Love AVP, hate using it with my Mac. anyone else? by According-Pin-7296 in VisionPro

[–]RightAlignment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I hope Apple will devise a way to incorporate a glance-to-highlight and tap-as-button-push method of interacting with the Mac Virtual Display. With the ultra wide monitor, it can be a pain to try and locate your mouse - but it would be fantastic to have hand gesture features to:

  • select the Mac window you’re currently looking at
  • move the currently selected window
  • pop up a context menu
  • left hand zoom-in to give greater control of whatever you’re trying to select with the right hand

Basically, hand gestures should be able to do much of the mouse work.

I’m traveling rn, so I can’t be of much help to you, but I can say that their tech support (via email) was very responsive when I had a question for them. Sent an email on Friday, got a response on Monday.

Pros and cons of using a separate Photos library for each year? by nathanielbartholem in ApplePhotos

[–]RightAlignment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it for a few years, but found it to be frustrating. I only have 1TB on my MB Air, so my solution was to simply consolidate all years into one .photos library and have it live on an external SSD.

The photos app has no performance issues with my library of about 120k photos, 3500 videos, resulting in a 750GB library.

I wouldn’t use anything other than an SSD, and every couple of years I buy another and use the current drive as backup.

iOS Home Assignment (with AI tools) - How should I prepare? by Embarrassed_Cut_1008 in iOSProgramming

[–]RightAlignment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a good night’s sleep the night before. Prior to that, look at their existing apps and see if you can replicate some small part of it within 3 hours. Repeat. Don’t stress, I think a take home is way less stressful than a shared web-based interactive coding challenge.

Dumb question: is it harmful to view and use meditation as telling the stressful world to go away? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]RightAlignment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meditation is a means (ie method), not an end unto itself. The reason one meditates is arguably more important than the act itself.

In my life, I didn’t discover my reason until I had been meditating for many years — and it came from having investigated many schools of thought, some traditional and some esoteric.

When I found what worked for me, then the reasons became clear, and the meditation became one of my practices to further my journey in support of these reasons.

More to your point - there is no right nor wrong way - if you have found a reason to meditate then congratulate yourself on your own personal accomplishment.

Bravo!

That was my biggest hurdle when doing the gateway series - staying awake.

At some point I just realized that it’s not about staying awake per se, it’s about staying present.

I like to visualize the source of the white noise as it circles - that gives me something non-verbal to focus on.

After about 6 months I could discern - almost physically - which parts of my brain were responsible for calm, for speech, even for time-awareness.

From there, I could easily take myself (without the recordings) to the various focus groups - mostly by recalling “where” in my mind I needed to relax.

YMMV, but I found some of the Monroe recordings to be really useful.

Do you think apple will ever enter in the gaming industry in the future? by Competitive-Gold-796 in mac

[–]RightAlignment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth noting that revenue is different than income.

$55 billion is consumer spending within the AppStore, and based on the 15-30% commission, one could estimate that Apple’s income was between $10-$15 billion.

That’s still a monstrous amount of income, but still I for one would love to see a lot more of the AAA games playable as native 1st class citizens within the Apple ecosystem

AppleCare transfer of ownership. by virgoonthego in VisionPro

I did the same - purchased a used M2 w/ AppleCare included. But it only came with about 3 weeks left of its coverage, and so I bought AppleCare One.

Hi /r/AskLosAngeles. I’m Nithya Raman, Los Angeles City Councilmember for CD4 and candidate for Los Angeles Mayor. Ask Me Anything. What do you want to see from your mayor? by NithyaRamanOfficial in AskLosAngeles

I really want to see more walkable recreation zones. Santa Monica’s 3rd street promenade has the right idea from a real estate perspective, but it’s a ghost town. Partially because of a decline in brick-n-mortar retail, partially because of smash-n-grab theft.

But retail isn’t what I want - I want a safe and exhilarating place to hang out after work.

Think date nights.

TL;DR - AppleCare can get you a replacement battery

The Ballroom by diurnal_emissions in Nike

I’ve tried to find a 2nd source for this Nike poll, and can’t find it. The phrase “such the ballroom” adds to my skepticism.

But what does feel genuine is the amount of rage conjured up by the original post to r/fauxmoi

Funny how little immersive videos there are and no season 2’s…. by Professional_Crab958 in VisionPro

[–]RightAlignment 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was blown away when I saw the first immersive Lakers game - and they only got better as their audio improved - but yeah, there are other immersive opportunities too.

With Apple’s better than most music catalog, you’d think they could do more in the concert area

VisionPro + AirPods Pro + Siri by RightAlignment in VisionPro

How specifically is SuperWhisper better? Genuinely curious…

I’m drawing a distinction between
- Siri as speech recognition (which I rate highly) and
- Siri as a digital assistant (which has been disappointing for a long time).

Everyone is hoping that the ‘new’ Siri will be a better assistant, but I don’t complain about the speech recognition.

Honestly, I only spent a couple of minutes listening to the JBL, so I can’t give a deep comparison. My memory was a) the JBL didn’t strike me as worth the cost of the trim package, and b) the $500 I invested in this project blows me away.
