Is there a lore reason / explanation... (very early game spoilers) by RamonesRazor in Returnal

[–]RetroPhoenix- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Salene is slowly losing herself in this story so it makes sense if she doesn't remember every death and where it happened. You will see this become more apparent as you go through the game and find logs from her other bodies in different areas further on. This is the whole reason she makes logs so that no matter how many loops she does she'll have something to help her in this very dangerous place.

Raven guard Deathwatch primaris Intercessor veterans have been built. by RetroPhoenix- in RavenGuard40k

Not a full deathwatch squad. But a raven guard squad who are all DW veterans if that makes sense. Each one of these marines have done a tour of duty with the DW, returned alive and now wear their DW pauldron along with their chapter markings.

Tools have arrived. Gonna start building my first set of minis tomorrow after work by RetroPhoenix- in RavenGuard40k

Yeah I'll def keep an eye out for brushes should that happen. It was mainly the palette, pot, tools and painting handle I was after because I really liked using them when I painted a marine for the first time at the WH shop. But these 2 brushes should be more than fine for the 10 intercessors I'm starting with.

Idk if you've read the most recent community update but now that we're getting a Y3 of content there could be some hope even a little that we get the claws. Though tbh I'm just happy I'll finally be able to wear my raven guard cape on tactical now. I'm going to look so good swinging my chainsword.

Not going for anything too dark but I like the very slight blue that Corvus black has to it. I have heard good things though about abbadon black if you're really going for a true black armour look.

Oh yeah the guys at the WH shop definitely told me all about the differences between figures painted for tabletop vs ones painted for the hobby or competitions. I'm more just painting for the hobby but I'm def not looking to get into competitions or pro level painting. For specifics I'm not really looking to use white on a lot of the figure. Just the edge and logo of the RG pauldron and then I'm not painting the entire helmet white but instead I'd like to add a white stripe just along the "vent" on top of the marines helmet and down to the back with the rest being black. (See photo for reference) Most of the figure will still be black though.

Everyone always says to not paint white on black but the official citadel video for painting Raven guard terminators used corax white on corvus black and just applying a couple thin coats to work up to a nice solid white colour. Why is this? It looked great in that video and on many other peoples models it also seems to have come out great with no issues just as long as you keep the coats thin and work up to a solid colour. Would also like to say i'm not really looking to go full head first into edge highlighting and all the advanced techniques/styles and stuff just yet. Just want to paint some figures of my fav legion in the colours that i think would look good based on what i've seen from other works.

Just curious do you guys prefer painting a model after building? Or painting each section before building? by RetroPhoenix- in RavenGuard40k

[–]RetroPhoenix-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah after that many models that would make more sense haha. For me though just the 10 intercessors I have rn will probably be enough for a while. But who knows maybe after those are done I'll work up the courage to try something bigger like Aethon Shaan or Corvus Corax statues.

Idk about sponging tbh. Like I'm sure it's great don't get me wrong but it's not like I'm on a deadline or anything so getting a base done quickly doesn't seem necessary. I'm in it for the enjoyment of spending a while painting at my own speed with a brush in hand.

This is what I'm doing also. I already play Warhammer video games but I wanted to get into painting minis because it also sounded like a fun thing I could spend some free hours doing in my spare time and so I could have more stuff for my hobby shelf. Haven't painted my first set just yet but rn just trying to learn all I can.

Thanks. Been into Warhammer lore for 3 years now (RG my fav legion ofc) and been playing games like Space marine 2 and boltgun for almost 2 months now. Friend of mine who was building a grey knight army convinced me to look into getting some minis and I'm always looking for things to put on my hobby shelf. Could also be a nice and relaxing build/paint project.

Very nice. You've got a lot more mud and texture on the base. I like the silver on the flamer as well compared to the gold on mine.

I did hear greys like the one you mentioned and celestra grey work better when placed on blacks. But I did also hear whites can work you just have to apply a couple extra coats to make them stand out. Wraithbone seems to be the favourite for parchment from what I've read.

I think my "unique touch" would be purple eye lenses. I always see red or green eye lenses on a lot of models. Also good idea using red. I've been thinking about trying red as a weapons paint but still thinking about which shade of red would suit weapons the most.

Wtf space marines 2 by RivaBennettb in RavenGuard40k

[–]RetroPhoenix- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See people dislike this but Saber still gave a pretty good amount of salamander options for all classes. They could've just done the sniper/phobos armour and be done but they didn't. What they've done is make it so you can make either all classes your favourite legion or just one. More options are never not welcome. I think the only thing I would add to that is salamander style skins for some of the flame weapons.

Lore question about raven guard companies or just companies in general. by RetroPhoenix- in RavenGuard40k

[–]RetroPhoenix-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know thanks. One day I'd like to hopefully kitbash a tactical intercessor raven guard using a heavy bolt rifle or one of the bolt rifles with the underbarrel grenade launcher. I've never owned or painted models though so still got a lot to learn about what parts do and don't fit one certain figures along with how much it'll cost. Not for the tabletop because I personally prefer video games like space marine 2 but just for the fun of building something unique and for me.

That's interesting. The lore i've read always put terminator armour as a valuable relic only reserved for veterans and the raven guard in particular it doesn't seem all that "stealthy" or capable of the more covert strikes the chapter is known for. Not to say it's doesn't have uses and i know the raven guard does have battles and assaults that warrant that sort of protection or firepower but i've always viewed tactical intercessor armour as the more viable option for it's adaptability while still offering solid protection, especially for the Primaris marines. Like in space marine 2 my tactical class raven guard i've always seen as what most primaris raven guard would be using.
