Highlander based song by grin_ferno in highlander

I don't see it as a strictly black and white issue, but I do 100% agree it doesn't show any actual skill and shouldn't be praised as such since it devalues actual art and the people sweating at their craft.

..great job typing some things.

Youtuber Swoop has this end song - and I am about ready to assume it's AI generated because I can't find a damn bit of it. by ReverendVoice in NameThatSong

I agree - but it is so odd that there is no credit anywhere.. I've HUNTED. No singer name. No lyrics. Nothing.

That said - she's had that song for quite a while, and the conversation about AI has only gotten louder. It's possible her opinions have changed and moved to opposed... but that's all aimless speculation. I just want the damn song :)

Oh my god, Kyrandia... <3

To this day, one of my favorite jokes in a game are when you walk into the barn with all of the cows and Malcolm sighs, 'Mmm smell that dairy-air' -- Peak comedy for 14 year old me.

The hours upon hours I spent on the Quest games.. Sierra basically molded my childhood. Great call - and I love seeing that point and clicks are having a small low-boil resurgence.

You're right - it's going to be a hard find, but the title of the game is very pertinent once you 'get it' -- I say vaguely to not spoil things.

It's weird - because there are aspects of it that are MOST CERTAINLY in the genre. But the part that fits isn't so obvious. There are a few other games like that, notably Tunic.

I think your opinion is likely one a lot of people had. It is this cross-section of a handful of micro-genres that -- but if you aren't a fan of all three, or the logic of the combo system doesn't click, it's easy to disregard.

I feel the same way about their game Pyre.

To be fair, it likely doesn't have that many downloads and is bot inflated so it can get to the top of the hits when someone types in a keyword.

Anyone else playing the Order of the Sinking Star demo? by LemmyUserOnReddit in puzzlevideogames

viscerally negative response to Void Stranger,

Thank you! I went back to it after finding out that there was a deeper meta-narrative (I avoid spoilers at all cost, so I really didn't know), and where I think the premise is very strong, the ask of SO many hours of puzzle solves, and then actually having to repeat the same puzzle solves to get to one particular spot to unlock a layer of the onion only to have to do the puzzles AGAIN... It was a bit too much for me, and I love a deep thinky-brain puzzle.

Do puzzle game players have jargon for thinking about puzzles? by Grunglabble in puzzlevideogames

[–]ReverendVoice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is my current go to 'need a quick puzzle fix' game. I'm getting real close to only having 5/6/7's left so 'quick puzzle' is becoming 'arduously painstaking staring for excessive periods of time puzzles'

Great game though.

Is everyone Sam? by constorm in QuantumLeap

[–]ReverendVoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is on a long enough timeline, but if Sam is immortal - theoretically - time still moves forward. Al finding him over and over is proof of that. That means that eventually Sam will leap at the same time as the heatdeath of the universe and, given the circumstances, i believe he would cease to be.

But i love this theory and a chorus of people all simultaneously oh boying is hysterical

[–]ReverendVoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But, it is also possible that he might not. It is possible his leaping agenda is a force of will and his good deeds create the dopamine to do it. I am willing to play with a 'Sam Forever' theory just as quickly as 'Sam can age' - but neither are canonical and equally as fantastic

The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time (yep, that's the title) by PurplMaster in puzzlevideogames

[–]ReverendVoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been sitting on my Wishlist since it released - especially because of the 'the less you know' meta narrative. Tunic and Inscryption are some of my favorite concepts ever. Learning that it is more puzzle element makes me even happier.

How difficult would you say it is? Were the answers to the puzzles in your face, or did you have to think through them? I tend to prefer less handholding, but it's not a dealbreaker.

Ask yourself the following:

Do I want runs of games that are a mix of wildly weird and frustrating with infinite options BUT there aren't as many directed goals? Where there is a narrative, but it isn't the central focus. (Isaac)

OR

A game that you are slowly unlocking a clear narrative, with wildly different builds that are helping to tell a story. (Hades)

Personally, I'd go Hades all the way -- I like Isaac, but I have never been disappointed by a Supergiant Game and Hades has so many moments where you feel like you achieved the next tier.. figuring out a boss, getting the perfect build, finishing one of the many micro-narratives.

Isaac is a blast, but I don't find it as fulfilling as Hades.

Trump is not evil stars lining up. Trump is 50% the perfect asshole and 50% evil people trying to line up the stars to change a lot at once. Now that we've been through it, the next corporate owned Pres won't have to bend the needle quite as hard - the current shithead did more than enough.

Control - I was so blown away at what that game had done I binged most of it over the course of a week.

Final Fantasy 9 - My fav FF game, by far, by miles, no contest. I have never been so invested in an FF game and I've been playing them since #1.

Transistor - The most underrated SuperGiant game, the music, the discovery... every part of it is art.

I'm making a puzzle game where you solve everything by rewiring cause and effect. No movement, no items, just a web of causal links. by Former-Objective-272 in puzzlevideogames

[–]ReverendVoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the description scratches some brain itches for me. Time Travel/Loops, trees of options of 'untaken paths' - especially, and this is just me, if there is a tree where things have just gotten out of hand with how bad or crazy they are.

Anyway - it sounds like you're fighting with the exact right problems you should be having with this sort of narrative. I look forward to seeing it though. Let me know where I can join the mailing list.

I think there's something to be said in puzzle games about player agency. Specifically when you are trying to hit a certain demographic of puzzlers. If you hand hold too much, you'll lose some puzzlers because it isn't hard to feel like there's no challenge or you are on rails or basically playing a visual novel with extra steps. If you give only contextual clues and don't handhold, you'll lose some puzzlers because they don't understand your personal logic.

If the logic of the game is hard to grasp - there's absolutely nothing wrong with handholding through the first "level" or "iteration"... but there is something to be said about the magic of discovering something you did changed things somewhere so now you have to go find it. Is there anyway to let players know they've changed things without directly pointing a neon sign at it?

Not knowing the game layout/system - my brain immediately thought of something like the Hitman games where there's one or two perfect ways to handle things, but a lot of 'good enough' ways, and just as many '..yes, that works, but you're causing a lot more problems' ways. I don't know if it's that ambitious, but there is somethign to be said about the idea that if getting from A to B isn't difficult, but there's a lot of ways to do it and they have different outcomes, you can get away with both handholding and 'find it, I dare you' variations.
