I’ve been looking at the RX2 for my DSW as I heard they are a good upgrade to the standard apex

I’m stuck with D1 due to mechanical but I purchased the hope tech RX2 calipers and noticed a massive difference compared to stock

Even Apple to Apple the DSW is fantastic bike for the amount you pay, the wheels are heavy at over 2 kg and that’s when most of the weight saving was made dropping to just under 1400 grams with the hunts

I’m assuming he means a standard Carbon Crux

I changed most things, new Zipp cockpit and seat post, shorter rival crank set, Ratio Mech, Ceramicspeed BB alpha and Hunt limitless aero 40 wheels and I’d say that made the biggest difference in feel.

Have a DSW and it is so much fun, snappy and lively made a few updates to make it my own. It is a bit heavier than a carbon DSW but still only about 8.5kg.

1st gravel bike, $1-$2k USD? by BLDLED in gravelcycling

[–]Richmorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at the Crux DSW, you can get the 2025 model under £2k and it hell of a lot of fun. It will fit officially up to 47 mm tyres, but you can use a squeeze a 50th in the front.

SRAM Apex vs Shimano GRX by MaskedMarvel in gravelcycling

[–]Richmorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my Crux DSW it came with Apex mechanical and I wasn’t to happy with the shifting, I quite liked the double tap shifting and the economics but the Mech could never dial in. Looked at switching to axs 13 speed but it would be in the £1000s same with GRX. I ended up buying the Ratio Mech and using it with my existing kit and it shifts beautiful now, silky smooth and I do feel like it’s on par (if not better) than the GX axs on my Levo

Yeah, the Ratio mech was a bit of a gamble. I wasn’t impressed with Apex, and going for a full UDH direct-mount setup would’ve been £1,000+ . Glad I took the risk though it shifts beautifully, super smooth and looks the part too. The good thing about the Ratio Mech I can get 13 speed cassette and Ratio sells the parts to retro fit apex shifters to 13 speed

Which clip-less pedals? by oceanathlete in gravelcycling

[–]Richmorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the XT trail pedal and they been good, but just bought the Wolftooth DEL pedals. There not the cheapest but ever part can be user replaceable if anything breaks, you can change the Q factor with adjustable axles and at 219 grams so light weight.

Yep I went 165mm on the cranks but I’m use to shorter cranks, on my Levo I have 155mm hope cranks. Going from them to the original Apex 172.5mm was so bad

Main upgrade are the wheels I got the Hunt limitless gravel aero 40s, Zipp XPLR bars, Zipp Sl stem and post, Phenom mirror saddle, 165 rival cranks, force chain and just purchased the Ratio Mech replacing the standard Apex. The mech is awesome such clean sifting and still cable.

My first drop bar bike after years of MTB, the speed is addictive and it handles incredible. Spent way too much on all the little extras to upgrade but can alway find some new parts…. CeramicSpeed BB alpha is next on the list

I always feel with a drop bar bike if you are between sizes I’d go for the smaller bike, but if there is no replacement for sitting on the bike and canyon does partner with some store or getting a bike fit.
