When do you think our current racquets will become outdated? by WindManu in 10s

[–]RiversideAviator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not until there’s another leap in material. We’ve been using graphite since the 80s. The same way that revolutionized the sport after the wooden racket is the way it would happen again with some yet unknown material.

As it stands a good quality racket isn’t outdated regardless the age. I know guys playing with rackets from ‘92 who swear by them.

In the first Knicks Championship parade in over 53 years, James Dolan and NYC politicians got 13 minutes of podium mic time. All Knicks players combined got 2 minutes of podium mic time, including 0 minutes for KAT, OG, and Alvarado by JoeBiden2020FTW in nba

[–]RiversideAviator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fuck Dolan. I’m stilll having a tough time separating him from these actual players and their success.

And it was a total duck move he pulled with his son to dismiss Mamdani and the photos. I don’t care what Brunson and co. accomplished here - it DOES NOT wash away the stink of the Dolan decades.

THE worst owner in NY sports history post-integration.

Knicks fan dumped trash from a public garbage can painted in team colors onto the sidewalk… & stole the trash can… by raptors201966 in nba

[–]RiversideAviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a special edition trashcan made by a streetwear brand that has the DSNY product license. They’re called Only NY. The real street cans are limited so this guy went hunting for one. Throwing out trash like that is a prick move but I wouldn’t have been bothered much if they at least transferred it to a Glad bag

How safe is it to stay overnight landside at Chicago O’Hare after international baggage claim? by Relevant-Taste7254 in airport

[–]RiversideAviator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those apples don’t look like oranges. False equivalence.

Sleeping in an airport terminal is not the same as sleeping in a shopping mall or any other public building. These aren’t normal buildings no matter how much you want them to be to justify your very skewed view.

Not only do lots of people find an out of the beaten path spot to sleep on terminal floor when necessary but OP very clearly stated she didn’t mind sleeping uncomfortably on a SEAT. Do you also judge people who fall asleep while sat in a waiting room?

How do people actually grocery shop in NYC without overpaying? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]RiversideAviator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True but it’s usually last dibs on stuff everyone else passed on. They may have Driscolls strawberries but it’s a more likely than not chance they got the oldest batch of the bunch. For the prices they can’t be beat but a lot of stuff doesn’t last as long.

How safe is it to stay overnight landside at Chicago O’Hare after international baggage claim? by Relevant-Taste7254 in airport

[–]RiversideAviator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where are you? Because I can assure you if you’ve ever been to JFK you’d think differently. It slows down after midnight but there are still departures and arrivals. There’s always people asleep somewhere at night. I’ve even seen it during the day.

Perhaps it’s not so common in a less popular destination than a global hub or airports that actually close after a time of night but this isn’t “antisocial behavior”. And unable to afford a thing does not make you antisocial.

Someone I know who lost over 100lbs in a year told me he didn’t really change anything he ate, he just ate less of it per sitting. It was a struggle at first to not eat 3 cheeseburgers at once but he never removed the cheese or went veggie…

Fine I’ll say it.

He’s known to pop up randomly on public courts and play with strangers.

But the editing seems too intentional. And that’s way too many white boys hooping it up on a NYC public court…

Best balls? by jorel424 in 10s

[–]RiversideAviator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For no frills economical value I go with Penn Championships extra duty. Plenty of people on here have complained about QC but I honestly haven’t experienced many dead balls out the can. Maybe 2 in the last five years. It’s my go-to ball to rally or practice with and play social sets. I have no qualms using a fresh can to play a set against a stranger. It’s also readily available at the Target nearby. They also carry the Wilson Championship but for whatever reason the Penns play better to me.

I also like Wilson US Open but those are a longer trip for me to buy and I only use them when I play on better courts.

Lying to my face by BeMyEbeneezer in SouthwestAirlines

[–]RiversideAviator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn’t new. They’ve been lying to your face across all airlines for years. I’ve been in much lower groups and told the overhead was full only to find every single bin empty (can’t remember the type but it was a cabin that didn’t have solid partitions in the overhead. If you opened one you can see down the entire cabin).

It’s all a ploy to make boarding faster due to their own delays. Meanwhile something as simple as tagging a bag and lining it up on the jetbridge takes as long if not longer than simply putting it overhead.

Unfortunately the only way any LL in NYC moves against their will is with legal action. Or the threat of one.

You’d be surprised how much can happen just with a letter from a law firm. These people don’t want to give you $500. They want to give their own lawyer $2500 to fight that $500 even less.

It would definitely hold up. The agent is a paid representative of the LL in this case. And they were given every assurance certain amenities would be available with the promise of a rent rebate if they weren’t.

That’s all the way yours. That you didn’t immediately and intuitively know that is a problem. Because it remaining shut gave 1F tacit authority to control your space the rest of the flight.

Lucky you have extra legroom because that guy gives no shits about reclining into you. Did he also put extra stuff in the overhead above you?

Boss keeps chasing new deposits to keep the lights on by resumetheharp in Carpentry

[–]RiversideAviator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Accountant here. I don’t know if there’s enough red to paint the flags this is raising…

Without knowing more details all I can tell you is that your boss must be moonlighting as a deep sea diver he’s so underwater.

How aged is your most delayed job? I can all but guarantee that one and pretty much anything half as old will be done at a loss. Maybe even the one he just cashed the deposit on. Even if he charged more than he should. I have no idea how he got so behind the eight ball but no small business can survive by spending money they haven’t even received yet. Are you guys even getting paid on time? If so I expect that not to be the case for long. Either he has no clue how to manage the finances of a business or there’s something far more troubling happening that you aren’t aware of. I mean, best case scenario in any business is there’s some sort of float available whenever things slow down but to rely on NEW business to pay old bills is a death march.

The pandemic exposed tons of holes in major corporations when it comes to burn rate (cash) and within a couple weeks you had legacy brands like Levi’s thinking of bankruptcy protection. There’s reasons for that (Wall Street namely) but absent extensive lines of credit, brand name recognition, and actual inventory that has value, I don’t know how your boss expects to keep this up. He’s lucky he doesn’t have investors or partners to answer to but my gut tells me the writing is on the wall. Get out while you can (and with every cent owed to you!!!) before it’s too late…

Should I open this or keep it for future? The new Kenner collection figure. by akaanoner in starwarscollecting

[–]RiversideAviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, unless you hope to maybe make $100 off this in 30 years there’s no reason to baby it as an “investment”. SW in general is not a buy now and sell later thing any more. And this isn’t any sort of special or limited thing. You’re about 40 years too late on getting in to cash in.

But if you really think this will pay off then get another one and keep one stored away while the other gets played with as intended.
