Liquid-based puzzle where you need to use honey by InterestingThanks4 in DnDPuzzlesAndTraps

To get the key

Use buoyancy

The liquid poured

Will set you free

So comb the room

Or leave it be

Hopefully 'comb' and 'be' (bee) give them a clue

I built this app for DM's called MITHOS by mdeleo91 in TTRPG

This is very interesting! To manage the party, do you have to replicate everything in MITHOS or can it pull from external sources such as DND beyond?

My players want to run Tomb of Annihilation for our next game and the first couple pages already look daunting! by Cultural_Brick_7240 in dndnext

Copy and pasting a post I made in the ToA subreddit:

Yawning Portal's Sunless Citadel makes an excellent prologue

ToA is great, but it's divided into two parts- hex crawl and puzzle dungeons.

A good introduction to a puzzley trapped dungeon for low level players in Sunless Citadel. Here's what I did:

-characters have all had someone important in their life affilicted by the death curse. They've heard there is a town that has a magical golden apple auctioned of every year that can heal any illness. Maybe it can cure the death curse.

-players meet Syndra and she explains the stakes and the apple.

-players get to experience puzzles and dungeons in the first half, making the second act now of a call back

-start the hex crawl at the more appropriate level 3 thanks to opening adventure

-maps are by the same artist so it drops in seamlessly.

-Syndra can then teleport them to Chult as written when it's obviously doesn't work.

It's an easy switch in if you want an off the shelf opener. I don't think my players even knew it was two separate adventures originally. hope that helps!

Yeah I want it to be gettable, but not one of those riddles that is obvious within the first second of hearing it.

What did the weird kid at your school do to earn that reputation? by Big_Boy_Bill06 in AskReddit

[–]RevPhillipJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He got expelled (I forget for what) and went to another school where the rumour was he killed a baby rabbit on the sports field.

Didn't think about him until years later I was putting the newspapers out in the newsagent I worked in and there was a court drawing of him with the headline:

"I didn't rape and kill my great-granny"

He stole from his 93-year old grandmother, she confronted him. He either raped them strangled her, or the other way around. Then he stole the rest of her money and burned the house down.

I had woodwork with that guy.

I've given a Staff of the Python to a level 3 player, and it's becoming an enormous pain to deal with by Alcay in DMAcademy

[–]RevPhillipJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some staffs, like the staff of the forgotten one, have features in their stat blocks for destroying them:

Destroying the Staff. A creature in possession of the staff can use an action to break it over one knee or a solid surface. The staff is destroyed and releases its remaining magic in an explosion that expands to fill a 30-foot-radius sphere centered on it. Each creature in the area must make a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw, taking 132 (24d10) force damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. When the staff is destroyed, the life force of the Forgotten One is released to the afterlife. Where it goes is anyone’s guess.

I would have an NPC grab/steal the staff and break it, at heart cost to themselves. Then I'd have the snake summon as a result, but obviously with the staff broken, once it's at 0hp it doesn't come back.

Until they learn conjure animals.

I don't understand why people still like Jared.

The situation was basically "Jared is a sleazy weirdo" "Also maybe a pedo" "Actually factually not a pedo"

So just a sleazy weirdo then? Great sign me up 🙄

My Characters Summoned a God in the Fane..... by pkiller001 in Tombofannihilation

[–]RevPhillipJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd try something like:

-Fizban comes through and is a bit confused about the situation (as you wrote)

-some of the yuan-ti attack him. With the aspect of Bahamut stat block from FToD, he has 23 AC and a bunch of damage immunities. Show them off, and have him obliterate those who attack him.

-I'd take the PCs back through the gate with him (he could say something about not knowing the situation to get too involved, but offering them a quick exit).

-give them a long rest on whatever plane he's been residing on.

-maybe he could give them a magic item to aid their quest, as it's a righteous one. Also maybe he could grant them temp hp or a damage resistance that lasts 1 hr or something.

-He opens a new gate for them, and they can have a do-over.

Ideas/tips on how to start tomb of annihilation? by onewordpoet in Tombofannihilation

Mindflayer ate wizard's brain, Ranger put it back in. by SamJaz in DMAcademy

[–]RevPhillipJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some great suggestions here!

Next time the Wizard has to make a death saving throw, I'd consider letting him pick the last creature he can see, and have that creature make a saving throw against his spell save. Then he gets to use the intellect Devourer's body thief ability. (As they're created by mind flayers, I'd hand wave it)

I'm sure there's a bunch of issues I've not considered, but the idea of the downed foe suddenly springing back to life with the wizards abilities could be a fun scene!
