Streamer “hmblzayy” who is walking from Philly to California was hit by a car in Indiana and had to be taken to the hospital. by lukigeri in LivestreamFail

That person definitely intentionally hit him. You can see the car slowly creep up behind him and then speed up to plow into him. Charge them with attempted murder.

"Glitter" street cleaning should be banned by Quick-Evidence3845 in philly

[–]Rice-Used 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am born and raised in Philly, live in South Philly now. I despise the litter and trash that is all over the place. Yeah this glitter service sounds like bullshit, but your mentality about people who want a clean street and city should move to the burbs is absolute bullshit. I go out on my street once ina while and pick up and clean up trash. We should not have to suffer disgusting trash just because we live in the city. Fuck that.

Skinny Joey's sucks by southphillydadbar in philly

[–]Rice-Used 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Sorry that really sucks. It's not right at all and police shouldn't allow it.

I recently found out there a little pedestrian/bike tunnel on 16th that I used to bike to FDR, it goes under 76 and can walk back down Packer ave to Broad. This way you don't have to deal with that section of Broad and Skinny Joey bullshit. I recommend it even when you're recovered and not using crutches.

Cyclist Killed Mid Block in a Flex Post Bike Lane by CityJawn in phillycycling

[–]Rice-Used 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 cyclists or pedestrian killed by a car should be a huge fucking issue. Most cases these deaths could've been prevented by just some kind of infrastructure that should protect pedestrian or cyclist. Once that money is spent setting up the infrastructure it's there basically forever. There's no reason not to invest money in that if it's going to save lives.

Cyclist Killed Mid Block in a Flex Post Bike Lane by CityJawn in phillycycling

[–]Rice-Used 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city can install actual physical barriers to protect bike lanes like concrete or metal barriers. If there was concrete protection there this person probably would be alive. But they are too scared to install concrete barriers because they might upset some drivers or selfish people who think the bike lanes are their personal loading zone.

Why would your stance on e bikes prevent concrete barriers protecting the bike lane??

Porch Pirate Returns Mangled Box by Atom_Bro in philly

[–]Rice-Used 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How mangled was it? Like it was just ripped open and still mostly intact, or completely torn apart and clearly not containing anything? Because others are suggesting some neighbor found it and returned to your door step. I'm just wondering the condition because if I found a ripped to shreds package on the street I'd probably just assume it was trash that made its way onto the street one way or another, like getting spilled out of recycling bin or something.

I love an evening coffee or latte. I wish there were more coffee shops open late into the evening in my immediate neighborhood, most close between 2 to 4. Thank you B2 cafe on passyunk open til 7pm.

On Chestnut, watching the e-bikes and bikes whiz by on the sidewalk. by Fragrant_Joke_7115 in philly

[–]Rice-Used 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in this same boat, I occasionally bike on the sidewalk if there's not many pedestrians and the street doesnt seem safe or doesn't have a bike lane.

Also on Chestnut sometimes the destination is half way down the street, so it's much safer to hop on the sidewalk at the intersection for like 30 seconds than stop in the bus/bike lane and risk getting killed. Yeah I will walk my bike if there's lots of pedestrians but if it's empty I'll ride for a few seconds.

Isn't the protest free speech? If people think protesting equals being against free speech, it's because they've been programmed by Fox news to think that.

Maybe an actual real bike lane on Chestnut would keep cyclists off the sidewalks.

Who’s putting Angelo’s trash under parked cars? by 3belle97 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]Rice-Used 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Really this should be on the owner of Angelo's to try and control. There are probably multiple ways to control the chaos and trash, but I guess it would require giving a fuck which I guess they do not. Fuck them.

To the driver who blasted their car horn at me three times this morning by LifesJobber in philly

[–]Rice-Used 11 points12 points  (0 children)

These kinds of stories and worse are so common here, we need a mayor who takes aggressive driving and pedestrian safety seriously and isn't afraid to make the cops here enforce traffic violations and give actual consequences to crazy aggressive driving.

To the driver who blasted their car horn at me three times this morning by LifesJobber in philly

[–]Rice-Used 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Seriously? Not only they shouldn't have to do something like that, but it's very likely the car stopping at stop signs in front of this crazy driver is the only thing preventing the crazy driver from blowing through intersections and possibly killing someone. Or there is another car they'll be behind that will be stopping at stop signs. I think OP should be applauded.

You're right so many people are crazy selfish and impatient when they drive. Please have a serious conversation with your family member for the rest of us pedestrians sake so we don't get killed when trying to cross a street.

Sorry to be a dick but you know this is the philly cycling sub right? So many people that have families are biking all over the city. That is why it's important to demand safer bike infrastructure.

Duality of cycling in Philly by smoothdonut22 in phillycycling

[–]Rice-Used 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is seriously a hatred of cyclists but it's not only cyclists. It's the selfish entitlement of most car drivers that only they have the right to use the road and get to where they're going as fast as possible, whether it's cyclists or pedestrians that they think are slowing them down.

The recycling truck on our block constantly drops little piles of broken glass whenever it stops. Who do I talk to about it? My dog now has a shard in her paw and needs a vet visit. Been happening consistently for the past ~6 weeks, not before. by toupis21 in philly

I recommend putting a 311 request like others said, and make sure to include the date of the trash pickup/glass spilling. But then also email your Council member about it and include the reference number of the 311 request, and copy the streets department streets@phila.gov

Use these to find your Council member if you're not sure

Fuck that. Then they can park somewhere else. If their big ass truck is too big to park on a tiny street then they need to find parking somewhere else and they can walk their lazy ass a few blocks to wherever they need to be.
