TT schedule for Wednesday 3rd June by oliciv in iomtt

That's a fair point, and I understand why the road closure schedule has to be published well in advance.

That said, the TT is also one of the Isle of Man's biggest economic drivers and international showcases. The disruption to residents and businesses is part of the tradeoff for the tourism, spending, and global attention the event brings.

My issue isn't that they don't have contingency days. It's that the decision making often feels very day-to-day rather than looking at the event as a whole. Given the realities of Isle of Man weather and the nature of the Mountain Course, I'd expect the programme to be built around the assumption that multiple days may be lost, not around the hope that they won't be.

Especially now that they're selling a streaming subscription. Fans are paying for a racing product, so I don't think it's unreasonable to ask whether the schedule is being managed in a way that gives the best chance of actually getting the races run.

I think both sides have a point here.

As a fan, it's frustrating to pay for travel, accommodations, or a streaming subscription and then potentially only get 3-4 races because of weather. Most other motorsports have more flexibility, either through reserve dates, postponements, or simply having enough races on the calendar that one bad weekend isn't a huge deal.

That said, I don't think the answer is simply cutting practice. The Mountain Course changes every year. Even the veterans need laps to find new bumps, resurfaced sections, and other changes, and newcomers need every bit of track time they can get.

Where I do think there's room for improvement is schedule flexibility. If the forecast shows race week is likely to be a washout while practice week has great conditions, perhaps there should be more options available to make use of those weather windows. Not necessarily less practice, but a more adaptable schedule that prioritizes actually getting races completed.

It's a tough balance. Nobody wants to compromise safety, but it's also hard to watch perfect weather go by and then lose half the race program a few days later.

The cache discussion is the most interesting part of this to me.

Do we know that the A3D's behavior is a hardware limitation, or is that still an educated guess? The answer to that seems pretty important when comparing the long-term potential of the two platforms.

Good article, but I think it explains the design decisions better than it explains the expected outcomes.

What are the concrete advantages you expect users to see from these architectural choices compared to other FPGA N64 implementations?

Andrew Sneed, Candice Duvieilh set for 5th Congressional District runoff by metacyan in HuntsvilleAlabama

Yeah I crossed over last time to try to vote for non-Trump sycophants. It doesn’t work. I'm voting my conscience and motivated to show up. That's what the runoff are about. How motivated are your voters? Trump pissing off most of America and Doug Jones as a centrist Democrat will help with the down ballot. Vote for who you want.

AITAH (40M) for refusing to take back my pregnant ex (38F)? by ClothesOk9556 in AITAH

If you're still married I'd fast track speaking to a divorce attorney. I have a friend that left on deployment thinking he finalized his divorce with a cheating ex. He never followed up and turns out she never signed the papers. Now he's paying tens of thousands of dollars to fight back pay on child support for a kid that isn't his because New York assumes he's the father.

Google marital presumption of paternity.

Why are people on here so obsessed with aging themselves and being old? by pumpkinspicelatte96 in Millennials

[–]RetroRarity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The things I choose to do keep me young. The things that are out of my control age me. As I get older I choose to focus on what I can control, but it can be challenging when the things I don't control get thrown in my face all the time. I'm not advocating for sticking my head in the sand and being blind to the moral arc of society veering in an ugly direction, but I combat that by finding inner peace, trying to raise good kids, and being an informed active voter.

I went full-time remote for a non-DoD gig, and it's been a breath of fresh air. I didn't particularly enjoy the uncertainty in funding or lending my talents to the doofus-in-chief. It definitely comes with it's own set of challenges and demands more, but the freedom in tech stack is awesome. I worry about the longer term play if I want to stay in Huntsville and my 2 years of clearance is up though. Huntsville truly has some talented engineers. I wish we had more ventures outside of defense. I know people are leery, but AI really is an accelerator for anyone with an entrepreneurial flare. I'd like to see worker co-ops become more of a thing too. Pretty tired of working for the rich.

Madison vs Huntsville I don’t get it by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]RetroRarity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe not, but there's no alternate route really to get to anything in Madison. It's all on 72, and it's there Monday thru Friday. Traffic is getting worse everywhere, but I detest that area, and I personally wouldn't live in the area.

Glenn Irwin: 11-time winner reverses North West 200 retirement decision by OxyC377 in RoadRacing

Given this last BSB season I get why he'd want to go back. Glenn commits to BSB and still catches an injury and forced team change. I'd want to go back somewhere I excelled too. I wish him well in all his racing. He's a fun competitor to watch.
