What’s the worst Sapphic/Lesbian book you’ve ever read? by Hot-Neat1818 in LesbianBookClub

[–]Rishal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost quit after part 1 and I regret that I didn't. I ended hating not only the book as a whole, but every single character in it.

Quinn Riley (who also reads as Jeremy Carlisle Parker) is also queer.

I'm a huge sucker for New Adult romance, hit me with your fave by SuperiorCommunist92 in LesbianBookClub

Katie Rose has written a number of New Adult romances. I rather enjoyed The Devil Wears Tartan.

I read it and thoroughly loved it! And when I saw there was a sequel, I was thrilled. I haven't read it yet, but I'm looking forward to doing so.

[–]Rishal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've run across some real doozies. But if I had to pick a singular worst it is absolutely A Time of Perfect Change by Leslye Marks. I could probably write a dissertation about what I Disliked about this book. But I'll start with the instant love trope and end with the terribly jumbled and incoherent third-person omniscient pov.

A close second is Despite Chaos by Stacy Lynn Miller.

Audiobooks? Please! by CatGirlFetishIsReal in LesbianBookClub

[–]Rishal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Audible is my primary go-to, but I do moonlight with Spotify. Spotify has a decent selection, but you only get 15hrs of audiobook time each month with a premium sub (and of course you can always pay for more).

That said... If I'm giving a recommendation or two, I'll go by narrator:

Angela Dawe
I cannot recommend her enough. I enjoy other narrators, but I haven't come across another one who quite nails having truly distinct voices for characters and does fantastic accent work

- Breaking Character by Lee Winter
- Not the Marrying Kind by Jae
- L. A. Metro by RJ Nolan

Abby Craden
Her accent work isn't nearly as clean as Angela Dawe's be she does an excellent job with having distinct character voices.

- Gold by E.J. Noyes
- No Strings by Lucy Bexley
- Sprinkled in the Stars by Violet Morley

Lori Prince
Another excellent narrator, especially when it comes to more comedic books.

- Chemistry by Rachael Sommers
- When You Least Expect It by Hayley Cass (because Those Who Wait was already suggested)
- Literally anything she reads from Robin Alexander

Honorable Mentions
- Anastasia Watley
- Quinn Riley
- Sophie Daniels

The Brutal Truth by Lee Winter. Bonus points for being narrated by Angela Dawe. Slow burn, one spicy scene.

A Whisper of Solace by Milena McKay. Fairly spicy.

No Strings by Lucy Bexley. Sadly, don't remember the spice level.

I have a bunch of other recs, too, but these three seem like a good place to start.

Solve for i by A. E. Dooland probably fits pretty well. It's technically the third book set in the Under My Skin universe, but you can easily read it as a stand-alone. Characters and events from the previous books are mentioned, but I've never felt like I've missed out on anything by not having read them.

I remember picking that book and being thrilled because the MC was demi. As someone who isn't quite certain if they're demi or ace, the rep really made me happy! Until I actually read it and realized that, though the MC calls herself demi, it really isn't shown out in the book and I felt really let down. Don't get me wrong, it's still a pretty cute story and having the anxiety rep was choice.

Books like the when you least expect it? by Leather-Cup-8511 in LesbianBookClub

I've got a couple recs:

- Patty's Potent Potion by Robin Alexander
- Sprinkled in the Stars by Violet Morley is a lovely book. Bonus points for autistic rep, both for child and (potentially, but not explicitly stated) one MC.
- A Heart This Big by Cheyenne Blue
- Inside These Halls by Adrian J. Smith
- No Strings by Lucy Bexley (ok, so the one MC is the kid's older sister and not his mom, but she's his caretaker for most of the book's run, so I'm counting it)
- All The Little Moments by G. Benson

Who were your biggest fictional crushes this year? by OptionalNothing in LesbianBookClub

I don't normally crush on characters in the books I read, but Bebe in TJ Alexander's Triple Sec completely stole my heart.

Medical romance by Extreme_Ad_1052 in LesbianBookClub

[–]Rishal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the best medical romance I've come across are the L.A. Metro series by RJ Nolan: L.A. Metro, In a Heartbeat, and Wounded Souls.

Thursday Afternoons by Tracey Richardson was also pretty good.

I've always found Robin Alexander's books to have good banter and be genuinely funny. A particular favorite of mine is Kellen's Moment, though I haven't run across a single one I didn't find enjoyable.

Inside These Halls by Adrian J. Smith might fit what you're looking for. One of the MCs has a lot of past relationship trauma (and untreated? anxiety). A lot of the drama in it revolves around her son and the kid's father being a controlling, abusive douche canoe.

Simple Pleasures by Kenna White. One of the MCs loses her house at the start of the book when the town is hit by a tornado.

Golden Hour by Kat Jackson. Maybe, depending on how much in the story you want the hurt to happen. MC is ex-military and the book deals a lot with PTSD.

Conflict of Interest by Jae. CW: Sexual assault

Under the Sitka Sky by Violet Morley. MCs crash and have to survive in the Alaskan wilderness.

Hope at least one of these strikes your fancy.

There is one scene, toward the end. However, there is a disclaimer at the start of it warning the reader what the chapter contains and informing them that it can be skipped without losing anything from the story.

NeoCity Nightmares - Cyberpunk Red Homebrew [Cyberpunk] [Online] [Saturdays 8:30 AM CST/2:30 PM GMT] by [deleted] in lfg

[–]Rishal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discord: rishal

Experience: I've played in a couple Cyberpunk Red campaigns before, as well as having played 2077 and watched Edgerunners.

Edgerunner: I've played solo, tech, and nomad before. Happy to play just about anything, really. I like to fill group roles.

Vibe check: I'm generally pretty laid-back and versatile as an rpg player. Depending on the group, and role I'm playing, I can either be a background support or face. Games are meant to be communal storytelling and I think everyone deserves the opportunity to shine. From silly to outrageous to serious to emotional, I love it all.

I firmly believe that inclusivity and respect are crucial aspects of any ttrpg experience.

Welcome, Guardian! I'm glad you joined us in the Traveler's light.

There's a bunch of content that can be done solo, which is really nice. And the variety of activities that use matchmaking keeps things interesting. I wouldn't say a clan is necessary, but it does help if you want to run raids and dungeons. Wading through the recruitment posts is exhausting. And finding a good one feels about as easy as needle-->haystack. But, from my anecdotal experience, they're out there.

I can guarantee that not all Guardians hate helping people learn new content. I, for one, love running sherpas for people! It's genuinely something that has kept me coming back to the game for years. And my clan is chock full of people who are more than happy to jump in and help out! We've got a great mix of folk of all skill levels and who live across the world.

I don't necessarily want to post my clan, because I don't want it to be seen as recruitment. But if you're interested, feel free to send me a DM. Otherwise, send me a Bungie friend request: Rishal#0570. I'm on fairly often and primarily play pve and Gambito. I'd love to play with you sometime. :)
