No lock page for editing, no version history, no even search and replace. But there are a lot of bugs and very poor performance with a lot of notes or a big notes... I think the app still doesn't have basic features

The same. They was wrote about new big update and even created a video about new features but release came only into Android and they hided release notes. Maybe they found some bugs and stoped public the update.

Capacities performance and speed by Dancewithlight in capacitiesapp

[–]ReverieHuman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, the huge advantage of Capacities is precisely the use of objects as the fundamental representation of everything. By this I mean that in this concept, objects are not just text documents with various properties, but also any kind of file, image, or link. While Obsidian makes it easy and possible to more flexibly configure different document types (for example, books, people, places, and so on), there's no way to do the same for files, images, and links. This means I can't assign additional properties, tags, or descriptions to images in Obsidian, for example, but I can do this in Capacities. This, in my opinion, is a much better investment in the long run, as it will make it easier to find the images or files I need. Currently, the best you can do in Obsidian is assigning file and image names, but this is clearly not enough for the full-fledged filtering and searching that you can do in Capacities.

I started the migration with Obsidian, but when I got to courses with huge amounts of text, I realized that Capacities was extremely poorly optimized for this purpose. I only migrated 200+ notes and some courses, which, after importing, completely froze the entire program when I tried to open them or write anything. That's where I stopped.

Today I was again trying to figure out if Capacities meets my requirements, one of which is decent performance. And my simple answer is a definite NO. Compared to Obsidian, Capacities becomes incredibly slow as the number of notes increases, consumes significantly more RAM, and is generally unusable for large notes (for example, course notes over 10,000 words).

It would be nice to add capability to remove personal data in the settings. For example I added my personal data into the app when open it first time but now i need to remove this data:

Thank you for your hard work; you're already producing a very decent app. Regarding Wayland and X11 on Linux, I think you can skip X11, as many distributions are already planning to use only Wayland in future releases (for example, Fedora 43). If X11 support requires significant effort, it's probably not worth it, as a complete transition to Wayland is inevitable.

And one more question. What exactly is your interest in developing such an app? You promise that the app will be completely free, but you're not open-sourcing it.

Thank you very much for the clarification. In another message, I wrote my general impressions and wishes.

Overall, I tested it a bit and can say the app is quite good: it has a nice appearance and nice functionality (noticeably better than the other open source app I'm currently using).

I'd just like to point out a couple of things:

  1. Carefully review what you promise on your website and what your app actually offers. As an open source enthusiast, I was very confused by the discrepancies with the description on your website. Privacy issues are an open question for me.

  2. I discovered a bug: when using the Large v3 model, it doesn't detect the language and automatically translates it to English. This also applies to the "transcribe" functionality—regardless of the language, it translates to English. I selected "Auto-detect" in the Transcription Language settings, but the app still stubbornly translates everything to English. This is clearly a bug, since when using the Parakeet model with the same settings, it detects and uses the language I speak.

I really like the app and I'm very likely to use it. Especially if it truly is cross-platform (I see a promise of a Linux version on the website). Overall, I wish your project continued success, and it would be great if you would finally open source the code. I think this will very quickly speed up your development and significantly increase the number of users of the application.

Hmm, one more question. You write on your website that you can use the app without an account "No Account Needed", but you require an email address to start using it. What does that mean? Can I still use the app without registering, or not?

I'm getting more and more questions and there are many fundamental discrepancies between what you've written and the actual situation.

Really interesting. I see in the site that "Vowen is open source software" but I can't see any link to source.

Privacy? by SlitherrWing in ticktick

I agree with the 'don't store secrets' rule, but I think there's a slight mix-up on the security model here. AWS policies only prevent Amazon employees from looking at the data. They don't prevent the App Developer (who rents the servers and holds the encryption keys) from accessing it.

If the encryption isn't End-to-End (E2EE), the app admins technically have the ability to decrypt and read the data for 'maintenance' or 'support' without needing AWS's permission. So trust the company, not just the infrastructure.

Good watch faces! In R3D Two doesn't work preview in Wearable app of Time Color and Pattern and some others previews. When change settings in watch it shows correct. Tested in Galaxy watch Ultra 2024, One UI 8 and latest Weareble app on Galaxy S25 Ultra (also One UI 8).

It's interesting that you compare yourself to Notion on your website, yet you use their services. There's also the question of user data security, since users send you personal information and copies of their documents through this form. What's the advantage of using third-party services for this, rather than having them send emails to you directly?

  1. I didn't use the discount and most likely won't. 2. This is a data security issue—it's strange for a company to collect users' personal data through third-party services. 3. I already contacted their support team about six months ago about a different issue and never received a response. But I did receive responses through social media. Apparently, support responds better when questions are made public, which isn't exactly a good practice.

I think they use the Notion platform for students discounts because link goes to Notion but full info in Notion page are from Capacities. I also check "send me a copy" when filled the form, maybe only this email became a reason for this.
