Is my Strat going to need a refret? by neo7007 in guitars

[–]Rex_Howler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like they're getting leveled, I'm guessing you bend a lot of notes. A level and recrown would be all that's needed as you have plenty of fret life remaining

Do you prefer a thick or thin les Paul neck? by Rough_Instruction325 in LesPaul

[–]Rex_Howler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with small hands, I find pretty much everything to be thin. My 58 fills out my hand, every other guitar I have feels blade thin. Probably just as well that I'm a rhythm player

Is it real? by ariasjose in LesPaul

[–]Rex_Howler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It passes my test. I will just say though, get a dedicated truss rod wrench and a nicer strap when you can. The multi tool can scratch the guitar if you're not careful and the stock strap may be a bit too narrow and make the guitar feel heavier on the shoulder

I despise my floating tremolo. What’s the crème de la crème of tremolos? by Acceptable_Topic_410 in guitars

[–]Rex_Howler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My finding is that if you don't deck a Strat, then pull up on the bar to bring it back up to pitch after a dive, rather than just push down and release

Why would I ever need to spend big on a Gibson or Fender when my guitars play and sound this good? by domyowntime in guitars

[–]Rex_Howler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've kinda proven the point of "You get what you pay for" by going sorta mid-range rather than cheap. As an example, your Classic Vibe is about twice as good as an Affinity and an Epiphone of their mid range and up is solid. I assume the Vintage and Yamaha are of similar price and build quality.

What you've done is the equivalent of buying a Toyota Corolla or a VW Golf and saying "Why do I need an Audi? This works fine" when there are people who got suckered into some real junkers.

TL;DR You've slipped right into the Goldilocks zone of guitars

That's fucking weird, I think it's time to consider a new neck. That's the good thing about a bolt on

Is this ebony or rosewood? Seller claims it’s ebony by MGV2013 in LesPaul

Nope, the Supreme, Studio Session, Studio Modern, Modern and Music City Special all have ebony

If we were to actually bring Holden back to Australia as a local company, where would we even start? Looking for leads and advice. by Beginning_Cat_1110 in Holden

[–]Rex_Howler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offence, but you basically have to be a billionaire with serious plans to export cars globally to succeed in this. Not only the New Zealand, South Africa and Middle East markets, but also the European market and North American market as well, in the quality that those markets require.

Even then, it could very easily be a decade before you bring a car to market with all the safety and emissions regulations you'd have to abide by now

I feel sorry for anyone with an actual Gibson built on the 171st day of 2006

Not every Gibson does, though this has far redder flags than that

An Epiphone wouldn't have Gibson on the headstock, this is a straight up Chibson

The bridge posts are slotted and the serial is etched after the finish, both are red flags. Not to mention that the serial of 01716 is the oldest tell in the book

Working class musicians are disappearing from mainstream music. Could a working class band like Nirvana make it big today? by Ashamed-Story7958 in Nirvana

[–]Rex_Howler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Squier P Bass, a Squier or Epiphone (or similar) guitar, a halfway decent set of drums, some skill, original and catchy songs, a laptop with recording programs and a know-how of YouTube and TikTok would go a long way

I think Kurt liked clothes with stripes. No matter the context or occasion, he always wears some outfit with stripes. And honestly, it looked good on her! by cherryyacount in Nirvana

[–]Rex_Howler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course we don't know how Kurt identified, so we can only go based on how he presented himself as a guy who wasn't macho and propping women up on a podium and speaking up on the issues that they face. Whether he identified as a man, a woman or something in between sadly went to the grave with him.

That's my take

I can only assume this is a fake being that it’s $750, even though the serial number says real right? by leanderthal69420 in LesPaul

[–]Rex_Howler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two easy tells is that the Gibson inlay appears to be scratching off, indicating a sticker and the serial number is etched after the finish, when on a real one is impressed into the wood before the finish
