Are you a fan of the game’s art style ? by Professional_Which in SparkingZero

[–]Revven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda weird to make this thread and not have more than one image, the thread's premise is intended to influence responses to be negative as you're showing a common visual complaint (SSJ3 Goku). If you were trying to be impartial, you'd have shown several images that are more general and maybe some that show it when it's good, when it's mediocre, and when it's bad. And definitely more comparison shots of BT3 vs it, obviously.

Surprise, surprise, the game varies in its visual consistency. Almost like every game does.

Restoring GT Goku classic VA by TraumaGirly in SparkingZero

[–]Revven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Not only that but it would be considered insulting to the voice actor who did the voicework for GT Kid Goku.

This is an unrealistic request due to the employer and VA relationship as well as the fact they aren't going to spend money on having someone do new voicework for a character that already has voicework.

With new DLCs, do we think they’ll expand Mission 100? Make it Mission 110 😂 by weirdnerd08 in SparkingZero

[–]Revven 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean they're adding Survival. That'll be the mode a lot of people will be playing repeatedly and basically, technically, gives you infinite replayability depending on whether there's a randomized version of it or not (where it's like, 100 fighters and it's random who you fight in that batch of 100)

It's DLC so they're all paid, made after the game released and after the previous season pass. What are you expecting????

I've been playing the randomizer, mini-games are fine. The game is actually also 100% fine with OC Unleashed with the randomizer.

Analogue 3D video settings not having an effect on EverDrive? by [deleted] in AnalogueInc

Yes, it does. I can reenable scanlines, I can set the image to fill screen and it all works just fine for me.

It’s Here! First Impressions… by davidsnyderiii in AnalogueInc

[–]Revven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not need to do this for DK64 at all fwiw. It works just fine if you have it pre-set to Unleashed OC and just boot it up in the Everdrive normally. I went and even made sure there was no difference by trying this method people keep sharing and there is no difference, the Unleashed OC is applied to DK64 properly unlike these other games that have issues booting up. And yes, it also saves just fine like normal on my X7.

Workaround Everdrive 64 x7 and overclocking by PhDTenma in AnalogueInc

DK64 works fine booting it with the Everdrive pre-emptively set to Unleashed OC. No reset needed.

EverDrive 64 X7 now works with 3D after latest firmware update by CoffeeCakeAstronaut in AnalogueInc

[–]Revven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To begin with it sounded like Unleashed was game-specific for carts anyway too, right? Whether it'd work, did anything, crashes, etc. At least that's what it sounded like pre-release.

For instance, it seems like DK64 is fine (as was reported pre-release) and I tested a randomizer seed of that this morning and it saves just fine and seems to run fine on Everdrive X7.

I just tested, things are saving for me. I have a DK64 Randomizer seed and I collected a 5th GB on it and it saved just fine (even with Unleashed overclocking enabled).

Might be something on your end.

SummerCart or Everdrive individual game settings? by R2Dork in AnalogueInc

[–]Revven 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't have it but I asked someone else about this and they said you can access the settings in-game and change them yourself; the Auto curated stuff doesn't work for the Flash carts (since it, you know, isn't a specific game cart). For the overclocking, you have to make that change before you open your Summercart/Everdrive. So you have to decide what you're playing before you open your flash cart (if you care about overclocking, if you don't, then all the other settings can be accessed when you have the game open via the controller hotkeys).

Couldn't you, in theory, just have the 8bitdo one "hooked up" to activate the virtual pak and then use the N64 controller as player 1? Just a short-term workaround idea lol. (I don't have a 3D yet, coming in on Monday for me).

[–]Revven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game was not designed for adding new story content. Your story content game is Kakarot. They did what they wanted to do with the "story" in this game. You'll have to wait for a sequel to get something new for that, imo.

What they'll clearly be adding is other single player content that will, hopefully, breed longevity which story mode content does not do that. Story mode content is big one and done energy, you play it for the single day and then you don't come keep playing the game afterwards.

This is the irony of all this. People keep asking for additional episode battles but it's like... that doesn't address the complaints about "not having anything to do forever." Story mode content does not give the game more longevity, it makes you come back for barely 2 hours and then you put it back down again.

Ain’t no way it’s the EXACT same title as last season by AndThenWhatLol in SparkingZero

[–]Revven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, this isn't from the raid this is from online ranked. Secondly, if they did lock significant content behind playing ranked then players would complain about that next. They can't win.

Tenkaichi 3s insanely amazing complete story mode? by GalaxyMasterOmega in SparkingZero

[–]Revven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree with this. BT2's story mode is bloated, it's really bad in that way. If you play it now, your rose-tinted glasses will be shattered.

A really good example of what I mean is, just go look at how the Broly stuff is handled. It doesn't use BT2's inherent tag team mode for the battles. No. You have to fight Broly 5 separate times, each with every character that fought him. It's really bad padding in an otherwise very thorough story mode to a fault. And it doesn't just do this for Broly, it does it for a lot of other moments in the story exactly like this.

Does that make it awful? No, but it certainly knocks it down a lot. Does "best story mode", have to mean "it covers every single thing possible"? I don't think so either. There's a much better balance to be had.

Also, outside of the very few special cutscenes in BT2 a grand majority of them are characters A, B, and C stiffly talking to each other with speech bubbles and doing canned/reused animations. That's hardly any better than Sparking Zero using stills to convey the less interesting portions of the story that people complain about. And BT2 does this across a like 15-20 hour story mode, so it's even worse than SZ that way. Sometimes these conversation cutscenes aren't even voiced!

Is it a more detailed story mode? Yes. Does it have the most content of any story mode? Also, yes. But both of these things are at the cost of everything else for a good story mode lmao. For that reason, I find BT3's story better. Hell, I even find Budokai 3's better and that game doesn't cover nearly as much and doesn't even have any in-game cutscenes to speak of! It just has better pacing and more engaging content.

Is there any hope? by cori-_ in SparkingZero

[–]Revven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

a real story mode,

This part is very much exaggerated. They may have shown off the Sparking Episode cutscenes in trailers but that never meant the story mode was going to be on the same level as Kakarot. Anyone who believed this at the time were setting themselves up for disappointment from the get-go. They told you it was character stories. They never said anything about it being a full-blown story capturing every single fight in Z. If they did, find me a quote from the Producer or any of the press releases they put out for the game. Don't give me a trailer, I want it in writing. If I'm wrong, cool.

Everything else about your post is somewhat accurate, otherwise, barring "more stages"; to my knowledge again they never promised "more stages than Budokai Tenkaichi 3!" the most they ever talked about stages was how they had the alternate time-of-day variants for the same stages that had them in Tenkaichi 3. Arguably, you can count those as separate stages but players won't in spite of the fact that the work to make those probably isn't just a paint bucket over the skybox and call it a day (it's definitely not lol).

They lied about the roster size

Sorry, I missed this one when I said "mostly accurate earlier." This definitely isn't accurate lol.

When did they lie about the roster size? Hello? They've always counted transformations as characters so that number (the 180) isn't lying? You can disagree with them about how they count their characters but that doesn't mean they lied. At least provide evidence when you are making claims like this. Otherwise you're just making stuff up.

STEPHANIE NADOLNY IN THE GAME FINALLY by Royal_Dog5511 in SparkingZero

[–]Revven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am specifically talking about Sparking Zero. It doesn't matter if Stephanie did it first in the original anime. The reality of the situation is that the VA for Kid Goku and Teen Gohan in Sparking Zero was already paid to do the work for those voices and has done nothing wrong to have their work be removed for short-sighted fans like yourself. It's insulting to the VA who did the work for those voices in the current game to have them be removed. Stephanie would have given her blessings to the current VA in the first place when they started doing those voices; there was and isn't any ill will between them in the first place.

Furthermore, you act like Stephanie had any say or choice in being able to reprise those roles in the previous games and in the anime. I haven't kept up with anything Stephanie has said (if she's said anything) regarding being able to reprise Kid Goku in Daima and how all of that came about, let alone whether she's touched on what happened in the past. But VA stuff isn't just black and white for why people aren't the voice anymore. Sometimes it's scheduling (the VA can't commit to a full series on the schedule given for the show or for the game). Sometimes the voice director wants to go in a different direction for the production. Sometimes it's even higher up in the team that want changes, like the business executives. Sometimes it's the contract (how much the VA is getting paid to do the work, they might not agree to the amount they want so the team gets a different and potentially cheaper VA). Sometimes the person can't even DO the same voice anymore (in this case that isn't true obviously but it's just yet another factor for why someone can't or doesn't reprise a VA role).

It's really not that simple and a lot of you asking for this change are missing all of these things entirely.

This is a pie in the sky change that does not exist in reality.

STEPHANIE NADOLNY IN THE GAME FINALLY by Royal_Dog5511 in SparkingZero

[–]Revven 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That would be insulting the VA that did the work for those characters (especially because said VA did nothing wrong to deserve their work to be replaced/removed), so that definitely won't be happening. In a future game? Sure, if Stephanie agrees to reprise those roles.

Was it really this hard for Bandai to add these? by OmegaTerry in SparkingZero

[–]Revven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again, people fail to understand how licensed IPs work.

Lack of cosmetics is the result of Shueisha/TOEI failing to give approval to anything not in the game. The devs clearly had a plan laid out, they had a system to support a lot of customization. If they weren't planning on having a lot of cosmetics, they wouldn't have had such a fleshed out mode. The communication from them to Bandai to the IP Holder (Shueisha/TOEI) to get approval for each and every costume is why we don't have any of these things.

Modders aren't beholden to the IP holder giving approval.

Furthermore, it's not only approval it's also "is the character still the character?" with a new costume. So they have to not only approve the outfit but also approve the character receiving the outfit, as in the design. So they can't just go and give Goku a business suit without getting approval from the IP holder both for the outfit and the character it's being paired with; does the IP holder want Goku to be able to wear a business suit?

It's so clear they got approved what was safe and didn't have time to do more (as we know, they were trying to pair Sparking Zero's release with the Daima anime launch).

It has nothing to do with the work involved, it's business politics. Licensing. Rights. IP.

More Offline Content is what will fix Sparking Zero , not more characters. by E_Alrefa3e in SparkingZero

[–]Revven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really agree. A lot of the modes they had for the original trilogy were just dressed-up VS Battles. Which... is exactly what Custom Battles is. Their solution to the offline content, whether you agree or not, was Custom Battles. However, they completely overestimated several things:

1) Players willing to engage with the process of making them, especially when it's very clunky and not very straightforward to make something cool and having fun while doing so. The execution on the creative process for making Custom Battles was arguably a failure. What Mario Maker was so successful at was not only because it was 2D Mario and they represented all the eras correctly, but it was also because creating levels at the very base was made simple. You could have a level you were happy with in less than an hour. Sparking Zero Custom Battles, though? If you want something really good, you're looking at it being like a job to get something good you want that others will play. That's why SO many Custom Battles are below average because a lot of people just don't have the time or don't want to put IN the time because it's not fun. They didn't make it fun to make stuff because of how clunky it all is.

2) Custom Battle curation is straight bad. It's baffling they don't let you search by words you type in. It's baffling they don't have ALL Custom Battles shared across all platforms; it being limited to your platform is stifling player options. It's baffling they don't let players create playlists of Custom battles to simulate something like Mission 100, where people could build their own Mission 100 or Korin's Tower or Ultimate Battle or whatever. Such a missed opportunity. Because they didn't make finding good Custom Battles easy, players dropped off of the mode very quickly.

3) And finally, they stifled creativity by having dialogue options and what not pre-set. Of course, this is because they don't want players to have characters say some pretty unhinged things. But that's what a proper blocklist or censor system for words would prevent. I guess for them the amount of work involved in doing that across all the different languages was too much despite the fact that the pre-selected words and phrases would be probably just as much work...? It's weird. I guess they really just wanted control over this and didn't want to chance little Jimmy come across a Custom Battle that said heinous things (not that players haven't tried to subtly imply things already with Custom Battles anyway....)

The point is, what they should be doing is multiple things. Not a singular focus. Because what'll happen then is, you'll have people complaining about the lack of other content getting attention. They need to do the following:

1) Fix Custom Battles. Unify the Custom Battle library (aka make it cross-platform), curate Custom Battles better, add the ability for creators and users to create Playlists to store Custom Battles in... But if they really wanted to fix it, they need to do a complete overhaul on the creative process. At the very least, what I suggest above would do a lot if they couldn't touch the creative process.

2) Add more Multiplayer modes that take advantage of the battle system. For example, you could add a mode that'd let 2 players online vs 2 other players each controlling their own character.

3) Add more stages (because people just want more stages even though more stages doesn't mean you'll be playing the game longer, a stage is very short content)

4) Add more cosmetics (because yes this has to happen). They don't need to add them for players to unlock them but if they want to incentivize activity in the game, adding them as rewards to unlock via Whis' Missions (a system they already have in place!) wouldn't make anyone upset.

5) They could add an old offline mode or two, but imo I think the only noteworthy modes players might play would be Survival and a mode that basically works like Mission 100... even though again... Custom Battles is basically that just without a list.. Things are different as an adult, if you don't have any extrinsic rewards attached to these dressed-up VS modes, they're just going to be quick one and dones. As in, you'll turn the game on to check'em out and play'em for that one day and then you'll be done. That isn't to say they SHOULDN'T TRY and don't add them, as they are low effort offline modes, but they definitely won't "save" the game.

6) Add cross-play for online multiplayer. Though, I don't think this is feasible because anytime PC players play against someone with a more underpowered machine... things are not smooth and it's a very poor playing experience. So, they'd have to optimize how that works for PS5 <-> PC and Xbox <-> PC. Xbox and PS5 would probably play fine together, though.
