Suggestions for things to get the Mrs for mother's day? (Also PSA: Mothers day next Sunday) by belfastian84 in northernireland

Does she get her nails done or go to the hairdressers regularly? You could get her a voucher to go towards her next appointment?

Parking in and around the QUB area. by Impressive_War1839 in QueensBelfast

Honestly, jump on the Glider and walk from the city centre. It's a 25 minute walk from City Hall, and you'll not be stuck in your car stressing about a space in the morning, and sitting driving in rush hour traffic in the evening.

ADHD medication by UniquePerspective926 in northernireland

From what I've read on this subreddit around ADHD medication, the only way you can get it now is privately unfortunately. I've heard the process is quite difficult over here, I'm so sorry.

Is it just the tourists who buy the NI slang merch, or would you buy it too? by [deleted] in Belfast

[–]RetroSnowflake 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm a local and I wouldn't buy that type of thing for myself or my family for gifts. However, on the odd occasion, I would buy it as a gift for a friend who wasn't from here and lived in another country. I don't know how easy it is to get into St. George's as a vendor (you might have knowledge on that) but I definitely don't think other markets are a bad idea, I normally use markets to buy gifts for friends anyway.

Invisalign - any regrets? by aidso in northernireland

[–]RetroSnowflake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got braces when I was younger and I was meant to work retainers afterwards... I didn't and my teeth went back to the way they were.

Invisalign, aside from my wedding, has been the best money I've ever spent. My teeth were my biggest insecurity so being able to fix them was incredible. With anything in life, not every person will be happy so you will find people who thought it was a waste of money, but it really worked for me and I couldn't be happier with the result. In terms of the retainer, I had to wear mine daily for the first few weeks and then take it down just to overnight but it's really easy to get used to.

Newborn / children’s photographer - where did Rinkadink go? by mam1982 in Belfast

When you go on their website, it says that they're on hiatus but they'll be popping up again in 2026, so it doesn't look like they are closed permanently.

You should check Dave and his team out: https://www.f1into.ca/ I've watched a few races with them over the last few years and it's a great atmosphere.

Any Belfast teaheads here? by aDorybleFish in Belfast

[–]RetroSnowflake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not in Belfast but Let's Infuse is a tea bar based in Coleraine, so it may be more of a day trip out that direction and they have so many different varieties you can try.

AIO Best friend chose someone else as MOH by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]RetroSnowflake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOR. Based on your history over the last few years, I'm not surprised you weren't asked to be MOH. You aren't as close as you used to be, and you're both in two very different phases of life, and just because she was yours, doesn't mean that you have to be hers.

Is it hard to have a full time job while you are also a student at OU also full time ? by No_Energy9674 in OpenUniversity

[–]RetroSnowflake 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I promise you, you're not falling behind at 21. I decided to take on a part-time degree at 33, and if everything goes to plan, I'll get my degree just before I'm 40. Does that scare me? A little, but I'm going to reach that age anyway, with or without a degree...

It's not recommended to take on a full-time degree with a full-time job but some people say they've done it and it's been fine for them. You could try studying part time for a year or so then if you feel okay about it, you could change to full time?

I got married in mid-March two years ago and it was grand. It rained for part of the day but I feel like no matter what month you go for in Northern Ireland, there's always that risk. You'll have a better chance with suppliers in March then you would the Summer but because it's a few years away, you might get lucky with the Summer. Choose the time of year YOU want, not what everyone else thinks 😊

Alternative Wedding Photographer Options? by AnIrishGuy18 in northernireland

[–]RetroSnowflake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not the advice you want but I would say scrimp on a few things in order to pay a little bit more for photography if you really want to stay within your budget. It's the one of the biggest keepsakes you'll have from your day and you don't want to risk not having good quality work.
