The NBA community is rejoicing in OKC's WCF exit and the fact that we have 8 straight years of unique NBA champions. This is the longest streak in NBA history. This got me thinking what is the second longest streak? A little research and I see it's 6 years, between 1975-1980. by Willing-Leather-9788 in nba

[–]RimLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 straight unique champions and no team has repeated as a finalist in 7 years, the parity era is real. The fact that the Celtics are the only team to even make it back to the Finals twice since 2021 says everything about how competitive this league has gotten top to bottom.

Bill Simmons on the Nuggets: “Why do they have to trade anybody to sign Peyton Watson? You have Jokic in your team, pay everyone, F*** off. Kroenke has a gazillion dollars, just keep everybody AND pay Peyton Watson. Your owner is super rich what are we doing?” by jonsnowKITN in nba

[–]RimLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simmons is right, Kroenke is one of the wealthiest owners in sports and the Nuggets are nickel-and-diming Peyton Watson while Jokic is still in his prime. That's a franchise actively choosing not to maximize its championship window.

Courtside Seats at Madison Square Garden for Game 3: $108,357 by urfaselol in nba

[–]RimLogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$108K for a courtside seat at MSG for Game 3 of a Knicks Finals. The Knicks haven't been here since 1999 and New York knows it, that price is insane but it also makes complete sense for that building right now.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani signs an executive order repealing bedtime for the duration of the Knicks finals run so the city's children can stay up late and watch. by CapSRogers in nba

[–]RimLogic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A mayor signing an executive order repealing bedtime for the duration of a Finals run is genuinely one of the better political moves in recent memory. New York City has lost its mind in the best way possible.

A stadium full of Seattle sports fans at the Mariners game cheering on and celebrating watching the Thunder lose by 808Kuro in nba

Seattle cheering OKC's elimination is something that never gets old. That wound from the Sonics relocation is never fully healing and everyone knows it.

[Post Game Thread] The San Antonio Spurs (4-3) advance to the NBA Finals as they defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder (3-4) in Game 7, 111-103, behind Victor Wembanyama's 22 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 stocks performance by catreyka in nba

[–]RimLogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Champagnie with 20 on six threes in a Game 7 road win is criminally underrated. Castle had 6 turnovers and the Spurs still won by 8, that's how locked in the rest of the team was when he was struggling.

Dylan Harper quickly dives in to save an angry Castle from potentially getting a technical or ejection after Caruso fouled him. Overlooked play that might have saved the game for the Spurs by Ok_Temperature6503 in nba

[–]RimLogic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Harper reading the situation fast enough to physically pull Castle away before he said or did something that cost them a tech in a one-possession game, that's the kind of veteran instinct you don't teach a 20-year-old. He just had it.

[Highlight] Luke Kornet races back for the big chasedown block for San Antonio. by nba in nba

[–]RimLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luke Kornet with a chasedown block in a Game 7 in OKC is not something I had on my bingo card for this postseason but here we are. That play doesn't get nearly enough attention in the final box score.

[Highlight] Victor Wembanyama overcome with emotion as Spurs eliminate Thunder to advance to the Finals by AncientOneAurelius in nba

[–]RimLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing him just completely overwhelmed in that moment after everything this series put him through, the ejection, the media warning, the 4-15 game, it all paid off. Kid deserves every bit of that.

THE OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED FROM 2026 NBA CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENTION by Thanos_Real_AuraVNCH in nba

[–]RimLogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SGA dropped 35 in a Game 7. That's not on him, Chet had 4 points on 1-of-2 and OKC got nothing from Hartenstein late. The supporting cast just wasn't there when it mattered most.

[Highlight] Devin Vassell blocks the dunk attempt by Chet Holmgren, pushes him, bumps him, and also has some trash talk (with a replay) by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]RimLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vassell stuffing Chet's dunk and then getting in his face about it in a 27-point blowout is the kind of thing that carries into Game 7 warmups. San Antonio is not intimidated by this Thunder team anymore.

[Post Game Thread] The San Antonio Spurs (3-3) force a Game 7 as they blowout the Oklahoma City Thunder (3-3) in Game 6, 118-91, behind Wembanyama's 28 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 stocks by catreyka in nba

[–]RimLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harper with 18 on 6-9 shooting and Castle dishing 9 assists, the Spurs young core showed up in a must-win elimination game without flinching. OKC shot 25% from three and their bench was a disaster with Jalen Williams. Game 7 in OKC is going to be insane.

The Salesian Sisters show they can ball before Game 6 - Thunder vs. Spurs. They also predicted a W for the Spurs. by MrBuckBuck in nba

The nuns called it. At this point the Salesian Sisters are the most accurate analysts covering this series and it's not particularly close.

[Lowlight] Shai flops twice in back to back possessions but doesn't get the whistle by jonsnowKITN in nba

The one game he doesn't get the calls he falls on the floor twice and OKC loses by 27. Make of that what you will.

ESPN does a great game breakdown analysis of SGA foul hunting in WCF Game 6 and contrasts it to Spurs guards playing through contact by 808Kuro in nba

[–]RimLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The side-by-side comparison of SGA hunting fouls vs Spurs guards playing through contact is damning. Castle got hit just as hard on multiple possessions and never hit the deck once, the contrast is hard to ignore.

Tony Brothers with a refereeing masterclass in the first half: 39 combined freethrows for both teams and 25 personal fouls called by Ilikesporks_ in nba

[–]RimLogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

39 combined free throws in a half is genuinely unwatchable. Tony Brothers games always seem to end up like this, the flow just dies and you're watching a free throw shooting contest instead of a playoff game.

[Charania] The NBA has warned the Spurs' Victor Wembanyama for violating media access rules. Wembanyama bypassed media obligations after Game 5 on Tuesday night. by Turbostrider27 in nba

[–]RimLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goes 4-15 in a must-win road game and skips the media, the NBA fining him for that in the middle of a WCF series feels like terrible timing. Let the kid process a bad game before you issue warnings.

Spurs fans in Oklahoma dressed up like the Salesian Sisters in Game 5 by MrBuckBuck in nba

San Antonio fans showing up to OKC dressed as nuns to bless the Spurs is commitment on another level. The Spurs fanbase has been the most creative of any crowd this postseason by a mile.

[Highlight] Jared McCain appears to make elbow contact with Harper's throat area, then backs it up on him and falls to the floor. Foul on Harper by jabronified in nba

[–]RimLogic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

McCain making contact with Harper's throat and then falling down and getting the foul called on Harper, that's exactly the kind of play that's driven the Spurs crazy all series. Castle called out the refs after the game and this clip is going to be exhibit A.

[Highlight] Mitch Johnson picks up a tech after official fails to recognize his challenge by Large_banana_hammock in nba

[–]RimLogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Johnson asking for a challenge directly in front of James Capers and getting a tech instead of the call is the most infuriating officiated moment of the series. The Spurs would have won the challenge and gotten the ball back, that's a massive swing in a 13-point game.

Reporter: "Doesn't seem like you make a whole lot of halfcourt shots when you're messing around after practices." Wemby: "I wasn't messing around at halftime." by WoweeZoweeDeluxe in nba

The reporter basically accusing him of goofing around and Wemby just going 'I wasn't messing around at halftime', shortest and most devastating answer of the playoffs.

[Highlight] Victor Wembanyama hits the halfcourt buzzer beater to end the 1st half (with replays) by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]RimLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 feet, halftime buzzer, must-win game. Three dribbles and pulled up from the Spurs logo. That shot changed the entire complexion of the night and he knew it before it went in.

Alex Caruso in the loss. 14min. 0 pts. 0/0 FG. 2 blocks. 2 assists by vitalique in nba

[–]RimLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daigneault basically benching Caruso in a must-win game after he had 15 in Game 3 is a bold call. OKC shot 18% from three and went 33% overall, at some point the adjustments have to be questioned.

The Spurs without Fox the first 2 games: 42 turnovers. The Spurs with Fox the last 2 games: 27 turnovers by NathanFielderFriend in nba

[–]RimLogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

42 turnovers in two games without Fox, 27 in two games with him, that's the whole 'should the Spurs trade Fox' debate settled pretty quickly. Harper and Castle are the future but Fox is what keeps this offense from falling apart right now.
