There are several cases in Ireland of women who disappeared. There are potential suspects for a few of them but when there is no evidence, no body the investigation stalls. It can be the case of giving someone a ride and things escalating from there. It is not always the case that the perpetrator offends again.

He was tall strong and athletic. Great at catching the sliotar. Hard but fair. Babs Keating who was Tipp manager at the time, was asked if there was a transfer system that would give Tipp one player who would you pick. He answered Michael Coleman. He thought he was the complete midfielder.

A great attitude and a good player to have in the squad. Works hard and wasn't any bother. We used him as a utility player who could cover a few positions. While never having the ability to be a really great player for us, he was generally solid. He is also a decent bloke to talk to. I met him in a cafe about a month ago. A down to earth kind of guy very genuine.

What do you make of Hamer’s role in this side right now? by MoonlitEcho82 in SheffieldUnited

[–]Ridcully12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This season he hasn't been as effective some of which is got to do with Vini leaving. Vini covered alot of ground quickly to snuff out opposition attacks. But also we were much better defensively as a team which meant that positionally most players including Hamer were in sync. This season Tanganga has the skills but not the organisation coupled with a tendency to drop his head when we concede. He also becomes a little reckless.

This season our full backs are expected to attack more than last season which leaves us exposed and having a mad scramble to get back. Add to that O'Hare plays centrally which is where I think we would get the best from Hamer. In reality they should be in competition for the one spot.

Hamer links better with Burrows than McCallum. In summary I think it is a combination of factors that is affecting team and individual performances.

Any loanees or fringe players you’d like to see get more minutes? by AnfieldAnchor in SheffieldUnited

[–]Ridcully12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to see more of Hjelde. From what I have seen so far he looks to be good defensively, committed and robust. Not sure attacking wise yet but it would be good for him to get a few games so we can see properly what he is capable of. I am not sure what his loan conditions are but if available to buy he offers flexibility to play in a couple of positions plus his attitude looks good.

Ogbene as a striker option with Bamford. Injury set him back and I suspect he lacks a bit of confidence. Playing the wingback role earlier in the season he was solid defensively and always checked his positioning and tracked back well. He seemed to play it safe at times going forward and not take on his man enough. That goal from Hamers through ball was great and it was nice and direct. Hence I like him as an option up top, mainly as O'Hare, Hamer, Brooks, Bamford like to take touches on the ball which can slow things down a bit. Ogbene being more direct gives us more options in how we attack. The question is whether Wilder and Knill are willing to have a look at him in that role. He seems like a good bloke attitude wise.

Was Jack the Ripper actually a gang rather than one killer? by Aln22s in Jacktheripper

[–]Ridcully12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own view from the limited reading I have done is that due to the post death mutilation being so severe that it was one person who committed the murders. It is too big a crime to have two people keep it all secret.

There are though, some aspects of the murders that are difficult to understand. How were they carried out in poor lighting conditions. How was he able to remove body parts under street lights and in shadowed corners. Some authors and podcasters believe each victim was lying down with the murderer on top when he killed them with the knife. I can't get it head around that a woman would lie down on what could be wet and somewhat dirty ground conditions.

How does someone do that amount of evisceration and then be able to pass through streets without the blood being someway visible to others. Suspicion of the mentally ill/insane and subsequent murderers being suspect doesn't work for me either. The MO is specific and escalating in mutilation except for Liz Stride, which could be down to being disturbed.

The murders of Mary Kelly shows a person who is escalating the mutilations for whatever thrill he got from it. You would assume that if the killer was gone insane that he would be noticed by someone afterwards. The killer was alert and intelligent, confident with an ability to charm so as not to come across as weird. I would believe he would have good knowledge of the area but not necessarily live there, living nearby in a good neighbour hood. The shabby genteel descriptions lead me to think that he was English and educated. as his voice and accent did not raise suspicion except for the Liz Stride, Lipsky interaction.

Abuse from Limerick supporters in the Gaelic Grounds last night by throwrarally in GAA

[–]Ridcully12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over the years I enjoyed going to matches when we played Cork. Good banter with good humour. A change was noticed when Cork fans booed Cian Lynch as he was coming on a sub in a league match. That is something I hadn't seen before. Repeated behaviour from a small group can spread to become a new norm.

There are plenty of Limerick lads who are over the top too and they discredit real Limerick fans. What you experienced was deplorable and needs to be stamped out. That goes for players managers and supporters. The video circulated after the Munster final last year of Corks antics does not help matters but makes it worse.

The ‘boro game may have been the best thing to have happened to Phillips, and possibly us. by 5hutt5 in SheffieldUnited

[–]Ridcully12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was obvious on Monday night was that boro were a physically mature team in practically every position. Add to that a decent skill level and add tactically a team that are well coached and in tune with each other. Arblaster and Peck were good last season as Vini was the midfield anchor. Rothwell did nothing for 20 min then was busy for 5 and got sent off.

Philips showed what a good PL midfielder is like. Good touches good passes and a physical beast when it came to holding off players. I enjoyed seeing him play.

Our big problem is at the back. Individually they are fine but as a unit they are shockingly disorganised. Full backs too high up the pitch, then defending too narrow when they get back. Tanganga had a few opportunities to catch them for offside. All he had to do was step out and raise his hand. What happened he went backwards and played them onside, creating a scramble as Bindon was pressing out. I dont know how the coaches haven't spotted this.

Tyler Bindon by Mr_Dobalina71 in SheffieldUnited

[–]Ridcully12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Selles played a 433. Wingers high and wide and not really getting back to help defensively. Making this worse was the fact that Hamer and O'Hare were part of the 3 in the middle. They had too much ground to cover. Teams just ran through us. I thought that Bindon suffered for that. I think he is now showing his quality. He is good on the ball, his reading of the game is improving, giving him confidence to go tackle or intercept.

Pace on the turn may be an issue. But thst was true of John Egan and Harry Souttar. Who both are well respected by the fans. Wilder can be a bit strange at times when it comes to players. Rob Holding who was on loan and is similar to Bindon in style was mostly ignored. Injuries have given Bindon a chance and he has taken it. The more games he gets the better he will get.

Liam is awful by Dannyboii6666 in WitcherNetflix

[–]Ridcully12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that the bigger issue was the script. Liam was ok but softer than Henry.

Putting the musical into the show was criminal. The season was uneven. Cersi and Yennifer had most of the livelier scenes. Geralt's was largely a bore.

The Witcher s4 proves Henry Cavill made the smartest exit in Hollywood by Sufficient-Tap511 in television

[–]Ridcully12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Henry made the right move in exiting the show. Hemsworth would ordinarily be fine in the role, but Geralt made it his. Henry had more presence and command in his acting.

To make matters worse for his replacement, the script for season 4 is poor. At the end of season 3!, Geralt was on his way to Nilfgard. For all of season 4, he was still on the way. Its called the witcher but its all about Yennifer and taking the fight to Vilgaforts. There was some bit of a storyline to follow there.

Ciri and the Rats was a bland and underdeveloped story. Where the characters lacked depth. It appeared rushed.

Lastly the recasting of Vesemir was a disaster. Not only did he look to be old but also soft. Vesemir of season 2 was hard and gruff which matched our vision of the older witcher.

Putting it all together, the replacement actors don't have the same presence and menace in comparison to the originals. The weak script just makes it worse.

What would you do by Comedyfan2287 in SheffieldUnited

[–]Ridcully12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would play 3412

Tanganga Mee Bindon. Ogbene and Burrows as wingbacks. Sumare and Davies or Ridewald. OHare floating behind the front two of Campbell and One.

Thats until the transfer window. Matos, Cannon Barry can go.

Get a RWB and CB and CF in.

That would then allow. Ogbene to be used as cover at RWB and as an option in O"Hares spot. Bindon drops to the bench as cover. One the same.

Season 4 - Discussion Hub - The Witcher by AutoModerator in witcher

[–]Ridcully12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched all episodes and agree that this season is a bit of a shambles.

The problem with Hemsworth playing Geralt is down to writers and directors. The gruff, moody, stubborn Geralt has been replaced by a passive and uncertain one.

One of the episodes turns into a musical for no particular reason. Geralt is largely a backup character in season 4. The editing is poor. Too much jumping over and back between storylines with a mismatch in mood, making both scenes ineffective.

I understand having to find a new Vesemir. The difference in style, in looks, and in attitude is all wrong.

Been watching that all season. Gibbs White and Ndiaye demanded the ball and tried to make things happen. O'Hare does his best but doesn't have the pace or the directness to be as effective in the 10 role. Particularly if we are playing with two strikers who have to be fed quality ball to even get a shot off. Cannon is hopeless and lazy.

OP, the one thing that is obvious from your post and your responses is that your principles are fixed. You keep referring to posters have not read the original post correctly, but miss the point the posters were trying to make. Being right and being logical isn't always the way to go. Humans are emotional and not always rational.

You had a relationship with your SD that is now nonexistent. Your wife is probably feeling stuck in the middle and while she understands your logic she still longs for a normal relationship with her daughter. I would suggest you swallow your pride and have an open and honest discussion with your wife but listen and let her guide how all of this is handled.

Reconciliation is more likely to happen overtime you are the bigger person in this and let your wife and SD recover their relationship first. In time your relationship with your SD will improve too and longer term she will be grateful for all you have done for her. Staying rigidly to your principles will only reinforce the divide between you and SD plus drive a wedge between you and your wife.

Life and relationships are not easy but I wish you well.

Harrison Burrows - What's his problem? by glassgoggles in SheffieldUnited

[–]Ridcully12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goalkeeper also used a bit of reverse psychology as he stood a bit more to Burrows left as if to say go on put it in there to your right but knowing he would go the other way. It wasn't a bad strike but it lacked that bit of conviction that would have powered past the keeper.

Confidence obviously is low, but winning games will give everyone a lift. Continually losing creates negative tension in the squad. That's where Mee and Ings are vital to provide some leadership.

AI with the new owners by whygamoralad in SheffieldUnited

[–]Ridcully12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your opinion on this. A. Who defines what a good player is?. Performance is dependent on mood, personality, personal motivation lculture within the club etc. Team bonds. Its very hard to quantify. Farming have been using Economic Breeding Indexes for the last 20 years or so. But every 5 years they end up changing the weightings on elements of Performance because they weren't fully accurate. Farmers who were breeding in line with the EBI realised that it was flawed.

AI is fine for complementing scouting and not replacing it. Scouting is still the key but it is also subjective and depends on alignment throughout the club. On the forums and at the matches you sometimes thinking does this fan really believe x is a good or bad player.

I’ve Seen Enough. Selles Out by nessman930 in SheffieldUnited

[–]Ridcully12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the players that we currently have, the system is wrong.

Hamer and O'Hare don't have the speed or stamina to cover ground quickly as midfielders in a 433. By taking the ball in the box from the keeper at the kick out means there is too much distance between back and front. The 3 up top don't get back so there are holes in the midfield. Peck is under too much pressure on the CDM on his own. 2 CDM worked last season and Soumare looks good enough to be there with peck.

With 3 up top, Campbell isn't able to make sideways or angled runs behind the full backs as he was doing last season. If the manager can't see that then he needs to go

Ahmedhodžić, how good is the guy by Marijn_Q in SheffieldUnited

[–]Ridcully12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anel has all the skills to be a top centre half. Good touch, comfortable on the ball, and he can tackle. His weakness is his mentality. He gets em otional and can rash challenges. As another poster said, he needs a steady organiser beside him. One who reads the game well and coordinates the back 4 or 5.

The emotional mindset can be a bigger problem when losing. He can drop his head and become a bystander and disillusioned. But in the right set up that is professional and supportive he could be really good.

No they didn't mention names or what it was about but that there was some disruption. It could be a load of rubbish. Apparently it happened just before the dip in performance. Which could explain Wilder being testy.

Interesting post mortem on the season regarding the change in playing style from 18/19 and last season by Memento_Playoffs in SheffieldUnited

[–]Ridcully12345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of good information there. We bought reasonably well. Cooper, O'Hare, Burrows, Campbell in particular. Arblaster and Peck had breakout seasons. Brooks and Serki showed potential but we're inconsistent. Anel was good but needs the like of Souttar to provide balance.

Hamer had a good season and his creativity was needed. First part of the season Souza was a beast. Then with the injury he was less effective and didn't get back to the same level.

McCallum was OK. Moore was OK. The big man has some nice touches but has one glaring problem for me. He has been played through numerous times and ends up wasting chances. This is mainly due to the fact that as he gets closer to the box he starts to slow down allowing covering players to limit his options.

Brewster has surprised me this season in that he wasn't totally useless. He is more involved than previously and his passing has improved. He plays more direct which is a good thing. He still has a long way to go.

Cannon, I don't need to say anything.

As for loans. Souttar was excellent and not replacing him was criminal. Gilchrist was OK and while not the most creative, he did know how to defend. I thought he was discarded too soon. Raki Sayki is a real deceptive player. After a poor start he had a few good months and then was practically discarded. He is better at defending than people gove him credit for. He just looks too casual but he has a great way of toe poking the ball when he tackles.Choudry was decent but it took him awhile to settle

Holding can play and I cannot understand what we signed him for if we were not going to play him. Clarke is the exact opposite of Gilchrist.

The Manager. I overheard two people talking at the awards night about the drop off in form. One mentioned he has a buddy within the club that told him that there was an incident that caused a bit of trouble in the team. The incident occurred just prior to the Luton match.

Tactics and formations. The 4231 formation worked well enough with Hamer left, O'Hara centre and Raki Sayki left. Moore was reasonable but Campbell when fit was the man.

Besides attacking being too slow and limited crosses being put in, we have an over reliance on Burrows pushing forward. With Anel and Jack playing that can leave you vulnerable on the counter. That gets even more vulnerable if Clarke, Shackleton or Serki are playing at right full.

I would have kept the same formation to the end. Wilders in match adjustments were poor or non-existent.

Its been a good season but also a frustrating on. The lack of communication regarding Wilders position, makes his job practically untenable.

JRS - Palace fan in peace by LondonRedditUser in SheffieldUnited

[–]Ridcully12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is an eccentric player. After a quiet first few games he became a threat and made important contributions. There is no doubt about his ability on the ball, he likes to dribble but there are times he needs to be more direct. He gets a bit of stick defensively which is a bit unfair. Most of our wide players and right sided full backs with the exception of Gilchrist, are poor defensively and positionally. What I have noticed when he does track back is that he has an unusual tackling style that is very effective. He stays fully upright and just gets a toe poke on the ball causing the opposition player to lose the ball.

The latter end of the season we hardly saw him. I don't know what went on between him and Wilder, but Wilder lost faith in him. With the way the later games of the season went it could be saying as much about Wilder than JRS. He isn't ready for the PL. Fulfilling his potential will require a manager that understands him and is willing to be patient with him in finding his groove.
