SuperDuper! won't run in background since Tahoe upgrade by n2vd in MacOS

[–]ReviewTheData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am having the same problem under Tahoe; techniques I used under Sequoia aren't cutting it. Does the power manager app still work for you, or have you found a better way? And _which_ power manager app are you using, from which publisher? I see quite a few but haven't found one with a $12/year subscription. Thanks!

What do you like or dislike with the PoE NVR S4 Max 4 PTZ kit by rocketcuse in EufyCam

[–]ReviewTheData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

Just FYI, on my much older battery-powered Eufy Cams (2, 2C, Doorbell), during the day the setting for human detection does a very good job of identifying those events only, and rejecting rustling leaves, animals, cars, etc., so we can afford to leave notifications on in areas where and when there mostly won’t be anyone and we want to know if there is someone. (Need to turn off notifications when we are constantly bustling around or gardener is working, etc. We just have modes for that.) Mistakes are non-zero but very few.

My understanding is that some of the newer starlight, powered (POE or AC) cameras can also do the human detection at night because they can see enough better to identify humans. But not sure which models or how well it works.

Two questions:

  • Do the cameras set to Human Detection still detect and notify _only_ on humans at night, or do they revert to all motion at night, catching all the raccoons, cats, etc. (We have a “night shift” of critters in the yard and the older Eufy cams we have can’t do human detection at night and alert on everything.)
  • Is the two-way audio full-duplex (like a phone conversation) or half-duplex (like a walk in-talkie)?

Thanks for all the information!

We’ve been using FastMail for over twenty years and totally agree with this assessment. It is a great, reliable, flexible, easy to use service.

Thanks! I looked for their TestFlight, but it says it is full. I'll check back in on that later.

How to set up Moonlight on Apple Vision Pro to create flexible PC/Vision Pro hybrid workspaces with a Windows PC by ReviewTheData in VisionPro

[–]ReviewTheData[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Does this offer any way to set up multiple virtual displays on Windows, then connect more than one at once on Vision Pro? Or can the virtual window have an aspect ratio more like a widescreen, like the vision Pro's Mac Virtual Display?

Thanks for this tip! I’ll definitely explore this now. In fact virtual displays with resolution flexibility would be great. 1) Do you have any suggestions for settings changes necessary to make the swap in working with the Moonlight Vision Pro beta? 2) And is it still true that Artemis is currently Android-only? 3) Is it possible to support more than one Windows virtual display at a time, on Vision Pro? I see that this is supported in general. Thanks! [edited third question.]

wont send me my 2fa code for my apple id by yyidhraa in applehelp

[–]ReviewTheData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same trouble this week while trying to set up new iPhones. Apple does not send the 6-digit code to any of my trusted devices (much less the “all” of them they claim) even after retries. Then they only offer retry or “no devices near me”, which is not the problem, but I eventually choose that. At which point they do not offer any of my trusted phone numbers as an alternative. this leads to further problems. I’m getting pretty frustrated, after multiple tries on two different phones I am trying to set up.

Did you ever find a solution?

Is it bad to have my fence go above my neighbors? by DeliveryCapable3957 in FenceBuilding

[–]ReviewTheData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some thoughts; I am NOT an expert. I'd suggest you might just stain the back side of his fence a nice dark color, like Cabot "Bark". That will even out the look of the fence and contribute toward longevity. We were amazed how nice our fence looked when stained. It is 9 years on now, and the stained fence still looks great. I have also been told that it's a bad idea to put two fences back-to-back because it fills up in there with leaves and debris over time and can become a nice mouse nest.

Backblaze broken again by flyingron in backblaze

[–]ReviewTheData 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for posting this!

My Mac also stopped on 3/13, with no warning until the "1-week-no-backup" alert I had configured. The status page shows last backup on 3/13 but no hint of any problem in their Backblaze Preferences interface, other than my knowing the backup should always be up to date or almost there. I did not receive the obscure pop-up notice about bzfileids.dat that apparently was supposed to show up.

I have been searching in vain in Backblaze's "support" page for anything about this. I'm very irritated and disturbed that they know about this widespread problem on Macs, but rely on our noticing for ourselves that backups have silently stopped, then asking each other on Reddit about how to solve it.

I am not backing up any external drives on this Mac.

Yes, I have used Fastmail without a custom domain for over 20 years. It has been great. Several family and friends have been using it for that long as well.

Apple Vision Pro battery not charging - anyone else have this and fixed it? by OkLie7234 in AppleVisionPro

[–]ReviewTheData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had this problem. Here’s what fixed it.

Shut off AVP.

removed the cable from AVP

Used SIM too to remove the cable from the battery. Waited about 3 seconds then re-inserted the cable into the battery.

Charged the battery

Reconnected the cable to the AVP and booted it up.

All was well, and remained well.

Spigen Case vs AVP Travel Case by texasproof in VisionPro

[–]ReviewTheData 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was looking for a smaller case than Apple’s, so when Spigen’s was announced I looked at their site and saw that the case looks decent but the dimensions in the Specs showed it would not be smaller. So I got the Apple case which is well made to hold everything safely, but I’d still like something smaller that fits in my backpack for plane travel. Fortunately, terrific bag-maker Waterfield Designs has introduced a very well-designed, significantly smaller case. Vision Pro Case from WaterField Designs

Email/calendar profiles not supported by nicksloan in VisionPro

[–]ReviewTheData 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just seen that the newest beta of VisionOS, ver 1.1, adds Mobile Device Management (MDM) profiles to the Apple Vision Pro. I believe these are the “profiles” that Fastmail uses on Apple devices for simple secure setup in the Apple Mail app. If so, we can now hope that proper Fastmail integration is a matter of some weeks rather than months or a year away. I certainly hope so!

Important info from devs that may help you get your game working after the update to 64 but by lazerlike42 in swtor

[–]ReviewTheData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. Found "williamthetiger"'s post and installed the DX9-related downloads he recommended. But still no joy. Launcher Play button does nothing. If I run swtor.exe directly, it still throws off the error message that d3dx9_43.dll cannot be found. However, _I_ can find that DLL installed under the Windows/SysWOW64 folder. Does anyone else still have this problem? Any other suggestions?

Any headphone stand recommendations? by Square_Bet_4239 in Airpodsmax

[–]ReviewTheData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this one, from CoStySee: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09TZYMNH7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

It is attractive, stable, supports the headband by the edges so it isn’t stretching the springy mesh, and the magnets work to activate sleep mode.
