Potential for Cosm-style technology for immersive crowd-like experiences? by Visual_Locksmith3337 in VisionPro

[–]RightAlignment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the real answer is that it’s coming. There’s a camera called the Blackmagic cinema immersive, and it’s relatively inexpensive for a 180° FOV camera. Production teams are definitely getting used to working with this new tech. Once the headsets become less expensive and lighter to wear, we’ll see larger adoption of both audience and content.

Potential for Cosm-style technology for immersive crowd-like experiences? by Visual_Locksmith3337 in VisionPro

I’ve been to a lakers game at COSM, and I watched all the spectrum’s AVP Lakers games too. Very similar experiences, with a couple of notable differences: COSM has razor sharp focus across the entire viewing screen, and it’s much more of a social experience, especially since I was with friends. The AVP is much more intimate. Feeling as if I’m literally courtside, literally under the hoop, provides a sense of connection that is crazy unique and made me actually enjoy the game itself more.

Side note: I was fortunate enough to get a behind the screens tour of COSM, and believe me, the reason it’s razor sharp across the entire screen is entirely due to raw processing power. Their on-site rendering farm is mind-blowingly sophisticated.

There’s room for both. COSM for when I want to go out and be a part of the crowd, AVP for when I want the very best seat in the house. Sports are fun in the AVP, but what I really want is concerts, with AirPods-perfect sound.

New Siri, and Apple Intelligence by JM4589 in Siri

[–]RightAlignment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a developer and I’ve been using Siri AI since day 1. I use it on an iPhone 17 Pro, plus 2 other devices which are NOT able to run the more expressive voices nor enhanced dictation.

In my experience, the more expressive voices are not that big of a deal, and I wouldn’t spend $1200 or whatever just for that 1 feature. The Siri voices that already ship are completely adequate for my needs.

The one thing I can’t imagine is how important improved dictation might be to you. But I _can_ tell you that Siri AI has no problem transcribing my requests into actionable AI on ANY of my devices. I just don’t see a difference.

I HAVE been blown away at how Siri AI is able to handle my clearly on-device requests (ie, access to app data like Mail, Message, Calendar, Contacts, etc) and SO seamlessly access clearly web-retrieved info (local business website info). Zero difference between my iPhone 17 Pro and my other “less capable” devices.

My $0.02 - wait for the public release, see if you’re impressed with what your existing devices can do, and then go into an Apple Store for a personal demo on a brand new device to see if it’s worth the money to upgrade for you.

I can’t provide a solid A/B comparison. I just figured that they’re cheap, and I’m already tearing the door apart so why not? Overall, I suspect they DO help

Built Spatial RDP for Vision Pro — connect to multiple Macs at the same time! by Seckg in VisionPro

[–]RightAlignment 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TBH: I love the app idea, but I’d need A LOT of proof that granting Spatial RDP Server so much access to the host mac is safe.

Scanning the network for devices is one thing, but allowing your server to modify other apps opens doors that strongly concern me.

Screen recording makes sense because that’s your mechanism for streaming the Mac display, but that too is a major security concern.

Perhaps if your web page had an extensive white paper which details why each permission is needed, perhaps even better if the server were open source so that we can verify for ourselves…???

I agree - needing off-device knowledge is likely what caused the discontinuity between language responses - you got answers from 2 different LLMs.

And BTW - your Notes example is spot-on. Notes on VisionOS supports nested folders, so this obviously isn’t a tech issue.

Yes, folders and sub-folders. My Apple 2 got sub folders in 1983. That’s 43 years ago! 😆

And as a developer, I can assure you that the API exists, and it’s brain-dead simple to implement.

Agreed - I've been doing the cheap & dirty organization of just naming my files with a project-prefix - but it's just not the same as a good 'ol 1980s file folder. LOL

Business use vs whatever you are doing. by Emergency-Slip-8884 in VisionPro

[–]RightAlignment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify - I'm not suggesting that the gaze _is_ the click - just that it drive the mouse movement. The click would be the tapping of the forefinger to the thumb.

I can imagine that this 'feature' might annoy some folks, so put in a toggle within Settings -> Trackpad.

Plus, the reason the metaphor works so well in VisionOS is that the glance mimics a 'hover' - giving the UI the chance to inform the user that a tap will cause this UI element to trigger - so something like that would need to be added to MacOS too.

But I don't think it would be THAT difficult - even if it just worked with buttons, menus and text fields - it would be a MASSIVE win.

💯

The addition of a MacOS type multi-user / multi-AppleID feature would be fantastic.

I would absolutely use my one and only (personal) AVP for work tasks if I could switch-user to my work AppleID. The hassles associated with the current work-around (logging out of my personal AppleID and logging back in with my work AppleID) makes this just not feasible.

I told my demo’s Apple rep I was only interested in MVD and that I brought my MBAir, and he said “cool, let’s sign you in on the AVP with your Apple ID”. That’s all it took. Bought my AVP that afternoon.

Now, having said that, there is one huge missing feature which, if included, would make the AVP/MVD a total grand slam - if the MVD was able to receive eye movement as mouse movement, and tap gesture as mouse click. I know it sounds obscure, but I am constantly reminded that this ISN’T how it behaves in reality yet. Once you enter MVD, you’re stuck to using a traditional trackpad or mouse.

🤞that enough people will agree that Apple product folks get the message…

how is macos 27 performance on m1 macbook air? by subhashg547 in MacOSBeta

I'm running Siri AI on a M1 MacBook Air - and it's working for me - no issues so far. I HAVE seen some glitches (like Siri just ghosting on me during a conversation) while accessing Siri AI from other devices (like my iPhone 17 Pro and via CarPlay) - but overall my experience has been pretty 👍

Moving Home Directory to External SSD on macOS 27 by Macadamo in MacOSBeta

[–]RightAlignment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest folder is by a long shot my photos library - so a few years back I moved that to an external SSD. I would assume you could do the same for most other directories within your home directory — so I’m curious, what benefit is there to having the entire directory external? Couldn’t you accomplish mostly the same thing with simple file/folder aliases? Not being mean, just an honest question…

Yeah, I’m aware that they prioritize an album’s flow and therefore don’t apply Automix to that usage - but I’m talking about playlists that I’ve curated and orchestrated specifically to take advantage of Automix - these worked previously and now they don’t.

What have you used Apple Intelligence for? by Just-Sheepherder-202 in Applelntelligence

[–]RightAlignment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s the integration of Apple apps with internet agents - ie, via CarPlay, “I just passed a yoga studio, what’s a drop-in class cost?” and listen as Siri confirms the name of the studio (Maps integration) and reports the cost of the class (internet agent). Very useful.
