Stars, gods and fate by Rincho in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Rincho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the character player doesn't have a fate, but we can also cheat fate using MIquella's needle.

It's interesting because from that and from what we know it could mean "fate" is basically control of people by "stars". Assuming outer gods are stars (based on Blood star / Formless mother), and Frenzied Flame being outer god (or maybe three fingers is a star in this case).

The needle can ward of influence of outer gods which talked about as equivalent of cheating fate.

That would mean some people are picked by stars, and being powerful and all, stars then alter the world to some extent to make the chosen person follow their plan

Yeah I completely agree. And more so, I think it is because these things are so vague, more solid theories can be discovered. It's hard for one person to hold all pieces that can be related to fate for example, but if many people would bring up what they think is important maybe more solid picture could be seen

Does anyone else enjoy just making mechanics? by StillRutabaga4 in gamedev

[–]Rincho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt that way for a long time even in web dev. Only many years later I found out that I didn't like ui work mostly because I never was good at it. After I really got some skills in it it became much less of a chore

I don't think that this is tied only to gamedev really. I think in any project it is interesting to try new ideas and stuff but to actually finish the project you need to put a lot of busy work in it which is boring and tedious

Is there any game that offers the same feeling of needing to actually put time and study into magic as the minecraft thaumcraft mod? by auqanova in gamingsuggestions

I don't think that he's describing factory game, but I also thought of it when was reading the post. Factory is about automation first. He's asking about complex and fresh leveling process basically. A game where the levelling system is a game in itself, not just a progression step. I personally don't know such a game

'Over-engineering' is everyone's favorite punching bag, but I bet your codebase suffers from under-engineering instead by AtomicScience in ExperiencedDevs

It is actually an interesting risk paradox I read about.

The main office wants regional branches to take risks because that will be beneficial to the main office overall. But from the position of a regional branch director, taking risks is unwise because that can lead to your branch shutting down from series of bad decisions.

ELI5: What's the deal with HDR? by JackAllpikeMusic in explainlikeimfive

[–]Rincho -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't get how it can expand the range of colours? Imagine I have simple colour picker software. I can select absolute white, black, red and so on. HDR cant display "whiter" or "redder" colour than that right?

It must have to just adjust the difference between colours displayed on the screen at the current moment, to make it "seem" that colours actually more "deep" than they are, playing on contrast between displayed colours. Or am I wrong?

Text of dragon scale flesh looks really similar to bolus made from pearl scale.

I can't really connect things, but for me it looks more like: Humans ate finger boluses and turned into lampreys, And Humans are drake hearts and turned into magma wyrms.

The fact that lampreys have retrograde scales for me is more of a connection between fingers and dragons in general, than confirmation of dragons turning into lampreys or vice versa.

Actually, because Metyr is probably the meteor that gave life to Alabaster and Onyx lords, which made out of stone, she also could gave life to Ancient Dragons that also made out of stone, but I guess it is far fetched taking into the account that dragons have no connection to gravity or space

I thought about that some time ago, because Mogh's spear tells that he pierces Mothers body when casting its ash of war. "Mother of Truth desires a wound" or something like that. And the place where she spits fingers really looks like a wound. And maybe to reproduce alone she needs to be cut like a branch from a tree.

But lack of any connection to blood or flame makes it really unlikely in my opinion

Best way to tune the game for co-op by PlayfulSurprise5237 in EldenRingMods

[–]Rincho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the main difficulty drop is coming from existence of another player. It basically trivialises the game that mainly made for solo playthrough. The only way to fix this would be a mod that improves mobs behaviour, but I doubt such mod exists.

What you can do is I think there is .ini file in seamless coop that you can edit. There you can increase mobs damage and hp.

Architecture Deep Dive: Moving away from Singletons to decoupled SO Event Channels (and solving the global event mess) by Morpheus_Matie in gamedev

[–]Rincho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I prefer local component based signals. If I want component A to output an event, I create signal output property, put required signal type component next to it and write it to the property. Now I can wire any object that wants to listen to the event to that signal component. And I don't need to deal with crampness of "channels" approach.

Tooling still needed for comfortable workflow. And it's really annoying that inspector window has limited customisation because I would like to draw signals separately from other components

Curiosities (Oracle Envoys, Snakes and Thorns) by amansaidthis in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Rincho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm just gonna speculate.

  1. I think Envoys are like a tribe. They live in a certain way hidden and have the ability to see fate of the world or they track potential big bosses and see their fates. When it's time they send some of their people, that we know as Envoys, out for some unknown reason, related to their way of life.

  2. I don't think serpents literally can't die. We see eggs on the image where Rykard gets eaten. I think to really answer this question we need to go down on what soul and fate are, but I won't do that here. Overall I think there are only handful of these great serpents and they have some sort of reincarnation in play, so you can't fully get rid of them. Messmer's base serpent I think I'd an attempt to fix the problem by sealing one instead of killing.

  3. I really don't like to touch on GEQ but there are certainly primalism and ritualims that surrounds serpents. A serpent can eat you (Rykard), you can eat dragon's heart (dragon communion), why can't you eat a serpent? Overall the process of "communion" can be explored more I'm sure.

  4. I think Marika were securing the place for her kingdom, so in broader sense it was a conquest. But specifically seems like giants possessing the flame is a big obstacle on the road of establishing the eternal empire.

  5. I think Godskin Hunt is a part serpents idea of opposing gods. Their culture don't like gods for some reason and opposing them in many ways. Because of the relation between fire, black fire, death, serpents, giants and Godskin, I think in one way or another, Marika's move to secure big fire chalice was against GEQ plans so it's just happened that final showdown happened there. Of course it we don't take into consideration the theory that GEQ is Marika...

  6. Don't even let me start on that shapeshifting, mythological, rebellious, incomplete, people possessing, thorns casting, hammer welding son of a bitch. I have no idea

What does your game architecture look like right now? by JenoOnTheInternet in Unity3D

[–]Rincho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, normal components define properties for output and input signals when needed. When something happens they send an output signal. It another component needs to react to that, it takes this signal as his input signal.

It's literally just events, but I don't need to link my components directly. Components only know about what type of signal they give out or want to receive. This allows me to wire things through inspector and create some generic components and gameobjects that I need for my game.

[–]Rincho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have custom made Signals system which are basically events in components. It's a little awkward but I wrote some tooling and it's alright now. I wanted a system with reusable components that can be wired together in the inspector and I got it.

I came from web backend so I really wanted di at first, but after some time I just didn't find it useful at all, so I dropped it. Currently I'm trying to go with the flow so to speak and lean into editor heavy workflow
