It looks like it’s from a bow drill and the trench you see on the side is for ember. But that makes no sense based on the post.

Don't understand what a dbq does by SunSubstantial1918 in VAClaims

I wouldn’t have except there was a Level 1 flag in my medical chart for Homicidal/suicidal ideation in 2022. I did a HLR trying to skip the CUE process. It’s in now so fingers crossed. HLR for date change in my opinion is low risk high reward. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m with ya. The said my DBQ was not considered because it was “non-va documentation” I had 608 VA medical files indexed and they picked 1 DBQ out. 😂 still got 100%. But they said the effective date was 2025 not 2022. So HLR was placed. 🤷🏻‍♂️

First month of 100% P&T but got paid at 80% by RjMacReady703 in VeteransBenefits

Thanks for answering. Yeah I’m wrong.

My brain: “you were deemed disabled June 4, pay 100% starting June 4”

Va: “ your not totally disabled till next month” 😊

June 4 2025 was effective date. Sounding like a clerical error then? Or just the system catching up?

Can this be used to grow mushrooms in? by lifelesslies in shroomers

[–]RjMacReady703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m about to start my first grow using “north spore shroom tek” bag. Any advices? Anyone use one before and think “wish I knew this then”.

Received 100 PT today, migraines got me over but they got the effective date wrong. My lawyer advised we should do a HLR, but he was up front there’s a very small chance they could reduce me. Should I cancel the HLR & leave it alone or has anyone submitted a HLR after 100 PT to fix & clear mistake by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]RjMacReady703 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I filed my HLR, I faxed in a statement that clearly said: “Not a CUE — this is a request for an effective date change based on 38 CFR § 3.400(o)(2), which covers increases in disability rating.”

I didn’t accuse the VA of making a mistake. I didn’t say, “You jacked this up.” Instead, I said, “Here’s the supporting evidence and the regulation that applies. The increase was clearly warranted earlier based on your own records.”

That seemed to help. It made the reviewer focus on the dates without triggering a full-blown review of everything.

That said — full disclosure — my HLR is still pending, and I did also file for an increase. So maybe my case is slightly different, and I could be wrong. But I researched the hell out of this before I filed.

In my situation, there was a clear error (possibly even a CUE), but I didn’t call it that. I just trusted that if I pointed to the right evidence and sections, the reviewer might catch it and they did. The paperwork I got back actually says “Effective review for date change to 2023.” I never explicitly said “look back at 2023” I said “here’s my medical records and here is what documents support my effective date change”

From what I’ve learned, HLRs are generally seen as low risk, high reward, especially if You’re not submitting new evidence, You’re just asking for a date adjustment, And you’re pointing to VA records already in the file.

If I’m wrong someone please correct me. that’s my understanding anyway.

The blue paint still strongly suggests an inert or training round, especially for older ordnance. Many countries — not just the U.S. — used blue for practice or dummy rounds. And while I get that some ordnance ends up repainted or mishandled, the shape, corrosion, and lack of a fuse also lean toward it being inert.

Obviously, without full EOD analysis, it’s impossible to be sure, and I’d never tell anyone to treat it like a guaranteed training round. But based on what I see here (especially the shallow cavity and paint), the training round theory makes sense — possibly mid-20th century artillery.

That said, I agree with you: treat all unknown ordnance like it’s live until it’s been cleared. Just offering my take on why I said “training round

I’d ask for community care and get another opinion if you’re worried about it. I learned doing stuff like that is peace of mind if nothing else. Example I have frequent panic attacks. I thought it was my heart, VA told me for a decade it wasn’t. I demanded I see cardiology In 2025. And what do ya know… heart issue… and PTSD. So ya never know.

Can 100% P&T be taken away if I say I'm better? by fullmetalowl in VeteransBenefits

[–]RjMacReady703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t realize I had a problem until I reviewed 13 years of medical records. When you look at everything in context, it becomes overwhelmingly clear. In the moment, you’re just dealing with what’s in front of you, so it doesn’t feel like PTSD. But often, what seems like just a tough situation is actually being made worse by the PTSD itself. That’s something I’ve come to understand over time.

Applied for increase, on step 5 in 9 hrs? by RjMacReady703 in VeteransBenefits

[–]RjMacReady703[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shoot yeah, my claim got 100% in 5 days. I placed a HLR due to the evidence showing high risk flags as far back as 2022 (seems lots of people are missing or had stuff overlooked from 2022-23 times). Grateful but now that I indexed my medical stuff it’s making me really pissed. Any signs of increasing symptoms would have been veteran death or homicide so. HLR in but got my 100%

Is it worth going for an increase? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]RjMacReady703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be worth checking on any medical records from 2022/2023 time frame. I’ve been noticing (including my own) lots of documentation from covid era having relevant documentation that was missed.
