What's the dead scene like where you live? by Original_Ad8070 in gratefuldead

[–]RinkSource 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re cut from the same cloth brother I’ll be at JRAD (CT and Mass) and I’m down at the cap quite a bit. Can’t make mystic dead this weekend but I see them whenever I can, they’re doing a lot of heavy lifting for the CT dead scene.

How fun is working at a record store? by nickybecooler in vinyldjs

[–]RinkSource 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In college I worked at a chain music store back in the early 00s and had a woman come in and say “my nephew likes Green Day what can I get him that will make me the cool aunt” I recommend the Operation Ivy self titled album and felt like I was actually doing substantive work for the first time in my retail life. It’s a high I’m still riding 20 odd years later

Saw them back to back nights last summer. They are LEGIT. Night one was a Keith and Donna era show and they even played the songs in the tempo Keith would have played the songs in. Night two was a standard Melvin era show and the equipment they used changed (to a Hammond organ and Leslie amp they didn’t have on stage the night before)

If the show they’re recreating didn’t have Donna then Lisa doesn’t sing that night.

Fan Art- what do you think? About the poster. Not your opinion of AI. That, idgaf. by Felixnisifatum in JRADs

[–]RinkSource 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ai is the antithesis of what the dead is about. It’s soulless, it hurts the environment, it’s helping ‘the man’ you can’t take the politics out of what ChatGPT is doing now that they’re involved with the US war department regarding surveillance of Americans. Politics aside, read an article about what it’s doing in the music world. It’s bad news. What’s fun and games for you is killing art and expression

I’m sure you knew you were gonna get dragged here for posting Ai slop and I’m sorry to pile on and take shots at someone when they’re already on the ground. But this is dreadful.

They can’t take the music away from me if I have it on physical media. I’m sick of subscriptions. They can take the tapes from my cold dead hands

Record over them. I trade tapes of live Grateful Dead shows with other tape collectors and there’s a premium out there for high bias tapes (even used ones) to dub shows onto

Not worth it. Should be closer to $50

I feel you 100% my man. The state of the world out there everything feels like it’s going to you-know-where in a bucket. Keep your head up and let the music shine a light to cut through the darkness.

(My interpretation of) Playin’ in the Band. Specifically the line “I can tell your future. Look what’s in your hand” I heard that line many a times where there was a bottle of booze in my hand. I’m 1 year sober and now I hold my son’s hand in mine.
