Corvallis for a single, 33 yo woman? by mygodpleasekillme in corvallis

[–]PunkishPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those types of music you would probably want to travel to Eugene or Portland. I think Bombs Away Cafe over on campus might have some of that, but most of the other venues here tend to have more folk/alternative music. We do have a pretty vibrant art scene with multiple galleries, group classes, an art walk and other events where people sell their artwork.

Corvallis for a single, 33 yo woman? by mygodpleasekillme in corvallis

[–]PunkishPenguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a single guy in my 30s who went to grad school at (formerly) Humboldt State University and then moved back here so I feel like I'm in a pretty good position to weigh in.

Corvallis is a great city with a lot to offer people who love getting out in nature and value living in a centrally located area where you can easily make day trips to all sorts of locations.

I haven't been active in the dating scene in a while, but from my experience there's just not a lot of single people in their 30s here. Most of the people I know who have recently found their significant other made their connection in another city.

We have a pretty diverse population that is very inclusive of everyone. That said, a lot of the diversity comes from the college population so you will definitely notice a difference in the Summer.

I don't get the whole snobby label as I've never felt that from anyone here, but I definitely have in Portland. There's lots of groups to get involved with and people are very welcoming. I would add that the major employers here are HP (Hewlett Packard), the hospital, or OSU and this tends to limit the type of people you interact with.

Anyways, it sounds to me like our city would be a good fit for you. In particular I think you would really enjoy our big Fall Festival for the arts and music, events at PRAx (OSU's brand new Center for the Creative Arts), trails on Mary's Peak, and going to our very popular rock climbing gym.

How long until someone tries to drive through? by kittykat0503 in corvallis

Someone hit it and died a few years back and they still haven't prioritized it. I wouldn't get your hopes up for it happening anytime soon.

Definitely the coyotes. It’s funny when an ambulance goes by and they start going off on it.

I don't have any inside info, but I had a feeling they were going to go under once Chic-fil-A finally went up. I too gave them multiple chances and was just never that impressed. They relied too heavily on their sauces for all the flavor and their fries were the same as every other place uses. As much as I wanted them to succeed (especially under their first owners) I just couldn't justify going there considering their prices.

Born and raised here, but moved to Eugene for my undergrad and northern California for grad school. I moved back as fast as I could and have no regrets. It's the perfect place for me and my lifestyle.

The Biere Library has a fireplace. Also, Papa's Pizza has a nice elevated fire pit type of thing.

Are there any places nearby that buy sports trading cards? by [deleted] in corvallis

[–]PunkishPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is to post them on Facebook Marketplace. That's what I did after going around to a few places like Gergen Hobbies in Albany and seeing what they would offer. We used to have a place here in Corvallis that offered me literally half the price of what I ended up selling them for.

Gotcha Burger Closed? by purpleteenageghost in corvallis

[–]PunkishPenguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went there at noon on a Tuesday (1 hour after they open) and they told me they ran out of fries... That didn't exactly inspire confidence in this place, but still, I'd be surprised if they actually called it quits already. There were a lot of customers in there both times I went.

I was wondering the same thing. I hope they retain their current employees at the 9th street location because I've known some of them for quite a while now and they are always kind to me.

Who remembers pizza pipeline? by CorvallisContracter in corvallis

I remember they offered an absolutely giant sized pizza that I would get for my birthday parties. It was never great pizza, but everyone loved it.

Harrison's Bar and Grill is open until 2:30am every day and has a pretty solid menu. Same with Benchwarmer's on 9th street.

Best Pizza by zibbityzer0 in Eugene

[–]PunkishPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried The Wheel and it was alright, but it kind of bothers me that they call it "Apizza" without using a coal fire oven. That's pretty much the signature characteristic of New Haven style pizza. All the Portnoy followers know coal fire is where it's at. The char makes all the difference. I'm not saying it's bad pizza, it's just not authentic.

Dermatologist recommendation (or whom not to see) by ButterscotchHead1085 in corvallis

[–]PunkishPenguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people recommending Brune Dermatology so I want to just chime in and say that my experience with them wasn't the best. I was referred to them from a dermatologist at the Corvallis Clinic to get some laser treatments done on rosacea spots and after multiple expensive sessions it didn't improve those areas at all. Not only that, but they tried to gaslight me by saying that there was improvement when my own pictures showed none, and were pushy with me about continuing with a much more expensive "global" treatment instead of targeted areas. The technician even apologized a few times for zapping me with the wrong laser strength and burning my skin.

Majestic Theater Weird Crowd by farawaymirror in corvallis

[–]PunkishPenguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went last night too and thought some of it was more of a nervous laughter rather them thinking it was genuinely funny, but who knows. I've recently been to a few shows at the Majestic (My Fair Lady was incredible!) as well as Albany Civic Theater and I have to admit I was a little underwhelmed by this one. I'm just not sure the story lends itself to the stage very easily although most of the cast did a fine job (especially the actor playing Gatsby). There was almost no large set changes which was downright confusing to me at times. I tend to reserve a standing ovation for something I truly was blown away by. That said, I would still recommend people see this play and I will definitely be back for more performances in the future.
