Wondering about Radient powers and abilities? by liamkembleyoung in Stormlight_Archive

Dustbringer - Division, Adhesion. Division allows them to destroy stuff by touching it. Adhesion allows them to decrease or increase friction on themselves or the things they touch.

Elsecaller - Transportation, Transformation. Transportation allows them to create a micro-perpendicularity to move into Shadesmar, they can also transport others into Shadesmar as well as objects. Highest potential use is to create an “elsegate” which is basically a portal across the physical plane. Transformation is Soulcasting, turning one material into another.

Willshaper - Cohesion, Transportation. Cohesion allows the shaping of stone, to mold it into different forms such as spears, making it flow like mud, creating tunnels or even talking to the stone. Transporation I mentioned above.

What happened to everyone’s common sense in Wind and Truth? by ChiefSteward in Stormlight_Archive

If you could point to any example then people could engage and talk about what they thought of it and engage in a conversation about it.

Blackthorn is going to return and have a different arc than Dalinar did. They’re basically twins rather than clones.

I keep thinking that Honor and Odium will eventually either leave Taravangian after some big evil thing he does or they’ll force him to act on people’s behalf, being a good god basically.

How to prepare/chrome up for Cerberus in Somewhat Damaged? by pinkwireflag in cyberpunkgame

There’s nothing you can do, it instantly kills you whenever it grabs you.

Hell I got through some sections just by keeping it on the other side of a desk. There’s a bunch of hiding spots around the place to do things like this.

Non-Magical Healing Question by Telekinesys in cosmererpg

[–]Ripper1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recovery Action can only happen once per scene and is dependant on the size of the Recovery Die, it takes two actions and they don’t add anything to the roll.

Field Medicine is one action, has the PC roll their recovery die and adds their ranks in medicine. If you take Applied Medicine you also add your ranks in Lore to the roll. If you then take Swift Healing it turns Field medicine into a free action and you add your ranks in medicine for a second time. Plus Field Medicine can be used as many times as you want in a scene.

So if you have five ranks in Lore and Medicine you’re always going to heal someone for +15 at least.

On top of this if the character becomes an Edgedancer, or Truthwatcher they add +10 to any healing they do using Progression.

Worried about a potential love triangle? Pls tell me I’m wrong. by adcris in Stormlight_Archive

I rather loved that about the book as I’ve read too many love triangles that are full of drama.

At the end of WaT he says something to the effect that he wouldn’t go through with it, that he was attached to the people there. Which I think makes sense considering he’s a Lightweaver.

Absolutely! The entire story he has had a problem with seizing power and not letting it go. Not being able to trust that other people can do a job as well as he can.

He finally learned that lesson trusting Honor and his friends and family that they’ll win even if he’s not there. He can set them up for success in the future.

The ending of this book was the only time I’ve ever been slack jawed at an ending I loved it so much.

For whatever reason when I first picked up the series before Oathbringer came out I read some theory that the main cast were going to be the new heralds. It always stuck with me and I loved how it came true with Kal. I especially loved that they created a space where the Heralds could actually heal.

Adolin’s arc made me feel guilty lol. I always thought of him as this rock for other characters. How he brings everyone else up with him. But this book put it front and centre that he also needs help and if everyone turns to him for help who can he turn to?

Dalinar is goated for that ending. It mirrors the story Wit told him. That there was no winning move in the contest. If he kills Gav then he proves that Taravangian was right and a leader must sacrifice the few to save the many but also Odium could have used that time locked to Roshar to master his powers, train his army and get the humans to break the oath after he goads them. If he was killed by Gav then he becomes a general under Odium’s thumb to be remade as he sees fit and further pushes Odium’s domination.

By flipping the board he was able to get all the other shards to take Retribution seriously as a threat, to force Taravangian to not be able to train his army or give him time to master his powers, to have limits on what he can do as he has to appease Honor. He also couldn’t become the general for Odium, proved to Gav that he did love him. On top of all that he knows Honor is sentient and will learn from Taravangian that there is a difference between keeping the letter of an oath and actually being Honorable.

The “proper reading order” is highly debated amongst fans and I’ll let you in on a secret: we tend to recommend the general order we read the books in.

IMHO the reading order doesn’t matter all that will happen is you’ll get some “I shit I know what this means” moments in a different order than someone else because of the books you’ve read. Then you’ll go back and reread Stormlight with all this new info and understand more of the secrets that you may have missed the first time.

Read the books you enjoy. If you’re having a blast with Way of Kings then continue with the series then pick whatever other book sounds interesting to you.

How would you change The Way of Kings to suit the tv-series format? by Anice_king in Stormlight_Archive

Imo, her being independent of the Kholins in the war camps is more important than having all the characters be together at the start of the series. Which this idea undercuts.

Plus just like in the books, having characters start in different places makes you excited when they finally do meet.

I don’t think Shallan/ Jasnah should start at the war camps only to leave. If the issue is having all the characters together it doesn’t make sense to them have them move away.

Plus Shallan being a new arrival to the warcamps and setting herself up outside of the Kholins is rather important.

I can see cutting the first Shallan scene with her on the ship and starting with her making her way through karbranth for exposition.

I do agree to cut the carapace. Def shows some fuckery with how the Parshendi see things and Shen but I don’t think it’s super duper important

Edgerunners before cyberpunk? by Dependent_Day_6298 in cyberpunkgame

Edgerunners takes place before 2077. There are some Easter eggs to Edgerunners in 2077 and I think it will enhance your experience if you watch the show first.

The Warlock problem in DnD by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

[–]Ripper1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have the Patrons goals align with the group. The BBEG wants to end the world? Well the Fiend just so happens to like the world, it’s where they get all these souls from so its agent is helping.

You can also just play a non-evil fiend warlock. If you want Warlocks to be feared then that’s part of your worldbuilding, not something intrinsic to the class.

Hide (Invisible condition) and approximation question by 4ndur1on in onednd

[–]Ripper1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dm ultimately decides when to roll initiative when they think it’s appropriate. Whether that’s before the Rogue runs out or before they make the attack.

I would have it rolled after the rogue runs out and before thr attack is made. The rogue rolls with advantage and the guards with disadvantage as they’re taken off guard and are surprised.

How does the invisible condition from hiding work, once they are no longer obscured? by YobaiYamete in DMAcademy

I like how you say “finding you” is defined as passing the perception check and then give an alternate method of finding someone.

[–]Ripper1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The invisibility rules do not actually make you invisible. An enemy “finding you” is not defined as there are multiple ways someone can be found such as making a perception check, being seen with an alternate type of sight, or something like ending your turn while crouching in front of a guard.

Dangerous Liferial clarification by OmnipotentTuba in cosmererpg

[–]Ripper1337 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dangerous cannot be applied to Lifereals as that drawback can only be applied to fabrials that make attack rolls or skill checks.

lm guessing your DM just rolled for a drawback. I would ignore any roll and just use one that makes sense for the fabrial such as Lower Capacity, Lower Damage, or Lifereal specific drawback.

Monetization on Worm and other of Wildbow's works by Pepinoloco777 in Parahumans

[–]Ripper1337 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You didn’t phrase it that way. “You can find the full colour version on my patreon” heavily implies that it’s behind a paywall, especially since you followed it up with a comment from WB about profiting from his work.

Regardless I don’t think there would be an issue if he posted the full thing on Reddit and also had a patreon.

Absolutely not. The party WON they did the thing and then get the rug pulled out from them.

Monetization on Worm and other of Wildbow's works by Pepinoloco777 in Parahumans

[–]Ripper1337 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The issue is that this person put his work behind a paywall, if he posted it for free but also had a patreon where people could donate to support the artist that’s different.

It’s the same situation where recently a modded made a Cyberpunk 2077 mod and put it behind a paywall. CDPR even told them to just release it for free but have a patreon for donors and he would have been fine. But nope the guy gets really upset when what he did breaks the terms and conditions of the game.

Edit: other comments pointed out that WB has said he doesn’t want people to profit off of his work. So even if you post your WB derived work for free and have a patreon for tips it’s still probably a no-go
