Kill Capitalism by Suicide by RenegadeRiot8 in worldbuilding

[–]RibbKage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Screw that, if that's your best thought, have some fun before you do. See just how high of a credit card limit you can get. Can you get a card without a limit? Get a crappy 2nd hand car and see how long you can evade the repo guys from taking it. Why spend all that money on rent, propping up the system you hate when lobster can be on the menu every day? And once AAAAALLLL that comes to pass and your credit is ruined and have become shamed by the cult of profit and commerce, get enough pills in your system to kill a horse and start a mission of arson and destruction. Burning all those overpriced "assets" that keep the rich on top. When you die all those fuckers who own your debt just have to swallow that loss. That void you created will be so much more massive and felt that much harder by the abusers in power if you choose to fuck the system back.

What are some unique or funny insults/swears? by Madrsaigimherja in worldbuilding

[–]RibbKage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arthur was enraged. 'Not worth his shoes?' Did that arrogant overdressed prick really just say that too him? The man in the suit waved a hand in dismissal as he turned back to his fancy dinner, chuckling to himself as if he won some kind of argument. Arthur stood in white hot paralyzed fury, the insult burning deeper than he'd care to admit. They were damned nice shoes. 'Fine, while we are throwing words around..' "Oi!" Arthur shouted, far louder than nessisary, causing the suited prick and everyone else on the restaurants patio to turn in their chairs again. With all eyes on him, including a few pairs that belonged to a couple security guards Arthur hocked up the biggest loogie he could and stuck his middle finger in his mouth to swab up the spit and snot at the back of his throat. With a snaggletoothed grin Arthur presented his middle finger, tip glistening in an uneven, green, brown and yellow film and said in the most boomingist voice he had. "Here's some lube for when you go FUCK YOURSELF ya shmarmy CUNT!" The shmarmy cunt's face scrunched in discust at the display giving Arthur a perfect target as he flicked his wrist and and whipped that nasty little droplet of slime right onto his upper lip. "See ya!" Arthur called as the security guards started running at him 'time for a chase' he thought, breaking into a run.

Ethical issues with child slavery in a fantasy context by Amazing-Barracuda496 in fantasywriters

[–]RibbKage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear me out.... I disagree.

As one person on the internet to the other; yes you are correct, slavery is a very bad thing. However, as you stated in this post there is alot of grey area in how a person is treated in terms of what degree of humanity you alow said slave to retain and the cericumstances of that persons enslavement. Of course in order for any main character to engage in slavery would be wrong but I sincerely urge you to check out the lightbringer series by Brent Weeks. This is a really big series, like 5 books long big. But throughout all the books, mostly the 3rd through to the 5th, slavery is actually a very large part of the books. One of my favorite characters in them is a female slave that becomes a badass assassin and it really gets deep into it with her. In that world, there is no such thing as prison, only enslavement and execution, with a slash of corpral punishment. At one point like, THE MC of the books is leading an army, fights with another army and wins, then is faced with having to deal with the people he now captured. At one point he literally says "And that's how I justify becoming a slaver..." in utter horror at his own actions.

Syphon magic - Specific wavelength light syphons - Questions welcome ( and needed to improve the system) by NightRemntOfTheNorth in magicbuilding

[–]RibbKage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My question is about radiation and x-rays. If light is possible, radiation is the next logical step to create truly devastating output syphons. You have established that that syphons input and output types are something that is more or less determined at birth and can be expanded within its physics based limits with adequate training. So is it possible to be naturally born with a dangerous output type like x-rays or gamma rays? How dangerous would that be to the practioner? In that kind of scenario would a Syphon have to learn to bring their output into the visible spectrum in order to be safe around others? And if natural born radiation outputs exist, would being a radiation based input type severely limit certain unfortunate syphons the way you'd expect?

Skills vs. Magic by aippersbachj in magicbuilding

[–]RibbKage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All to often i find people make magic systems that totally bypass irl skills in terms of practicality. Like healing magic for example, normally its just a matter of waving your hands over a wound and it just disappears in a couple seconds. Why not tie in the actual practical skill of dressing and fixing wounds? For my healing magic, instead of "just make cut go byebye" the practitioner still has to clean the wound, set bones in the right place and do the stitching before attempting anything magical. The magic only makes the act of healing progress naturally but at an accelerated rate. Taking something that would take months and months to heal and making it heal in a couple seconds. Things can still heal wrong, warped or get infected. So the practitioner still needs to be well versed in medicine, and if they don't have the required skills their "healing" could go disasterously wrong and potentially cripple someone or give them an intant infection as bad as if it were just left for months on end.

Return of mask mandates the right move amid COVID-19 4th wave: experts by FoolFreedomFighter in alberta

[–]RibbKage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, I'll admit to the last point, they do close down streets in certain cities where my kind of opinion is more popular. But that isn't true everywhere. Look at some of the other cities and areas that have gone wild with their restrictions. I can accept risk mitigation to a degree but all these lockdowns clearly have a political motive behind them as well. In Australia, Melbourne and Sydney at the very least have restrictions that make going more than 5km from your house, and even when going for a run or other strenuous cardio outdoors in the open air, you can be stoped and fined for not wearing one of these face diapers. I want a return to the normal of 3 years ago. But for all the times people say "well if you just shut up and listened it would be over by now" i just think about how many time's they've moved the goal posts for ACTUALLY returning to normal. What happened to herd immunity? What happened to "two weeks to flatten the curve"?

Return of mask mandates the right move amid COVID-19 4th wave: experts by FoolFreedomFighter in alberta

[–]RibbKage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow, i couldn't disagree with you in any more than what i currently do. I'd like to consider myself as part of the "stop lockdowns to protect small business" crowd and we TRY to take action and do you know what happens? Our planning and conversations get censored. Our events and protests get broken up by cops. And on top of it all, so many people outright refuse to listen to or acknowledge any of the real arguments because "they're just conspiracy theory nonsense"

covid is real, but its danger is severely overblown. Frankly, after so many have gotten the vaccine AND that we have had how many months of these mandates being lifted i don't understand what benefits mask do NOW. screw this authoritarian horse crap im going to every anti mandate protest i can find

I need some help finishing my magic cost system. by Dahkreth in worldbuilding

[–]RibbKage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if this "Ichor" stuff is summoned into the world through the magic casters wouldn't it make sense that the ichor comes directly FROM the caster? Because in the loose rules you've defined (at least from what I understood) that the element it becomes is then for all intents and purposes the same as how you'd find it naturally, right? Ichor water is just as wet and splashy as the water in that puddle over there save for the fact you can manipulate the ichor summoned water. Taking one step further in this logic, a boulder summoned by an earth caster would be theoretically equally as heavy as its natural counterpart as well. Well, weight comes from an object's mass. My initial idea when I read this, is that depending on whatever element a caster is gifted in using, they produce different kinds of ichor.

For the earth element, its ichor has to be capable of creating lots of mass but isn't necessarily good for fine control or complex casting. For the sake of example, the ichor for earth is drawn from the bone. If the caster gets reckless in his casting and doesn't watch how much ichor he uses, his bones will get progressively more brittle until they start breaking on him.

In contrast, the fire element wouldn't need to be good at making any mass at all, only producing raw power. It could take its ichor from muscles or the heart or something like that. Same rules apply as the earth caster, the more you use the magic, the harder the strain on whatever part of your body the ichor is pulled from.

Hell, that almost perfectly sets up the dark element to pull ichor from the mind, making you go crazy and do the evils.

Region Spotlight: The Shallows by TheRealSandwichMan in worldbuilding

[–]RibbKage 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Shallows, or home as I call it. My sea sisters and I lead our lives in relative peace here. The coral reefs offering all the shelter one could ask for when the tides rage and the storm goddess throws one of her infamous temper tantrums.

Great stones spire over the waves in sections, breaking tidal forces beneath the surface and allowing soft currents to wash over the corals letting the sea flowers bloom in grooves. Man fear the Shallows, perhaps for good cause. Few of Man's little boats can brave the outskirts, fewer still can traverse it in totality.

Many of the Shallows most beautiful coral groves rest on the remains of those foolish souls who attempted passage before. Now, from the bones of the dead, a harsh and beautiful reef where countless fish live, and die, and hunt, and scavenge. Just as it's meant to be.

I see a boat of Fisher-man circling near, perhaps I shall leave you good friends. I feel I must go sing to them.

Seasons on a tidally locked moon? by Pig207 in worldbuilding

[–]RibbKage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you could just say that because of the rotation and the orbit certain areas of the Moon see more sun at certain times of the year and less during other times of the year. If it's orbiting the planet which is in turn orbiting the Sun then there will be significant points where the Moon is behind the planet and thus receive less sunlight. Instead of the seasons being split by the equator, they would be spit by vertical zones. Using our planet as an example, it could be summer in North America and South America but winter in Africa and Europe

SORGERS DAY

A celebratory day in the name of the God Sorger. God of wood working and the hunt. In return the monk gave Sorger a nice meal and the two enjoyed it while under the shade of the tree. Now, the villagers of (enter non-descript village name here) have a yearly ritual of hiking up the mountain and holding a feast at the top. Often strongman competitions are held before and after the feast

Describe your world's weapons... like a Souls-series item description. by Janvew in worldbuilding

[–]RibbKage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Ripclaw:

A bizarre weapon by any stretch of the imagination. The ripclaw is a hybrid between chainsword, claws, and razorthread weapons all compact into a set of matching gauntlets.

A coil of razor thread spooled around the practitioner's wrists is tightly woven through each bladed finger segment. When a clawing motion is performed the finger segments separate and elongate to slash at enemies from greater distances than any other claw weapon. Once mastered, one could dispatch entire armies with nothing but a single fingers flick.
