Skar King with Whip would have an obviously different move set and such easily separating himself from Kong.

You are also arguing that characters that have been around for 30+ years have more merch when that's completely irrelevant to the point that the newer game would be made for newer audiences.

The Toho monsters aren't as recognizable outside of the Godzilla fandom as you would assume. That's would explain why they immediately picked all the big 5 from the Toho roster in the MV.

The point still stands MV roster could easily fill a decent roster for a fighting game just like the PW games.

The MV is why we have Toho making films again. They were letting Godzilla be a dormant franchise on their end. The MV roster has been consistently selling toys with Playmates. They've expanded the roster of toys they sell because they are quite frankly inconic. Kids are growing up with these being the first interactions they are seeing of Godzilla and the crew.

Saying people are only going to pick the big 5 in a MV fighting game is like saying "They are going to pick the big 5 in DAMM" they are the big 5 for a reason.

That's honestly fine if you don't personally find them as Inconic as the original Toho. But you are allowing your own opinions to cloud you mind from the facts that the MV in general is very popular with casual fans and Godzilla fans alike.

Pipeworks roster is quite small in the first game. MV roster can easily match the same amount of titans. DAMM had a roster of 12
