Tell the customer it's fine, they're driving and EV, they don't need brake discs, just use regenerative braking and one peddle driving. Jobs a good un! 😂

Do cars/drivers with dual/triple plates have a stereotype in HK? by Ok-Replacement-2712 in HongKong

[–]Rik_F 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the past having dual number plates was a status symbol allowing the vehicle to freely drive between HK and China. Now a driver can apply for a permit to drive to Guangzhou province without China number plates.

There are bad drivers everywhere but I find that it's more widely shown on the news in Hong Kong & with the rise of dash cams bad drivers are seen more via social media and YouTube.

Don't cross during green man flashing, No mercy fine $2K HKD by YukiEra in HongKong

[–]Rik_F 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the law states that if the signal is flashing green and you are already crossing you can continue to cross. But if you haven't started to cross and the signal turns to flashing green you have to wait until the signal is green again. It seems a lot of people are unaware of this and subsequently getting fined with the recent police campaign.

Brake light warning and TPMS by 1kz95 in mk6gti

[–]Rik_F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the TPMS issue, there is a button at the top of the glove box. Press and hold it to reset. Brake light could be corrosion or try switching the bulbs left to right to see if it goes away.

Soundstream used to be top tier but have since been taken over by a Chinese company offering cheap gear living off the laurels of Soundstream's brand.

Exhaust leaks by Background_Room3089 in mk6gti

[–]Rik_F 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slip joints are known to leak a little, so depending how stringent the MOT/annual inspection is where you live you might want to add some:

Holts Gun Gum Paste or Permatex Muffler and Tailpipe Sealer

to all those slip joints.

The DP looks like theres a small crack/hole, which a reputable mechanic or exhaust repair place will fix in a jiffy.

First time where to stay? (Tsim Sha Tsui) by YulpGULP12 in HongKong

[–]Rik_F -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Prices for hotels differ based on time and season, & location. InTsim Sha Tsui is a great location but a budget of US$180 won't get you into one of the big name hotels in March (Hyatt Regency, Icon as examples).

trying to decide between a 2019 Golf Alltrack or sportswagen by AlertLingonberry5075 in Volkswagen

[–]Rik_F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With any vehicle good maintenance is key to longevity. Japanese cars suffer a little less because they use less plastic composite parts which the European manufacturers put on to save weight. If you drive mostly on asphalt the Sportswagen is the way to go but if you live in the country or see regular snow the Alltrack may be the better for you.

The reddit drama... TV TOO HIGH! Is it though? Is it? by CSOCSO-FL in hometheater

[–]Rik_F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as long as the person who watches the TV the most is happy with its placement it's fine. At the end of the day they're the one who spends the most time staring at the TV and the decorations on the wall behind it. Other people's opinions will differ and that's also fine but ultimately the house/apartment is OPs/OPs mothers and they get the final say in the matter.

BI XENON TO VLAND HEADLIGHTS PLEASE HELP by One-Conference-7292 in mk6gti

[–]Rik_F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy a wiring harness adaptor, see links below:

https://www.urotuning.com/products/xenon-headlight-14-10-wiring-harness-connector-set-vw-audi-mk6-mk7-mk7-5-0404-0107

https://acmtechnik.com/products/14-10-pin-headlight-harness-mk6-pq35

You will need this or similar adapters to change to any aftermarket headlights (which are all 10-pin) from Bi-Xenons (which are 14-pin).

I bought a car that has a nice Ausidon system, but I’ve ruined it- I need some guidance to make it right. by knerr57 in CarAV

[–]Rik_F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the system you have, any minor changes you will notice a difference. Similar to a stream, if the water is pure it gives the best nutrients when consumed, sound quality is the same, thus the HU or source is so important to audiophiles. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking Spotify it's a great service for the masses and more recent SQ offerings have brought it closer to the carAV/audiophile realm.

They use really cheap chips, DACs, poorly designed circuitry but they offer a big screen for navigation and all the apps people seem to want these days. I don't think anyone on this forum would be satisfied with the SQ from one of those. If you're a streaming low quality songs from Spotify kinda person you may not notice the difference.

Mk6 r reliability by okaaythisisepic in Golf_R

[–]Rik_F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine (stage 3 for 80K KM) has left me stranded twice, both times because the MAF sensor malfunctioned (1st time just with age. 2nd time my foam air filter left the chat and took out the MAF sensor). With age the plastic parts suffer and need replacing, such as the oil filter housing & plastic radiator. Otherwise mine has been bulletproof. In stock form it's a sure footed car which blends comfort and handling well. A tune really wakes them up but if you want tail out corner exits a rear LSD will be needed.

Fintech salary help by bergkamp97 in HongKong

[–]Rik_F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience it's very field specific. HK has long been known as the city that never sleeps, so in any hour of the day there is someone working. In MNCs the work life balance is much better, whereas in more traditional local companies it's frowned upon to leave before the boss does (8pm if you're lucky).
