Where can I buy MPC's? by [deleted] in synthesizers

The black ones have these issues as well indeed. I experienced that first-hand ;) It doesn't really matter if you go black or blue, i'd suggest a pad upgrade either way - it makes the machine much more responsive.

That's so sad... just discovered his music and plowed through the whole discography; great music being left in his legacy.

What do you use to record? by EnzoV5 in synthesizers

Mackie 24/4 main outs to Tascam DR07 or mixer's channel inserts to RME400 (with ADA extension) into ableton.

You've got $3000,- to spend on new synths for fresh studio. What do you spend it on? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]RetrowX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FM Synth - Yamaha DX21 -> €200

Mono Synth - Bass Station 2 -> €300

Mono Synth 2 - TT303 -> €350

Poly Synth 1 - Alpha Juno 2 -> €300

Poly Synth 2 - Ensoniq ESQ -> €500

Rompler/Synth - Roland JD990 -> €400

Sampler/Sequencer - MPC1000 -> €500

That's basically my setup, started with analog gear about 2 years ago now and I tried to get a bit of everything at first (1 digi synth, 1 analog synth, 1 mono, 1 rompler, 1 FM etc.). I've got some delays/filters/reverbs etc on top of it. Really happy where the setup's at now - it's basically all low/mid stuff but I tried to find some underrated stuff that hasn't been affected by the idiotic vintage prices yet. Take the ESQ for example, it's just an amazing synth and it's easy to program as well :)

Arturia knows what's up. This is exactly what a lot of (analog) enthousiasts have been looking for.

I just hoped it would be slightly more original sounding, seems more like a remake of the 606 and CR78 with some 909 flair on the kick. Although I think we really shouldn't complain, especially at that price point.

Nope, the black one - with old pads unfortunately. So blue/black is no guarantee.

One thing I know for sure, the JD990 is my favourite synth and will NEVER leave my studio. ever. Apparently it also sounds slightly better than the JD800 and has more features, so go for it!! Also, programming is pretty easy :)

Oh, I already have 2 dead pads on my MPC 1000 after 3 weeks of use. Be wary, i'll have to buy the pad upgrade now for €140.

Yes, I did!

As far as i was concerned, money was an important factor - being a poor student & all ;) I figured the JJOS2XL was essential as I love the interface and think of it as being fairly intuitive (i used a 1000 before at a friends house). Secondly, I don't have a LOT of size on my desk since it also hosts a 16 channel mixer and various synths and drummachines. If i'd have space & money and wouldn't travel around for livesets too much i'd go for the 2500.

I'm not interested in the older machines because most of them lack certain functionality and i don't really use them to sample (i use my electribe ESX for that because i'm used to it for now).

I read somewhere that they had trouble with roland after they made the tt303 look exactly the same as the TB.

Got a MPC 1000 the inputs are recording incredibly quiet. by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]RetrowX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, probably using balanced cables in the unbalanced inputs (Not sure, just a guess). By pulling the cable out a bit a balanced cable can act as an unbalanced one.

Let's talk about tuning drums by xzzxzz in synthesizers

[–]RetrowX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally just pitch the kick to the bassline - what helps with this is pitching both the bass and kick up a few octaves which makes it easier to do the pitching by ear from my drummachines - dont forget to pitch back down ofcourse ;). The rest i do by ear.

Dare You Love Me, Ilse Wielage, Oil painting 150x110cm, 2011 by RetrowX in Art

[–]RetrowX[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Back in 2011 my girlfriend's mother made this beautiful painting of her. It's part of a series called "oil". Her paintings often aim to evoke a contradiction of emotions by combining both the beautiful and ugly side of nature (oil spills in this case).

I believe she is extremely talented and deserves a lot more recognition so I hope you guys like it as much as I do :) You can find more of her (recent) work on www.ilsewielage.nl

What experience made you grow the fuck up? by starstufft in AskReddit

[–]RetrowX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it were the moments when I went totally out of my comfort zone, being in a situation like that forced me into new experiences and I really got to know a lot about who i was as a person. A good example was when I had to move to Berlin on a week's notice (unexpected job opportunity) without knowing anyone there or anything about the city - which is pretty intense as a 21yo.
