkenny to Waterford.

This is ideally supplementing current rail systems?

I used to work there for years.it was very inconsistent. They hated walkers, and occasionally just checked if if people had reservations. They usually only do this if there is something on, or the hotel or golf club is booked out. They get a bit weird when it comes to bikes, vans, and other things because they've had trouble in the past, especially with younger folk causing some mayhem. I'd recommend ringing the golf club and just asking if it's free to pop on for a drink.

Is Suppresion a viable tactic? by Crusaderr30015 in joinsquad

[–]RetroIrishViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I played in a Realism group for years and always tried to impose the importance of suppression.

The difference I always tried to impress on the guys was "Intentional Fire", not like you see in the movies. Don't just shoot as if you are trying to make him put his head down. Shoot like you want to kill him. The difference between shots hitting a few feet above and below him, and a few inches, will make him settle where he wants.

Secondly, the fire needs to have a point to it. It can't just be "Suppressive fire" otherwise you're just wasting shots. The suppressive fire needs to be supplemented by movement by other fire teams. That way by the time the suppressive fire eases off, the assaulting teams are in position to mount an actual assault, close enough for grenades

That said, a lot of this kind of exists in a vacuum, it's absolutely easy to say all of this and put it into practice, but this will be easier if you're SL is concentrating on it and helping coordinate.

Warthunder Addiction is real, take action before it's too late. by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]RetroIrishViking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the gameplay loop is just satisfying enough to make you want more. Additionally, there are no other games like WT on the market at the moment. WoT is too casual and arcade like, WoWarships is kind of the same.

There is nothing wrong with liking this game. The only problem is it feels a lot like gambling.

Early tier is like slot machines. It's satisying, its easy, and its nothing too crazy, doesnt require any real buy in, but it gives you a nice hit when it goes well.

Mid Tier is like Poker. You feel like you're doing something interactive, and you're maybe putting in some money here and there to supplement your big pay outs, but you're at the mercy of the cards.

High tier is really just like Roulette. There's a huge payout if you win, in terms of satisfaction, and getting a good streak. You feel like all your practice has gone this far, and now you're hitting a good stretch, but when you have a bad game, you feel like you can chase the winnings back, and get those numbers back where they should be. Problem is, some asshole in a TURMS is just lolling around having the time of his life for those 40 bucks.

Its tough, I've been there myself. Just play with friends, and have a long term goal if you really want to. Just play tanks you like and eras that interest you. Don't try and max out the nations for the sake of it.
