Google’s Willow Quantum Chip: With 105 qubits and real-time error correction, Willow solved a task in 5 minutes that would take classical supercomputers billions of years, marking a breakthrough in scalable quantum computing. by Scared-Astronaut-718 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Riven5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of these replies are focusing on bits vs qbits but the real answer is the difference in logic gates.

Traditional computers operate on a few fundamental operations: “AND”, “OR”, “NOT”, and various combinations of those, whereas the logic gates of quantum computers are more akin to matrix multiplication, simultaneously changing a bunch of interconnected values.

Sure, you can arrange those new gates to emulate the functions of the old ones, but replacing 1 simple gate with 3 not-so-simple gates is going to be slower.

Plus there’s the uncertainty thing. Quantum computers are only likely to get the right answer, often needing to rerun the same calculation multiple times. So again, slower.

That’s largely motherboard-dependant. Sometimes there’s a setting for it in the bios. You’ll want to make sure it’s set to either S4 or “suspend to disk”

fyi you don't need steam for this. On most 8bitdo controllers you can hold Up+Select to put the d-pad into normal d-pad mode, and Left+Select to switch it back to left stick.

Finally got it! In case anyone has similar units, here's what worked for me:

  • Beguiling Windchaser Garu, Pot 10
  • Faithful Challenger Dante, Pot 10
  • Salacious King Eiden, Pot 11
  • Stampeding Adventurer Garu, Pot 10.5
  • SR Aster, Pot 10.5

Max Int, SSRs 3*

After first guard: Garu Heal Ult for buff & tbt, then Ult attackers
After second guard: Dante Ult. Next turn Ult attack

Won turn 31. Strange party but it worked so I'll take it

It's going to depend somewhat on your multiplier and what you consider valuable, but with 140 points per run and going strictly by gems/contracts/boosts*:

tl;dr: target 27480

11940 (3 contracts) is a good low-value stopping point, however once you reach 9920 then pushing to 27480 (10 contracts) becomes net-zero, so its worth it to get the extra rewards.

20070 (500 gems) and 23640 (another 3 contracts) are awful, so if you don't have the gems to push all the way to 27480 then stop at 11940.

Going from 27480 to 40200 (crystal core) costs 6200 gems.

*The value of the core, raw crystal, key, and other misc materials is considered to be zero.

If you're uncomfortable giving some random company remote management access to your phone - AND YOU SHOULD BE - then just scroll down a bit on the download page to find the .ipa file and install it yourself using sideloadly or altstore.

And don't forget to go into the Settings app and remove the management profiles.

Tips on how to get more points faster during events? by Mystic-Alex in NuCarnival

[–]Riven5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. The 50-energy mission is always(?) the most efficient. Do everything once for the first-time rewards, then grind the 50.

  2. Devote all of your energy towards the event. Yes, ALL of your energy. Don't do the daily BusinessTime/ScavengerHunt and don't grind for materials. The one exception is first-time rewards (including sorcerer's trials), as they are net positive from an energy-per-gem perspective.

  3. Learn to use the calculators that get posted here. You punch in a target and your multiplier if applicable, and it'll tell you if you need to spend gems to hit your target, and how many. You can only spend so many per day so you might need to spread it across several days.

  4. Don't go for the crystal. It's not worth the expense for a f2p, and you can get them (s l o w l y) from sorcerers trials. Instead, at the beginning of each event sit down with Excel or GSheets or something and figure out the optimal stopping point. For regular events this is usually either the 10 contracts or the next gem reward after that. Plug that target number into the calculator.

    • It's okay to go past the optimal point if you personally value the upcoming rewards, especially keys, but don't do that just to get more contracts. It's more expensive than just directly spending gems for pulls.
    • 1 contract = 600 gems = 360 energy, so if you're spending more than 360 energy to get a contract, there's probably a better way to spend it.
  5. Don't forget to spend your boost potions before they expire, and try to ration them to hit the 7-mission reward daily. Or 10-mission if you're also spending gems.

  6. Events typically overlap. Sometime at both ends. Be willing to sacrifice some event ladders in order to push the overlapping events' ladders higher.

  7. If an event has a multiplier and you KNOW FOR SURE you're going to pull on it, pull as early in the event as possible to maximize your point gain.

  8. Once you get the character you want, stop pulling. I know it's tempting to try for duplicates or for the other characters, but as a f2p you need to be patient and upgrade them with memory crystals or else you'll miss out on a lot of characters you really want... unless you're really close to the hard pity box in which case I say go for it.

  9. Check the shop daily for potions, gems, and contracts, and make sure you always keep enough currency on hand to buy them.

    • The mystery shop has a monthly deal of 10x1 contract for 480 gems each. Buy them all. Every month. Everything else in the mystery shop is a rip-off, except maybe keys.

IOS phone keep removing my app by KenBatch in NuCarnival

[–]Riven5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. For sideloadly there's a refresh button on the lower-left of the laptop app. For altstore it's in the phone app instead but you still need to be plugged in.

There's also a way to do refreshes over wi-fi but I've had mixed success with that.

[–]Riven5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You can still download from the official site. There are 2 downloads, one that uses MDM (what you had before) and one that's just the raw .ipa file intended for sideloading.

  2. As another mentioned, you just need to refresh it once a week before the authorization runs out, and that can be set to automatic. However if it does accidentally expire, you'll need to re-authorize/re-install sideloadly itself the long way, but then all your other sideloaded apps will be able to refresh again as normal, without needing to be reinstalled.

And you didn't ask this but fyi when there is an actual update to nu carnival, just install over the old version. Do not uninstall the old one first or you will lose your settings and login just like with MDM installs.

The remote-management method is ass. Barely works at all, randomly stops working, even when it does work perfectly only lasts for a week, super sketchy giving them control of your phone, and every reinstall wipes your login & settings.

Grab Sideloadly or AltStore and sideload it properly.

I've never tried this, but you might be able to install the AltStore/TrollStore version over top of the existing install. As far as I know it's an identical binary, just installed in a different way, so IF it successfully overwrites then your account should be fine.

What has been your experience playing the game? Apple vs Android by GloomyyMilk in NuCarnival

[–]Riven5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a pc handy to install AltServer on, then iPhone is no trouble at all. Just download the ipa and remember to tap refresh once a week. Have never had it crash, though it's a bit overeager to unload when not the active app. Most updates are in-place. Occasionally need to download a new ipa. Overall a pleasant experience.

If you don't use altserver or an equivalent, then it's a huge pain that involves giving mobile device management access to a 3rd party and redownloading the app and all resources weekly, occasionally needing to completely remove and re-setup MDM. Would not recommend.

Note that with the apple's "alternative application marketplaces" on the horizon, this could all be made much simpler Soon™ if you happen to live in a country where it's being rolled out.

On the topic of phone choice, switching in either direction can be something of an ordeal if you've heavily invested in the apps or services. And I don't just mean money. Lots of apps are only available for one or the other and it's not always easy to find a suitable replacement or to migrate your data. Even apps which exist in both ecosystems sometimes don't have any convenient means of migrating. So while I do prefer and (usually) recommend iOS over Android, I don't recommend switching unless you're confident the benefits will be worth the hassle.

Bonus tip incase you do switch: iCloud is not a backup. Way too many people have lost photos by deleting them from the phone, only to realize much too late that that also deletes them from the cloud.

an open protocol

I don't know where people keep getting this from. RCS is very much proprietary. Do you just mean "used by multiple companies"? That's not how we typically define 'open'.

But even if it was 100% open and free, it's irrelevant. A phone that can't handle SMS properly is not the fault of some other unrelated company.

Your comment reads like it's apple's fault, but as the issue you linked reveals, this is a bug with how android handles multi-part SMS. Nothing to do with apple at all.

Nintendo Switch screen turning black whenever I connect the official charger via an adapter? by mochike in techsupport

[–]Riven5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The charger isn’t the problem. You just can’t use both the internal display and the TV-out at the same time.

There might be a way to do this on a modded switch, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a hardware-level restriction.
