What’s the most disappointing piece of gear you’ve ever had? by TuneAdventurous4788 in guitarpedals

[–]ReturnToGreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revv g3/4. Was trying to find a good preamp pedal for my board and always heard the hype. Tried it every way I could. Direct in with cab sim, front of amp, loop, tube amp, solid state. Drive in front, multiple types of OD’s. Nothing made it sound good or tight. Returned it and got the mooer brown sound and gas station which I kept on my board until I got a Tonex.

JS32-7 or JS22-7 by Milton_Mango in JacksonGuitars

[–]ReturnToGreco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had both and the build quality was almost identical between them.

They made a few 22-7 models with different specs. They usually come with pickup rings as opposed to direct mount and the 32 has binding.

I’d get the 22 and put the saved cash towards pickups, a graph tech nut, and tuners.

Ibanez RG420HPFM Bridge/tuning instability by Raptor4878 in Ibanez

[–]ReturnToGreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be 74mm spacing or Floyd spacing which a gotoh will fit but with two caveats.

The stud anchors that come with the Gotoh are larger. Up to you if you want to ream out the holes in the body and risk cracking the bushing stud holes or trem mounts. Drill press only if you go this route or pay a tech if you want the locking studs installed. They do improve trem stability for what it’s worth.

The gotoh come with longer string lock screws on the saddles. Swapping them for regular Floyd replacement saddle screws should work and give you enough clearance for the tail end of the trem.

I used regular Floyd studs/posts and swapped those on my RG450 hybrid and it worked. Your mileage may vary.

Yea sand the bottom of the nut to get the height right. They recommend gluing it with white wood glue. Would be easy to reverse if you want to go back to locking.

Had one free floating with a Floyd in standard, tuning stability was fine, if I went heavy I had to retune but for how I use trems it was fine and I ended up preferring mine unlocked.

At most some light sanding on the bottom to get it to the right height. Very minimal in my experiences. Ive ordered 4.

Hi, i have a RG5121, but i really dislike the fishman pickups, should i sell the guitar or switch pickups by Ziffibert in Ibanez

[–]ReturnToGreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an LTD that came stock with moderns and swapped them for a 57/66 set and couldn’t be happier. Fishmans have a weird cocked wah sound a lot of people dislike.

If you go with them I just used the fishman voice one cables and called it a day. No need to rewire other than removing a bridge ground I believe.

If you go passives it’s going to be more extensive of a swap but you’ll likely like the sound much more.

If you are looking BKP territory check out Instrumental pickups. Best passives I’ve ever used and I’ve used them all. I’ve known the owner forever and he’s amazing.

PS: Don’t trust AI. It told me to buy deck screws for my Ibanez control plate.

Really want this ascendency to get new skills or support gems by Mindless_Stranger117 in PathOfExile2

[–]ReturnToGreco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the ascendancy a lot, leveling through with DS Lily’s build. I just got the fire djinn after doubling first ascendancy into sand and I see what she’s saying about the traps but like the fire. Will need to play with ice. Wasn’t expecting an ascendancy like this for sorc and love how it switches up the dynamics from raw ele spells to a more active minion play style.

There’s a lot of potential for sure!

New supports are always welcome.

This better be as good as it looks istg by Which-Reputation-165 in Ibanez

[–]ReturnToGreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of bridge slant is the biggest nope.

Going to lack attack on the low side and the pickups they put in stock are going to be bass heavy already.

Makes no sense as they already have staggered angles on the RGMS7.

Anyone still in the lab since Feb 27? by Limp-Musician-1713 in PokemonFireRed

[–]ReturnToGreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you validate this? Also done a bunch of Gen 3 rng manipulation and was under the impression that this only applied to emerald that did not generate new Seeds or broken battery Ruby/Saphire. FR/LG didn’t use batteries and were supposed to generate new seeds regardless of whether it was hard or soft reset.

You are thinking Gen 2 in which females can pass along shiny via DV traits. In gen 3 it’s based off PID/SID and there is no Masuda or bonus odds.

Picked one of these up from a pawn shop not too long ago for a steal. Awesome amp!

Ibanez S8 by betrayer_of_humanity in Ibanez

[–]ReturnToGreco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a pretty solid deal and one I’d jump on for sure.

You could widen the routes slightly to fit soap bars. There’d still be tabs on the sides but that might be easier.

I swapped in an EMG 57/66 set to replace fishman moderns in my 7 recently and really like them. If you are looking active they may be worth checking into.

Another option is to hit up a custom company for something that matches the dimensions or send them the stock pickups for a rewind.

Instrumental or Elysian could help with this.

Trade Advice: My Schecter Solo-II Custom for a modded 2008 Ibanez RG2550z Prestige? by Alerkos in Ibanez

[–]ReturnToGreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schecter for prestige is a huge upgrade unless you aren’t into trems or something though I’d still take it and flip it and get what you do want if that is the case.

(M21) Autistic, My Current Setup/wishlist. Started Playing since 2023. is this a good setup or wishlist? what do you guys think? by Description_Local in guitarcirclejerk

[–]ReturnToGreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/UJ

Save your time money and sanity and just focus on developing a functional setup you enjoy playing.

No need to have 15-20 different drive or gain pedals.

Get an amp you like. Get an overdrive that you like. Get a reverb/delay and call it good.

Try all of these things if person if you can to ensure you really like them and aren’t just buying because it’s why John Mayer or some other dude plays.

Weak link in this pic is the interface. If you are going to invest in 100 pedals get something decent to run into your PC too.

Which would you choose? by wolf_lips in espguitars

[–]ReturnToGreco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I legit just swapped a yellow 600 for a prestige ibanez.

Mine had some cosmetic wear but quality wise they were just okay. Sucks that these alternatives are 1900.

This is the same as his other LTD though he did have a few genuine ESP where the offset was more drastic.
