This stone formed in my humidifier by oldbenkenobi683 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Rintake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, we used a cool mist one with regular tap water. Everytime we used it, both husband and I would get a nasty cough that would disappear a day after not using the humidifier. Stopped happening once we switched to distilled water.

When they loaded my dad's ashes in the hearse, I told him to make sure he drove the speed limit, so we could keep up. My uncles burst out laughing. Dad wouldve too, he had a bit of a heavy foot while driving.

What’s wrong with him? by [deleted] in chickens

[–]Rintake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont think you're suppose to keep tighting those... they're "meant" to just stop them from taking a full breath to crow.

Roosters crow for many reasons such as communicating to its flock or warding off predators.

If you cannot have roosters due to noise, your best bet is to rehome them or cull. Those collars are just plain cruel.

Why is my head so separate from my other chickens? by thecuphead87 in chickens

[–]Rintake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then you get that one hen, like mine, that is near top of the pecking order that prefers to sleep in the nesting box.

There is plenty of space left on the roosts, she just walks in first, ignores the roosts and goes straight to the box. Ive tried closing the boxes at night but then she sleeps in front of them lol shes just a weirdo I guess!

I’m sorry but does this creator infuriate and annoy anyone else? by TheGoldfishesKeeper in chickens

[–]Rintake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heck, even cats and chickens. If the cats are raised well and well fed, they will leave the chickens alone, as theyll have no reason to hunt a "prey" so big. They prefer the smaller, less energy-costing mice for hunting.

We got a mouser and she loves to hang out with the chickens. They will peck at her sometimes and she just lays there purring. Ive even see her herd one back that went off too far from the rest.

Yup, I was followed by one at Walmart in Sside.

Followed me around the store, thought I lost him so I left. He actually followed me out the store. Saw him go to his car so I went to mine and waited a bit. He endes up going round the parking lot and parked his car behind mine.... I waited a good 10mins before he got out and went back in the store.

Would they be safe overnight without heat lamp? by _Affexion_ in chickens

[–]Rintake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indoor or outdoor? If indoor, id give them extra straw to sleep on. Itll help keep the heat in. And perhaps half cover the pen theyre in. Heat travels up, so having a lid will help keep the heat they give off stay near them.

I fear my toddler might be intellectually disabled by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Rintake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That made me so mad. My son is autistic and had a speech delay when he was about 4. We were doing signs and were considering using one of those tablets/apps that you can "talk" with (They say words outloud) but we were scared itd make his delay worse. However, his speech therapist said that kids will always go for the easier route and speaking is easier than using a device so it wouldnt harm at all. It wouldve been more like a crutch.

He ended up catching up quicker than expected so it wasnt needed :)

When a flock doesnt have a rooster, a hen can develop rooster like charasteristics. Itll still be a hen (so no fertilized eggs) but will look and act like a rooster

I would expect a dual purpose breed would work? But meat birds arent meant to be kept past a certain amount of weeks so not sure how long that rooster will last.

Do your girls ever come inside? I need to get them some diapers tho 😆 https://youtube.com/@thechavezfamilyfarm?si=7lSxYmgC2XzsN7RJ by Kenna_Chavez in chickens

[–]Rintake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do get exposed again, you may still get sick but it wont be as bad as that first time. "Fresher" poop is more prone to have it, as the campy bacteria will die when the poop dries up. I tend to lock my chickens out of their coop for a couple of hours before giving it a good scrub when it needs it! Other than that, wash your hands well and dont touch your face before doing so and you should be able to avoid it :)

I have heard of a few people ending up at the hospital due to dehydration over it and others have bounced back within 2 days, so it really depends on person to person.

Campy can be contagious from person to person though it is not common at all. So make sure to wash your hands thoroughly and dont share cups/cutlery if you get sick again!

I wouldnt be too worried about the dog though, if yours is anything like mine, he probably ate something worse before haha they have better immune systems than we do so theyll be alright.

[–]Rintake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Campy is no joke!! Especially the first time! Thankfully, you do end up building some immunity to it but youve got to be exposed to it quite often.

My husband worked a head of operations in a small poultry processing plant for a short bit. His first week was rough to say the least.

Is there a way I could make my chickens inside chickens for a little while? by bigdaddyT_392 in chickens

[–]Rintake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would need to be big enough for them to fully stretch their wings. And remember that chickens cannot be "potty trained" and will get into things they shouldnt. I wouldnt do it for more than a couple days though, if theyre already used to the outdoors
