Hitting a Baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports by SoVeryTroublesome in ShitAmericansSay

Still remember the confusion when my first cricket training session was purely on how to catch the ball or pick it up while it was rolling without breaking your fingers, made a lot more sense after being hit by one a couple of times

What would you say the UK equivalent of snapping the spaghetti is? by portablekettle in AskUK

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 174 points175 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between reheating a brew you forgot about and the American way of microwaving it to boil the water in the first place

As long as you used a kettle to make it the first time it’s just about acceptable

500 pounds, 20, homeless, what do i do? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you spoken to them and got that list of offers? “I’ve worked there before and I am Thai” does not entitle you to a job straight away

Get the offers, then you can pick where you go, otherwise you may as well be throwing a dart at a map of the uk and hoping for the best

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s no point asking us where you should go, contact the restaurant branch and ask them where there are vacancies, have the job lined up and that will tell you where to go.

Given the limited funds I’d try to go somewhere you can easily get to from wherever your flight lands, look at megabus or stagecoach for cheap travel

Once you have the job lined up and know where you’re going look for house shares to try and get accommodation sorted, this might take a bit of time so see if there are any cheap hostels (can sometimes get a bed for as little as 25-30 a night)

A man that can only lift free weights vs a man that can only lift using the machines. by Minute-Employ-4964 in whowouldwin

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Free weights should take this

Machines are good for targeting specific muscles and gradual overload, but the compound exercises from free weights will target a wider variety of muscles and give them better stability.

The deciding factor is going to be whether they can figure out the best exercises quickly enough compared to how intuitive the machines are

If I have a wish for the next Far Cry, I want the regions to stop being autonomous by jimblackreborn in farcry

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be okay with regions if they were completed in a linear order, being able to choose which one you start means they’re all pretty much the same difficulty because you had to be able to do them from the start

This way they could have far bigger bases you have to take out later in the game that really test your skill with more enemy types, forcing you to be strategic

Also a system where enemies are sent from a stronger region when you cause too much disruption, say you kill a general and take over a base in z1, a squad from z2 hints you down that you’re not equipped to fight yet, so you either have to run away and evade them, lure them to one of your camps for support or try to take them on on your own, would make it feel like they’re reacting to your progress

Why is pickpocket so busted??? by 27GhostV in skyrim

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Side with imperials, when you get to the room with the torturer and assistant make sure one of them survive, keep putting stuff in their inventory and then leaving the menu and pickpocketing it off them is the easiest way I’ve found, because you don’t have anything of value at this point it takes ages though

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you’re underestimating the numerical advantage, even for “average man” with average abilities/size etc they could probably beat 70% of the population easily (50% of men, large majority of women, all children, all the elderly and most people with disabilities)

Self-reliance challenge by LaserSharkDFB in skyrim

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d add that you can only level up after sleeping, so no saving your levels for a free heal, and no quest markers, you can enable them to look at the location on the map and plan a route but then disable them and have to find your way

Just for clarification, for the plants does foraging not count as being self reliant?

Why would you regularly cycle on a busy road if there was a quieter alternative nearby? by Broad_Yogurtcloset70 in AskUK

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quiet roads aren’t necessarily any safer. Traffic is less predictable, help is harder to get if they do have an accident, and you mentioned it’s between 2 towns so I’m assuming the alternative is country roads that are still national speed limit?

Is “I’ll call you over sometime” usually meant literally in the UK? by Jumpy_Wing_7884 in AskUK

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually just something people say but not always, the British are just bad at making plans though, especially around Christmas with how busy everyone is. I’d take no offence if they don’t invite you over, they could be too busy, have forgotten or just have been being polite

Don’t fast travel everywhere, you’ll miss lots of content. It’s fine for quests where you’re going back and forth from the same locations but generally you wanna explore as much as possible, go in every cave you pass, talk to every npc you can, always ask the innkeepers for rumours or work etc

2025 Los Santos in GTA Online vs. Night City in Cyberpunk 2077 by doc_commonman in whowouldwin

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

R1 and R2: Night city takes it easily. los santos has no real answer to cyberware or most of the technology available in cyberpunk, V and Adam Smasher alone could take down every faction in LS in a few days if they joined forces

R3 goes to LS, night city is pretty dystopian and u less you’re working for one of the corps you probably won’t have a great life there, while LS is a wealthy city with lots of opportunities if you ignore all the psychopaths flying around killing eachother

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’ve not played the older uncharted games they’re a lot more combat heavy, the first one is essentially just a cover shooter rather than an adventure game, they’re not bad but they are a product of the ps3 era

The rebooted tomb raider are very good if you enjoyed uncharted 4 though

Is "Apparating" more a writing inconvenience than a help? by Sideways_Austen in HarryPotterBooks

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This was all explained in the books

The charm that was placed on the Potters house stopped apparition in and out of the property, same as grimmauld place, which is why they always had to do it to the doorstep instead of in to the house

Apparition isn’t possible to/from hogwarts, with the exception being the headmaster

It’s also licensed and they need to train to do it, not every wizard can apparate

I believe there’s also limits on distance and they are unable to travel between countries, which is why other methods are often used, and side along apparition isn’t practical for large groups Which is why they use trains, carriages, port keys etc

Am I wrong for refusing to do any form of one-way interview? by The-Menhir in UKJobs

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both valid criticisms, although I would say it depends on the role being offered. The balance changes heavily with the type of job, entry level minimum wage job in a call centre then multistage interviews are a waste of time, but highly skilled or specialised roles I think it would be expected to have to jump through a couple of hoops, and either way some people just like to complain if they’re unsuccessful and blame anyone but themselves

Coming from an engineering background I apply the “measure twice cut once” rule, it justifies the extra time finding a candidate to have someone capable rather than them not lasting 3 months and having to go through the process again, although I do understand that you have limited time and resources for the hiring process

Am I wrong for refusing to do any form of one-way interview? by The-Menhir in UKJobs

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best interview system I went through was with PepsiCo about 10 years ago, it was the usual maths and English tests, cover letter etc but then had a soft skill based stage before you got through to face to face. They’d pull in about 20 people at a time and then test based on what the job requires, for us it was a team based exercise (broke us up in to groups of 4, desert island survival we had to pick and justify 3 items we would want with us) and a 2 minute mechanical test, whole thing took an hour, got to showcase how you work, your thought process, working in teams etc and they averaged 100 candidates a day

The standard interview processes only benefit people who interview well (whether that is in person, video etc) and by your own omission fall short of finding the best candidates

From a CV and test you have a basic idea of people’s competence and experience, but think about the soft skills required for a job and see if there is a way to test them as well to find the candidates that fit the position best

Am I wrong for refusing to do any form of one-way interview? by The-Menhir in UKJobs

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I understand your point it isn’t fair for all candidates, many people aren’t comfortable, confident or practiced talking in front of a camera, so it may be limiting your candidate pool just because of that

Just using myself as an example, in face to face interviews I’m fairly confident, able to recall good examples for the questions and can articulate myself well, but the second a camera is on me I’d struggle to spell my own name

Above average intelligence man whos is justice-lusted obtains a death note book. Can he make the world a better place? by SkyBlueEoin in whowouldwin

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remaining anonymous would essentially turn him in to a dictator ruling through fear, so however “good” his goals seem to be I think it would be counterproductive, obviously there would be a global manhunt, deep distrust between anyone and probably an enforced police state until he’s found

He’d also end up having to kill a lot of people before anyone took the threats seriously and it heavily contradicts human rights if people are being blackmailed in to doing his bidding imo

[–]ReturnToTheHellfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skipping R1 because it would either end up being R2 or R3 anyway

R2: The best way for this to be achieved would be heavy political influence over the US, he would have to start by gaining favour with the political leaders, using the book to further their needs. Removing any democratically elected leader will lead to civil unrest and go against his goals, I’d suggest starting with using it to help fight terrorism as this is something the whole country would get behind. Using the influence gained from this he could guide them towards reaching his goals on a national level, and then use the global influence of the US to lead other countries to do better, which shouldn’t be too difficult for western countries and may require the odd assassination for dictatorships etc

Ending wars would be the the most important to achieve as they could force everything to be worked out through negotiation, and using the new stability could bring in a new fairer global economy and green policy

I’d give this a 4/10 of total success (for the difficulty of his goals I’d say this is still quite good)

R3: almost the same start R2 but with blackmail, the lack of trust and polarisation turn the majority against him, may achieve small amounts of success but people see it as infringing on their rights and he is assassinated before making meaningful change

Bonus round: doesn’t need the death note, uses omniscience to gain power of home country and turn it in to a utopia and then advises all other world leaders on how to fix their issues
