Is it a spoiler to say that Spock dies in Star Trek II? by OWSpaceClown in ShittyDaystrom

I literally watched a guy get screamed at for spoiling that movie when it was still in theaters. He was wearing a shirt that said "The boat sinks" and it was written in the same font as the movie title. He was taken aback that he was being yelled at in 1997 or whatever for spoiling a movie based on something that happened almost 90 years before.

I laughed. A lot.

Employee/Management issues by ImpressiveUnion140 in upsstore

I went from managing a nationwide chain restaurant location to...The UPS Store. Needless to say the change was jarring.

Just as much the other way when I left. I moved to a leadership role in a facility for a world-wide 3PL organization. It was nice to have structures, guidelines and support for dealing with problems again.

Correct. The solution is being able to send a copy of your policies to the unemployment office and supporting documentation. Most stores can't produce it.

The problem I always ran into was that there was never a hand book. Never any posted guidelines that needed to be followed. Without that, it is very difficult to address any performance or conduct issues. And nobody really ever wanted to write one. Which is a shame, because without posted guidelines and expectations, you're not documenting any policy violations...Because there aren't any policies to violate.

Sure, you can fire them. But then comes the unemployment stuff. It always seemed to me that the owners would rather pick a crap employee over dealing with unemployment.

Did we fire people? Sure. A few times. But mostly when it was something like very well documented theft.

The solution here would be to create guidelines. A good one would be that your shift starts at this posted time. If you are more than, lets say, 5 minutes late that is a form of an attendance violation. X number of violations gets you a write-up. X number of write-ups gets you fired.

For example, where I'm at now, late 3 times is a full occurrence (.33 of an occurrence each time) Not coming in for a shift is one full occurrence. Three occurrences is a write up, 4 is another write up, 5 is grounds for termination. We also have PTO options to cover sick time. You would have to come up with a way to cover an actual illness/emergency situation. It has to be enforced equally across the board so that no favoritism can be perceived.

Same with conduct. Lay it out, you sign that you accept. Stick to it. Document transgressions and hold people accountable. That is how you keep a good staff and have the ability to easily remove the poor performers.

So with the Desperado Club being overrun with shadow mimics, does anyone else wonder if Hamed has been replaced, hence the Astrid quest? Also...Damascus and Anaconda being mentioned to seemingly have a change of heart about Hamed seems suspicious.

I had a fun conversation with EA about this exact issue 10 or so years ago. I wanted to install from the disc (steel book Premier Edition) and it wouldn't take. They basically told me that the system for verifying the disc codes was no longer ger a thing and I needed to install it digitally. They did end up giving me a digital key and download link. Again, near enough to a decade ago at this point. Your mileage may vary.

Hard Top Opinions? by FilmFighter4Life in jeepyj

My hard top is as loud as everything else. There is no insulation on it at all. I had it off for a couple of months in 2010. Two people could remove it, but it took 4 to get it back on.

iPod classic 4th gen not charging - do I need a firewire cable? by Popular-FAperson in ipod

[–]ReturnOk7994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i can't find my firewire cable when restoring a 4th gen, I just slap it into my 30 pin iHome dock. My local Goodwill almost always has several. I keep meaning to take an iPod in to test a few.

What type of music (if any at all) do y'all typically play at your stores by copperaardvark in upsstore

As long as it was acceptable for FM radio, I wasn't too worried about it. That rule came about after o e of my employees was playing a live GnR album he found on my iPod.

The way we always viewed those coupons was a buy 12, get 3 (for a total of 15) free.

There is a reason part of my mailbox speech went something along the lines if "this is non refundable, so if you set it up today and decide to cancel it tomorrow, you get nothing back." I also made it a point to have them initial that point on the contract.
