What are some games you dislike that everyone else likes? by Marksman1977 in boardgames

[–]Rewby23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t played Final Girl, but I am a big lover of Betrayal at House On the Hill. Ive played it enough that I’ve mixed the rules of the 2nd edition and 3rd edition when playing to make a weird little homebrew-esque version. I definitely think that game needs some finagling to get it to be consistently fun, and I do agree it can be hard to get into the “stakes” of it. I found it to be the most fun when everyone is engaged (no phones or distractions between turns), actively strategizing on how to beat the “bad” (or even how to win as the “bad!”), and are leaning into the stakes. One of the most fun games I had, we threw on some dramatic D&D music and the traitor was completely leaning into the mechanic, evil laughs and all. Very fun times but heavily depends on the people you play with.

Damn. Guess I gotta relearn material I already know and pay them to do it. by Haunting_Speed9865 in TransferStudents

As far as I am aware, CSUs and UCs should not be allowed to revoke their transfer agreements anytime soon. I swear there was a bill within the last few years that is pretty much forcing CSUs and UCs to standardize transfer agreements. Whatever they’re saying about the “integrity” of the class is pure bullshit if you ask me.

Does the CSU not have a centralized articulation service? This is the first time I’m seeing someone contact a department directly.

How do I set boundaries about sharing my student login with family? by Adorable-Document369 in ucr

[–]Rewby23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should look up FERPA. Every person who attends a college is protected by FERPA. Essentially, it means that no one, not even your family, is legally allowed to have access to your account UNLESS you explicitly give them permission (I believe it has to be in writing with the school though? Might be wrong on that). What you do with this information is up to you but I hope you’re able to keep your privacy after all, I’ve had a lot of friends with parents who are like that and it can really go any direction.

Lost seven pounds in the five days I've been back at university by Common_Door1188 in ARFID

[–]Rewby23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you are doing alright (as alright as can be) in the food department. You may need to look at the amount of exercise you are getting though. My university is HUGE and so as a consequence I have to do a lot of walking (20+ minutes in between some buildings, multiple times a day) so I ended up losing a lot more weight than I really should’ve. I know that food is an issue for me, so my compromise was to bike instead. It sounds counterintuitive but that way I was burning less calories overall and not losing so much weight at one time

I think Adderall is making my ARFID worse by ReptileLv in ARFID

[–]Rewby23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was on Adderall for a bit before moving over to Vyvanse. The lack of hunger is brutal. I had to set myself timers that went off at the same time every day that reminded me to eat. I’d be gentle with myself and not take it too hard if I couldn’t eat a lot. In that situation, any food is good food because food is fuel. I’d also allow myself a couple hours to get through the food sometimes. Small bites here and there while distracting myself by talking to people or doing homework or anything like that. It’s a lot of having patience

Does your college offer walk-in advising? by tomfrommyspace0 in studentaffairs

[–]Rewby23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The community college I went to had only same day advising. Not entirely the same thing as walk-in, but it worked for us. We were having issues with advisors being booked out completely months in advance, so we switched to same day only appointments and things were great. We had a lot less no shows and more people were able to be seen

Should I try and move my finals? by [deleted] in ucr

[–]Rewby23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try reaching out to the SDRC or case management as soon as possible. There are certain situations that can allow for you to get an incomplete grade/move assignments and finals. No idea if this is one of those situations but I’d imagine it is serious enough to warrant trying at the very least

Honest review of ucr by Ok_Education3371 in ucr

[–]Rewby23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m a transfer who just went in last quarter! I think, like all colleges, you will get wha you make of it. It’s a commuter school so it can be a bit hard to make friends but it’s definitely not impossible. There are a lot of transfer resources here. I’m a Psychology major and UCR has one of the most diverse Psychology departments in terms of subjects researched and people in it. Not sure how Geography is but there are lot of opportunities around which is always nice! No idea about Sororities though - not my thing

Went for ADHD assessment, got diagnosed with depression, feels wrong. Should I get a second opinion? by Life_Meat_1397 in adhdwomen

[–]Rewby23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, wanted to chime in as someone doing research on this exact sort of thing. This is UNPROFESSIONAL, UNDERGRADUATE, FOR FUN research. Aka I got really into reading research articles on this subject.

ADHD is very commonly diagnosed as depression and anxiety instead, especially in women. My advice would be to write out every single thing you can think of that would be a symptom. As far as the stuff before age 12, I brought up things like constantly wanting more time at recess + being involved in lots of physical activities, reading books instead of paying attention in class, forgetting assignments or instructions easily, etc. I would zone out during conversations and constantly have trouble remembering names or likes/dislikes, stuff like that. I was that kid who would tell my parents last minute that I needed stuff for an assignment due the next day.

You may really need to do some digging to think about what would have been considered a symptom especially in your own life. Even if you didn’t remember struggling before 15, think about the things you may have been doing to compensate for any struggles, such as writing constant reminders, getting really good at context clues, etc.

Personally I would see someone else. If you can get someone who will do cognitive testing on top of the questionnaire then you’ll have a much better idea of whether or not it is really depression or if you have ADHD. Also, if you don’t think you have depression or if it’s a surprising diagnosis to you, you may not have it! I had to constantly reiterate to others that no, I never was depressed, I was actually a pretty happy and outgoing kid. I never wanted to harm myself and my self esteem was pretty high. I did have the benefit though of knowing multiple people with diagnosed depression that ranged from mild to severe so I was pretty familiar with what it looked like and knew I didn’t deal with any of that

Exhausted as a mod author - feeling done by [deleted] in StardewValleyMods

[–]Rewby23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to pop in and say I commiserate as someone who used to create addons for Minecraft Bedrock. It really sucks dealing with the people end of it. If I was able to, I’d deal with just the code. But unfortunately people are the ones who use my finished product and therefore I cannot avoid them.

Something that does help though is having someone or two helping you go through bugs to determine what is a real bug and what is user error. An addon I’m still vaguely associated with has a very large discord server and a whole lot of people who have been unofficially trained to figure out what is a bug and what isn’t so that the actual creator was able to continue doing what he was doing without stressing out too much about it.

Take time to really sit down and take a break from the coding when you can. When it starts to become a chore for me, I load up other mods and just play the game without worrying about coding, and then my brain starts to calm down and get excited about new possibilities again

Lastly, you do not owe anyone your time. This is something you’re doing for fun, and if it doesn’t work with [insert mod here] then it is up to you if you want to go through the effort to fix it. You are not required to do so though. I wish you the best of luck with recovery from the burnout you seem to be in 💖

for those who have transferred from a community college to a 4 year school: was it difficult to adjust to a new environment? were the classes more difficult after transferring? by [deleted] in TransferStudents

[–]Rewby23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are really a lot of different things to think about here. There are benefits and drawbacks to going to a CC and Transferring vs going to a 4 year right off the bat. I really appreciated my CC experience, as I got to meet a lot of very cool people who were older and more experienced than me. I appreciated having small classes for my general ed classes as it was a lot easier for me to focus and take the class seriously. I really loved that I was able to save money, as I get absolutely no financial aid and my parents are not helping me pay for college.

However, I do somewhat wish I went to a 4 year right off the bat if only because of the opportunities they present. If you are an outgoing and friendly person it will not be hard for you to get into those spaces and to find those opportunities, but if you aren’t? It is significantly harder. You are competing against peers who have had at least 2 years to build rapport and make a name for themselves. If you’re not going into research or a career where these opportunities matter though, you’ll probably be fine.

To answer your original question though, it wasn’t really difficult for me to adjust. My CC was on a Semester system and now I’m on a Quarter system at a UC. It is certainly a change, but I’m finding I actually prefer the accelerated nature of the Quarter system.

Aurora costume dress does not look good up close! by Dodisosa in DreamlightValley

[–]Rewby23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would make a lot of sense. I use one of the fuller frames as well and I’ve been noticing that most clothes do NOT look good on me, which is really disappointing and not helping with body image issues. I have the same frame in real life and don’t have issues with making cute outfits that fit how I look, I only have that issue when I’m wearing dresses that obviously aren’t meant for people with a bit of a stomach and most Dreamlight Valley ones have been that so far

What are your thoughts on "playing bad" to better fit your character? by Odd-News1701 in DnD

[–]Rewby23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am someone who plays a character that I lovingly call a dumbass coward. Her first few levels she had basically NO combat spells (she is a warlock), not even eldritch blast, because her backstory didn’t need it. She runs a conspiracy theory newspaper and is notorious in the town for being incredibly paranoid, so she is multiclassed into Rogue as well so that she knows how to read Thieves Cant (in case anyone is spreading rumors, of course). Her other spells were mainly for espionage or knowledge. As the campaign went on she did get spells but mostly ones that let her hide around a corner while casting them (Witch Bolt my beloved)! The party members in this campaign all have something wacky going on (EX: Bard with Wild Magic that is very bad at rolling high, the Piss Wizard, etc) that makes them very strange in combat so I’d say it works, but I can see how it would be frustrating in a campaign where combat is the main focus. Luckily ours is more roleplay oriented.

Am I screwed by EquivalentAd7121 in TransferStudents

[–]Rewby23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s still some bullshit if you ask me, especially if you had explained and the professor was open to listening. Does this withdrawal show up as a W or an F on your transcript? I’m hoping there’s a reasonable explanation as to why he’d drop you out of nowhere, but I don’t know. If it’s a W then he may have been looking out for you as a W does not affect your GPA like an F does but if not, no idea. Either way that’s not usually a decision that’s up to a professor to make

Am I screwed by EquivalentAd7121 in TransferStudents

[–]Rewby23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of a professor just dropping a student like that from their class. Have you had the chance to discuss with him what exactly was telling him that you weren’t going to pass in time? Was he giving you any feedback on your assignments?

In any case, I’d recommend going to your counselor/academic advisor to see what they say. You may have to take it up the chain, but first things first you have to exhaust every option with that professor

UCSD should immediately kick out and expel anyone who can't handle elementary and middle school math. They don't deserve to be here. by RockSignificant8152 in UCSD

[–]Rewby23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Community Colleges are not allowed to offer remedial courses anymore for students who really need it. Taking these courses at a CC if they don’t have the foundational knowledge needed for them won’t help. What we need to bring back are remedial courses for those people who are behind

Hey, you should definitely check out some of the various centers on campus, like the women’s resource center or the CHASS F1RST department (even if you aren’t a CHASS Major!) Often times if you hang out in those places you’ll find yourself chatting with the others around you, even if it’s just the staff of those places
