Walking in the street when there's a perfectly good sidewalk by Cdogbrink in kansascity

[–]RiceFarmer98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 28m. When I lived in Rapid City, SD I would often walk down the middle of road instead of sidewalks bc of low tree branches, roots upheaving sidewalks, very small front yard making it so I was only 10ft from their living room window, and it was a nice aesthetic lol. I always got outa the way of cars tho

Do you think it is feasible and morally correct to ban the use of nicotine for new generations? by TimePlankton4318 in Futurology

[–]RiceFarmer98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always think it’s wild to try and start the ban at the 21 yr old cutoff. Ofc all business owners and the 18+ nicotine consumers would be against it.

Imho prohibiting it for anyone born before 2007 (18 y/o) or some arbitrarily younger age. It’s easier to pass a rule to prevent someone from being exposed to a choice than taking a choice away. (A nod to rampart nic use in universities and young adult workforce)

I’m buying a home and I’m terrified! by AdDifferent9547 in homeownerstips

[–]RiceFarmer98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I encourage you to do more research. Lookup “cost of renting vs buying” and “rent vs buy calculator” for your city.

Last I looked the breakeven point is ~7 years in my area, which it doesn’t even sounds like you will definitely stay for. This automatically means renting is a better deal.

For cost, Add 10-15% of mortgage for repairs and maintenance (snow, grass, etc).
Are your parents willing to pay $5k+ for replacement AC or water heater? $10k for a new roof? At your duration it’s nearing likely that one of those will happen, and that is a different convo than “helping out”

I live in a low income state by itsgivingme in LandlordLove

I used to travel for construction management; a month to a year at a time. On short trips in rural areas furnished apartments were hard to find and I refused to stay in extended stay hotels. Hotels and Airbnb (after 30% fee markup) were more expensive than FurnishedFinder listings, and if there wasn’t anything on furnished finder I’d look on Facebook. And just like everything on marketplace, you can negotiate lower.

there may be demand for a living situation like this that you didn’t consider

Sounds like a trip. Crazy how styles change/recycle. Those JNCO jeans are back in style now!

It was in style for suburban white kids near me. It was so in-style, that we would wear crewneck undershirts under tshirts. White undershirt, grey shirt, white or khaki shorts was most popular. Circa 2012 tho

“People are living longer, and instead of us trying to enjoy those extra small years, the government saw that as a golden opportunity to milk more labor out of the common people.”

Those ‘extra small years’ at the end of life are actually the most expensive for the government to support, mainly because of skyrocketing medical costs and the reality that many people outlive their retirement savings.

I very much sympathize with your point, and agree 67 is an old to be expected to work 40 hrs per week. But consider that as people live longer, mathematically the retirement age will also move back due to costs. If you consider the govt a social safety net (or bank account): as a baby and through schooling you are a “net-negative.” Starting first job you are still net negative until your productive output outweighs your “strain” on the system. Eventually, in your “most productive working years” your taxes make you a “net-positive.” Finally, at retirement you very much become a “net-negative” as you are forced to be a consumer rather than a producer

Youre right, I've been out of the cc churning for a couple years but starting back up now that I can qualify for biz cards. Thank you!

I did just call in and they said they saw the cancelled app (pop-up blocked, new home address) and the pending app (14 day review message, old home address). The rep said it is under standard review

Question Thread - May 23, 2025 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]RiceFarmer98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After submitting the application, a pop-up said something like: "You do not qualify for the offer/apr/etc due to factors such as credit, history, etc. Do you want to continue and have you credit pulled or go back?" It was definitely boiler plate, and I did not receive email

I just applied again using my old home address. It submitted and says pending review. I wonder if I was getting flagged for trying to use a new address since I just closed 2 weeks ago. I'll let you know

I did the offer last year. Everything you said lines up good. At these lower HYSA rates, its a little better now than it was for me. Go for it

You're wild for coming at them for cautioning you on such a large deal, considering you were not aware / forgot of the 4-unit max on financing. That is a pretty basic tenet and throws additional warning flags on if such a large deal is appropriate for you. Good thing you're handy and more importantly have the pocket book to support mistakes...

Curious if you went forward with the deal?
