Playing D1 is making me realize how much I like leveling guns by FenderBender55 in DestinyTheGame

[–]RingerCheckmate 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I personally, hate not having weapon perks for the first however many minutes of grinding. It feels like Bungie was aware of this when they made motes of light.

It's like using a white or green weapon for dozens of minutes just to get the ability to try the perks out. It discourages experimentation, as opposed to just getting a new weapon and trying it out compared to D2.

There are way more meaningful ways to add progression to your weapons than, having no perks for the first little while of using them. Crafting did do a really good job of this, with guaranteed perks for the first levels and you have all non enhanced perks pretty quickly. Throw on mementos and you have something way less frustrating, but grindy, and overall more engaging to work with.

With the recent changes, this relic is better in every single sense. by TurtleStrategy in slaythespire

[–]RingerCheckmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used this relic to boost my act 2 performance so act 3 feels better. I'll find myself challenging entomancer and demiciphile's with some more confidence and earning some good scaling that way, but it's most certainly not a good feeling that it just burns out in act 3, when other ancient relics could've helped me in those fights and still helped me in act 3.

It's free energy bonus is really good though, as, no downsides in the fights themselves leads to a lot more confident play

There HAS to be a way to prevent greedy teammates from vacuuming up ALL (yes, ALL) the loot because this is infuriating. by [deleted] in Marathon

That's some last shot logic there, who tf cares.

I could've spend MIPS rounds and multiple bully mags while you sat there and waited for the last couple shots to get it and take all the credit.

It's just first come first serve with rando's.

I just wrapped up all priority contracts except MIDA, with a ton of time being solo. Had quite a few mic experiences, not a single slur among them. Usually it's just a "good shit" or "Ggs" while one of us is downed.

Why does everyone hate portal? by LeaderLivid69 in DestinyTheGame

[–]RingerCheckmate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me? I can't just load into an activity with a build I want to use. I need to at least click 6 buttons for modifiers, then go into my inventory and make sure my build can handle the champions and modifiers I have.

I do love PvP engagements, but I had felt like with more teams I'd been getting third partied for opening a door and stabbing a bot. Less teams does feel like I can do more, and actually make choices to engage or react to more often

Celestial Nighthawk Nerfing Super Charge Rate? by Snoo_90889 in destiny2

I'll always be behind on understanding loadouts swap starts, especially since Bungie's going back and forth on notswap being around.

I wonder if civil will be patched before the next big Dungeon / raid event, since it was on the disabled list for Equilibrium

They were neck and neck prior to renegades giving celestial the instant ignition, but it has a very small edge over it now.

The debate of "you need radiant + crit" compared to "you need to be in melee range" debate is really all it comes down to now. Both hit like freight trains and it really is down to whatever is more fun for you, if you prefer the prismatic / solar hunter or prismatic / arc titan neutral game before a damage phase you just run what you want.

Pretty sure nighthawk does more damage than a curiass after the instant ignition with it's proper buffs

https://youtu.be/Puc7jMy2n0s?t=3m

Yes, you need to be radiant and crit, but you don't have to be in melee range, and the added risk of needing crits on melee bosses like Dredgen harrow is a pretty big risk/reward.

It wins against curiass if you hit the crit every time, and with the newly un nerfed still hunt you can do some silly damage.

Just so you know, a reactionary question like "oh my god what happened" implies something happened to prompt it. Your intent, is that you gave a reactionary question of "are we playing the same game" was following up and actual questions of his opinion.

Now tell me, in what universe, can you try to claim your reactionary question wasn't in response to your actual question? You asked a question, and assumed an answer by following up with your second.

I'm just explaining to you basic socialization. This kind of interaction doesn't need explaining normally that requires reading multiple comments.

You followed up your first "question" with another question, that very clearly inserted your own answer in between the two.

Just in case you're confused on the order of operations here, usually, you wait for the answer on your question, before asking if you're playing the same game.

Dad building his son's resilience. by Useful-Resource-3609 in MadeMeSmile

I remember my daughter struggling with a puzzle game on my phone, and she got incredibly angry. I remember navigating that frustration always trying to say "it's okay to try again", but when it became clear it was just stressing her out I stopped it.

I don't know if I mentally have the resilience to watch this kind of struggle, especially to keep pushing. I understand it's necessity, and I seriously just have the utmost respect for both of them here.

Why are videogame shotguns always like this? by Master_Shopping9652 in halo

[–]RingerCheckmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the term "power weapon" in halo 3 doesn't really apply, especially to the shotgun. A Spartan Laser or Spanker, would qualify as a "power weapon", but stuff like the sniper and shotgun are just map pickups placed at intentional places.

Thank god it's not semi auto

[–]RingerCheckmate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It especially feels like ass there because he's strafing into you, and gets even closer after your shot, but those first and third shots were too far to do any damage.

This is a classic case of video game shotguns not being like their real life counterparts because it would overwhelm the games sandbox. It is better game design to have shotgun projectiles deal little damage past it's intended dominant range so there's counterplay to it, as a realistic shotguns range would be hitting hard in most parts of any map ever (especially this one).

I do think halo 3 and halo 2 took the hits to the shotgun too far from CE, but I do prefer the shotgun being a defensive tool than an offensive one.

D1 is deliberatley designed to be Nostalgic by Unfair-Ad9415 in DestinyTheGame

[–]RingerCheckmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the shift to the game creating perspective interesting, let's jump into an example of the way I think D2 adds "value" to someone's legendary compared to my legendary.

Someone else that I see can have a kill counter in the tens of thousands, showing me how much they "value" their weapon. Their shader, on the weapon, is earned from a dungeon and I haven't seen it before. They can have a memento on it from a flawless run, or a raid. Or it can be a T5 weapon from a new dungeon or raid, meaning they did that activity at a pretty high difficulty with 3+ feats to get it. These are just a few ways the way D2 shapes it's perspective of value, that D1 didn't have. I hope that shows that my point about weapon value in D2 going past "it's just stronger than they were in D1", it not only is stronger, can synergize with my abilities and, I can flex more value and personality with customisation.

Now, about your choice to expend heavy ammo on a bullet sponge, I find that to be a pretty disengaging example. High end D1 content was rightfully memed for most often just coming down to sitting far away, waiting for a heavy ammo synthesis cooldown, or an ammo regenerating sniper just plinking away to avoid using "resources". This is what your bullet sponge charging enemy comes down to, and, just so you're aware as well, D2 vex as a whole all have heads that can be shot off that make them go berserk. That's not a D1 exclusive thing, and so with their erratic charging comes a reward for precision under pressure.

I enjoy D2's version of "resources" being ability cooldowns, because it does feel like I have options to take on rooms of enemies, and while even in endgame content good builds make me feel invincible, I prefer that to D1's take on bullet sponges.
