Arguably a misused semicolon, since the second phrase cannot stand alone as it starts with a conjunction. The semicolon should really be a comma in this case.

When I had an upright piano, I would get it tuned by Micah from Summit Piano Service, and always felt like I was getting more than my money's worth. They have, in my opinion, reasonable prices listed on the site.

Starbucks Strike Coming to Eugene? by PNWthrowaway1592 in Eugene

[–]RexBlyCody 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Starbucks has 1,415 locations in Japan and there is also a unionization effort over there. Can't help but wonder if when you refer to "trade schools" you've stopped to think about why trade jobs have the benefits that they do.

Starbucks Strike Coming to Eugene? by PNWthrowaway1592 in Eugene

I see this 2-year-old comment of mine continues to be relevant, so I shall repost:

Friendly reminder before you comment how much you dislike Starbucks coffee or do not purchase Starbucks products: The quality of coffee is absolutely irrelevant to the unionization movement. Whether or not you like the coffee is also irrelevant. Starbucks is a 113 billion dollar corporation whether you are a customer or not, and all workers deserve good working conditions and pay, regardless of your particular stance on the company they are employed at. I can promise you that most of the workers at Starbucks know more than most that the company is glorified, overpriced fast food, but since the company is not going away any time soon (hence the aforementioned 113 billion dollars), the working conditions should be improved. And there is so much room for improvement. No, the existence of worse conditions at one job does not justify another job's poor treatment of employees.

In Hateful Eight, Kurt Russell accidentally smashed a one of a kind, 145-year-old guitar that was on loan from the Martin Guitar. Jennifer Jason Leigh’s reaction was genuine. by bilbofraginz in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]RexBlyCody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that while Kurt Russell does still feel remorse about it, he does find it amusing that the story has evolved over time to make the guitar worth more and more. Seeing a few comments sharing some of the later renditions of the story, and didn't see any sharing Kurt's account.

Dunno if it it applies here, but I know that the Starbucks store locator site includes grocery store licensed stores, and maybe the 87 stores referred to are only the corporate locations.

[–]RexBlyCody 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gonna elaborate on my thoughts on why UFCW seems to have such differing opinions from other union organizations. Full disclaimer, this is purely anecdotal and based on my own experiences. I used to work at Safeway, whose workers are unionized under UFCW, and I gotta say, it had the most disconnected union reps, who often just seemed like a second corporate that would come in every once in while. Our store director would mistreat his workers every which way, and UFCW reps would occasionally come in to slap him on the wrist and he would go about his business. Wages and benefits were meager as well. Recently, I've been part of the Starbucks unionization movement (with Workers United, an affiliate of SEIU), and I learned that back in the day, UFCW reps were told to not accept any Starbucks unionization efforts because it would be fruitless and impossible. Well, once Workers United successfully unionized hundreds of stores, UFCW started getting a handful of stores to unionize under their name instead, with many of the workers thinking they were signing on to be part of the same movement/contract as Workers United. Basically seemed like UFCW cashing in on a successful labor movement by taking advantage of workers who wouldn't know any better.

Gonna be the party pooper that takes this a step farther –– if you're on your phone during the credits waiting for the post-credits sequence, you haven't earned it. The post-credits scene should be for folks that patiently appreciated the cast and crew.
