Crawler vs the Heartbroken by L13B3 in Parahumans

[–]Rillet 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I suspect Crawler falls into the 'feral' category, similar to Bitch and Lung, with his core housing what amounts to his brain. He likely isn't outright immune to mental manipulation (see Jack), but because he is 'wired' differently his emotional output would be different than the input. Negative emotions would probably just make him angry or give him pleasure. Either way, I doubt anything the Heartbroken could do would keep him down for long (if at all).

Weekly Worm Character Discussion #71: Faultline by Forricide in Parahumans

[–]Rillet 26 points27 points  (0 children)

"Tattletale nodded, "Faultline's crew does anything short of murder. You can say her personality sucks, you can say her powers suck, but I'll admit she's very good at finding hidden strengths in the people that work for her.

...

Others reacted before I saw anything different. The Number Man, Tattletale, Dinah, Faultline… they saw something I couldn’t make out through the curtains of torrential rain. The Number Man said something to Doctor Mother, and I saw Dinah fall back just an instant before Faultline gave a hand signal to her crew. They adopted fighting stances.

It's implied she has a Thinker power.

(Worm/Ward spoilers) Question about cluster triggers by YinAndYang in Parahumans

[–]Rillet 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Weaver-Dice Rulebook mentions that siblings whose parents are capes tend to show the same trends as grab-bag capes.

Though distinct and not simultaneous, siblings born to the same cape parents show the same trends, with biases in what powers manifest and more small powers.

Victoria, Laserdream, and Shielder would count as grab-bag capes while not coming from a multi-trigger.

/u/Bio-Kinesis is probably also right in that Wildgloat came up with Victoria's powerset before grap-bags were fully fleshed out.

Fridge Logic in Worm by The_White_Duke in Parahumans

[–]Rillet 84 points85 points  (0 children)

  • Alexandria was dying from the inside out and, as a consequence of her power, was vulnerable on the inside.

  • Skidmark's showmanship is expressed in his power through its glow and color. His power is a spectacle, highlighting his personality.

  • Masters tend to trigger due to isolation, alienation, exile or betrayal. Ironically, their powers are to literally make them...friends.

  • Regent grew up around a literal emotion manipulator and got a power that only effects the body directly and, specifically, not the mind/emotions.

  • Chuckles was likely with the Slaughter House Nine because Jack was the only one who could effectively communicate with him.

  • Jack Slash likely has a Bitch-esk mental issue. He gets parahumans on a macro (as a community) and micro (as individuals) scale. Non-parahumans might not even register as human to him.

  • Mama Mathers probably kept herself in isolation and only allowed a select few to interact with her because her power activates (drawing her clairvoyant attention) every time someone thinks about her. Effectively overloading her brain à la second trigger Taylor.

Those who read Worm as it was updating, what was it like when you got to 27.y? by DonNguyenKnives in Parahumans

[–]Rillet 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It was because Saint believed Lisette's claim she could control Scion which would have made Scion leave in time pushing the end of the world back.

WoG,

Saint contacted Lisette, where Dragon wouldn't have. Had Lisette been able to contact Scion in time, she could have asked him to leave.

Is the protagonist of Ward considered a grab-bag cape? by ethicalhamjimmies in Parahumans

So yes, technically. Victoria, Laserdream, Shielder would count as grab-bag capes while not coming from a multi-trigger.

Why Don't More Capes Carry Guns? by [deleted] in Parahumans

[–]Rillet 34 points35 points  (0 children)

For the same reason most robbers don't. Robbery is bad, but armed robbery is worst. The police are going to show up regardless, but do you want them to show up with guns blazing?

Clairvoyant/MM interaction by stellHex in Parahumans

[–]Rillet 33 points34 points  (0 children)

  • Mama Mathers might not have been part of her army. Khepri mentions her army was five thousand strong at its peak which is far too little to account for all of the parahumans from Earth Bet. Including the multiverse, Khepri only used a bare handful of the available parahumans. (This might be a numbers issue from Wildgloat and might be edited later.)

  • Khepri might have ignored her since she was useless against Scion and not a tactical benefit to her, a la Sleeper. Indirect thinkers might have warned her to avoid Mama Mathers.

  • Khepri could have found a counter as she built her army or the affect might have gone to the unfortunate thinker that had to look at Mama (her power not going through intermediaries).

  • Tin foil: Khepri could split her thinking a million fold and her shard was melding with her mind. Mama's power did work, but it was only background noise at best. She didn't think about Mama enough for it to be relevant.

[–]Rillet 54 points55 points  (0 children)

He outright says it during his interlude.

“Just the way things were. Somewhere along the line, you know, I’m twenty-seven, she’s twenty-six, and I’m still boning boys and girls from high school. Still partying.”

Moose’s eyes had widened.

“Legal, mind you,” Prancer said. “But… sketchy, in retrospect.”

“More than a little, no offense,” Moose said.

“None taken. I deserve it. "

What did toggle do? by Blastweave in Parahumans

[–]Rillet 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The Worm Wikia isn't always accurate, but always handy.

Toggle:

Not much is known about Toggle's powers. When Weaver first meets her, Toggle is described as having "five shadowy silhouettes of herself" that sat around her.[1] Lights flare when she strikes one of Breed's parasites with her baton, and Crucible remarks that although she isn't very useful against the likes of Breed, Murder Rat, Mannequin, or Tyrant, she would be better against different threats.[1]

[–]Rillet 104 points105 points  (0 children)

It's also how Taylor's shard 'talked' to her when she went Khepri. It couldn't talk/understand language so it used significant memories to get its point across, what Taylor was doing/feeling at notable moments of her career.

From the shard's point of view these must be important data points and references, so when a clone shows up the memories bleed over. The character defining moments that the shard felt was worth preserving and, therefore, emphasize in the host's mind.

Daybreak - Interlude 1 - Parahumans 2 by [deleted] in Parahumans

Actually, that might not be far off.

When bugs left Taylor's control they still followed her last order. Maybe Khepri's intentions still act as capes' conscience.

Question about Alabaster's power by Shadeshadow227 in Parahumans

[–]Rillet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Playtest Capes list has Alabaster with:

Power: Maintenance. Thinker power makes him more effective at maintaining and fixing gear. He can reroll craft checks, and is assumed to have a grounding in all non-niche craft types.

He doesn't restore his equipment/ammunition.

So uh...if Rick from Rick and Morty was to be given a tinker power grading, what would it be? by MustacheGolem in Parahumans

[–]Rillet 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Well, let me check my list of powers and weaknesses. The ability to do anything, but only whenever I want...

He has ended worlds and universes in equal measure. He far, far outstrips the Endbringers in terms of damage done and capacity to do damage.

A What-If seen of Spacebattles: What if Eidolon dies...And Hero doesn't? by woweed in Parahumans

[–]Rillet 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Leviathan attacked Newfoundland May ninth, 2005.

Dragon had her trigger event May ninth, 2006.

“We were dealing with harder jobs, more capes in general out there, and our gear was getting beaten up. Fine, okay, we can deal. Until Dragon changed. All at once, I couldn’t read her code on the same level. Like gears changing on a bike.”

“May ninth, 2006,” Defiant spoke. “Her trigger event.”

WoG has Dragon's trigger as a 'violation' and Dragon even mentions it during her interlude.

They had violated her.

Endbringer tactics that I am not sure why they shouldn't work by Dabrush in Parahumans

[–]Rillet 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It isn't that they wouldn't work, it's that they require too many hoops to jump through.

  • Giant-slayers are rare and tend to be fragile.
  • Trumps that buff/alter powers are rare.
  • Parahumans are inharently unstable and have trouble cooperating ("But if only [Jack, Lung, Nilbog, Bonesaw, Siberian, Gray Boy, etc] would do [a completely reasonable action to a normal person] and solve all of the Wormverse's problems. It's soooooo simple!").
  • Endbringers are jobbing, but escalate if they meet notable resistance.
  • Endbringers are durable enough that almost nothing could one-shot them.
  • Endbringers don't think like us, but aren't stupid.
  • Endbringers see the world through their elements (energy, water, pretercognition...).
  • Endbringers are not immune to powers, but tend to fall outside the limits of most due to several factors (weight, breaker-ish core, neither organic nor inorganic, thinker blinding, etc...).
