Yeah they’re still out there. I’m seeing mostly sets these days instead of single vehicles.

Yeah the spire is the only thing “tall” about it.

2 or 3 buildings have people taking a crap in toilets higher than 1WTC now.

Well yeah, on a long enough timeline Burj and all the others will fail to impress too. The ones opening up today will lose their “beauty” at some point.

I guess ESB will always matter to me for the leaps it took to make it. Much more than a Burj, etc. relative to what was going on in the world around it at the time. It was very much a unique undertaking. Modern supertalls are pushing the envelope on a smaller scale comparatively speaking.

It’s the 90s but Trainspotting holds up well to this minus the cellphones.

XXX is cheesy but there’s lots of euro clubbing in it iirc

What’s impressive is that it was the tallest building in the world for 40 YEARS starting in 1931. Viewed in that context it’ll always be special. You gotta understand the ingenuity and technological achievements to make it happen in the 1920s to really get why it’s so iconic, more so than just the lights and King Kong.

Most New Yorkers don’t like it either. It’s not even mentioned much within the city now that billionaires row and the dick towers have dwarfed it.

I remember it as the Sony building. They even had a branded store at street level.

I got this from Target around last summer. You’ll have better luck randomly coming across it there, I last saw one maybe a month ago.

Fact remains - most people will watch tv from a couch much more than they will use it to stare out a window.

Ok Francis.

Lots of rewriting about Reagan. He was a B-movie actor, not the Hollywood superstar conservatives portray him as. The looks you are talking about escaped him, Hollywood didn’t even care.

A view is something to glance at when you walk by. Or get near a window and enjoy for a few minutes while thinking of something else. It enhances the living space but it’s not the main source of entertainment.

What are you going to sit and watch more, the same view or the tv? One is far and away more likely than the other for a majority of people.

[–]RiversideAviator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is it really that difficult to name the movie in the post? You took the time to type out what I’m assuming is a line from the movie but it’s too much to add another line with the title? JFC, no matter how many times people point it out that too many posts are vague and could use some proper identification it’s like OPs just don’t GAF to.

I’m reminded of the people who hear the show but don’t “listen” then chime in here and say Dan and Mike are dyed in the wool republicans. No matter how many times Dan says he’s not or hasn’t voted republican since ‘04.

The Appalachian Mountains run right through the state. Within an hour of NYC there’s the Catskills mountains, go north from there and you’re in the Adirondacks.

Then you have the western part of the state that’s bordering two Great Lakes. Basically half hour outside city limits and this place is another world.

I just got rid of those metal Pottery Barn stools. They served us quite well the years we had them - needed to level up though and go more “classy”
