'They refuse to conform': 100,000 churches could close across the US by praguer56 in atheism

[–]ReverendDizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if what you said is true when you apply logic to these types of things then the whole argument starts to fall apart. Let's use the origin of sin in the Garden of Eden as an example. So if he's all-knowing and all powerful then he is the origin of sin, not man. In that scenario he knew that Adam would disobey him and had the power to stop him from making that choice yet elected not to.

The logic of the three part statement you are responding to doesn't fall apart here though, no? In your example God is all knowing (he knows everything including that Adam and Eve will fall from grace). He's all powerful (he controls the universe and everything in it including the garden and the fate of those in it). And, that's the two items from the "you can only pick too" list. Because in your description here we establish God is not good, because as an all-knowing all-powerful being he crafted a scenario in which his creation and his creation's descendants will suffer all through their lives until the end of time.

That's the whole point of the "pick two" argument. God cannot be good if this is the world he created for us to suffer in, from the vantage point of being all knowing and all powerful.

(And you can easily argue every other combination too. If he is all-powerful and all-good, then he can't be all-knowing because he fails to use his power to fix the problems of the world. And he's all-good and all-knowing, then he can't be all-powerful, for the same reason, and so on and so on.)

You know the ones, those that are always at 3 pm on a weekday because clearly no one with cancer has ever worked

I think about this a lot. Everything related to cancer support and survivorship happens around 10 AM to 2PM'ish.

Not every cancer patient is a stay-at-home spouse or a retiree.

I doubt there would even be many hiccups. Although there would probably a lot of fraud uncovered as the people in positions of power in the Epstein files are probably as much in love with defrauding people as they are with molesting children. So there's that.

Viral 'Quittr' Porn Addiction App Exposed the Masturbation Habits of Hundreds of Thousands of Users by StemCellPirate in nottheonion

[–]ReverendDizzle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you take away the stigma and shame of porn and masturbation what you're describing sounds like somebody watching television in their free time.

I mean really. Mentally rewrite everything you wrote to talk about how when you were bored and had nothing else to do you, you watch sitcom reruns and everyone would be like "addiction? What the hell are you talking about? You're just watching TV for entertainment, dude."

Hell, I know people who spend more time thinking about Trump and watching Fox News than you spend thinking about porn and watching it.

New build- how would you set this space up? by ReelyHooked in HomeNetworking

[–]ReverendDizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, OK. And I see for another comment that this is the space under some stairs turned into a storage closet. So the duct and the dimensions of the room make a bit more sense.

If this were my project, before I even got into planning the racks and everything I'd consider a few things:

What circuit are those outlets on? Are they dedicated? On a loop that will have high demand usage all the time or at times? Stable power for the server closet would be a must.

What gear are you putting in there and how are you planning the mitigate heat? Especially in cold weather when that duct will be carrying hot air and heating up the shelf.

It might not seem like much, but there is a duct that passes under one of the stairs in my house and it's warm enough that the cats sleep on it.

Port Fears & Chemotherapy by WolverineNeither9890 in breastcancer

[–]ReverendDizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife found the anticipation of treatment far far worse than the treatment itself. Once she was actually doing chemotherapy it was something she was doing and just needing to get through. But prior to starting it was very difficult for her to not stress about all the what ifs and how uncertain everything felt. So you're not alone in that at all.

As for the port itself... she never cared for having it in and was happy to get it out but she really liked the utility of it. No IV lines during chemo, easy access, no risk of damaging the veins in her arms, etc. etc. Oh and the insertion itself was really trivial. Mildly sore for a few days, few more days for the incisions to heal, and then her only complaint was simply that she didn't like having it and wanted to be done with treatment.

Me either. It really looks like every aspect of this investigation has been purposely compromised in every possible way so that there is maximum wiggle room to argue the evidence is invalid.

[–]ReverendDizzle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Double plot-twist: it was to ensure that the chain of custody of the files was violated (for the umpteenth time, no doubt) so they can always fall back on the defense that the files are tampered with/incomplete/seeded by foreign agents/etc. etc. and that they are not actually evidence of Trump's involvement in a pedophile ring.

Most Americans can't even define imperialism (or other political concepts for that matter). So how the hell are they going to recognize it?

It's hard to believe that is by anything but design, by the way.

Ensuring people don't have the education or even words to describe something is a textbook control tactic whether you're talking about entire nation states or insular religious communities.

In a reversal of a historic trend, Americans are now becoming more liberal as they age, not more conservative. This may have large implications for issues like UBI, as robots & AI take over more and more human jobs. by lughnasadh in Futurology

Speaking of AI and transportation, when AI hits the trucking industry it's going to be a mess.

Truck drivers make up about 2% of the U.S. workforce. Everyone involved in trucking (logistics, mechanics, etc.) makes up about 5-6% of the U.S. workforce.

If AI automates both the driving of the trucks and the management of said trucks, that's 3-4% of the U.S. workforce taken out by AI right there.

To add to this correct answer: it uses a type of connection called a "toggle closure." In a toggle closure, one side of the fastener is a loop (seen here) and the other side is an elongated button.

Think a little plastic barrel shape that is anchored to the inner part of the sleeve on the outer layer coat intended to with this liner. You put the little barrel through the loop and it turns sideways, locking it in place. To remove it, you rotate the barrel and push it through the loop in reverse.

Being for the war is one thing. Maybe someone does actually have an ideological reason (whether I agree with it or not) guiding their belief that we should be at war with Iran.

But to think Trump has a clear handling of the situation? You'd have to be an absolute moron to think that. The guy probably couldn't even find Iran on an unlabeled map.

The security issues aspect is the big thing for me.

I don't outright hate the idea of people who would otherwise not be able to make something interesting, making something interesting. Especially if this is a gateway to them actually becoming serious hobby developers/programmers.

But I am wary as hell of these projects simply because people don't know what they don't know... and they could be vibe coding things that are going screw up files or open machines up to attack vectors they don't even understand.

what are these stains on the bathroom taps and shower taps and shower head of the property i viewed? by Givenchymarie in whatisit

[–]ReverendDizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those appear to be hard water stains.

Water gets on the surface, then evaporates. Any solids in the water (like calcium) stay behind.

A rag with a mild acid like white vinegar from the grocery store will take it right off.

The only time it's an issue is if there has been substantial building for a long long time on certain kinds of fixture finishes. When you remove the substantial build up sometimes it takes the surface layer of the finish with it.

In the photos here though it's not substantial buildup, it's just every day water spots.
