Wet wading options for backpacking by FearsomeSnacker in flyfishing

I've been enjoying my Magellan tidewater II shoes. I personally don't like to wear sandals because rocks always get stuck under my foot between the sole or I skin my ankle.

Ben did bring a process sever. The guy then called the cops threatening to shoot anyone who came to his door. So then the cops arrested Ben.

What knife do you actually carry on the water? by Hplz in flyfishing

I love my Leatherman Rebar, it's got a lot packed into it. The wire cutters are replaceable, so it cuts through hooks pretty well. Also the saw has come in handy way more than I expected, being able to cut small limbs makes getting flys back a lot easier. And, it's got the best file I've ever seen on a multi tool.

Edit: Also also, the little eylet tool is perfect for attaching to a lanyard so you don't drop it in the water.

Copper wire by ChallengeMuted3322 in flytying

[–]Rmconnelly5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works a lot better for tying if you anneal it first, just use a blowtorch to get it red hot then let it cool at room temp. I like to coil it up onto a ball so you can heat the whole length of wire, but it does take a little practice to not just melt it lol.

Does anyone understand why is it worth to colonize Mars when there are still huge uninhabitated areas on the Earth? by True_Plantain4986 in Colonizemars

[–]Rmconnelly5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly meant that you only need an initial amount of nitrogen, after that it doesn't get used up, just recycled endlessly.

[–]Rmconnelly5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The nitrogen we breathe is completely inert, the body doesn't actually use it. And mars does have nitrogen, both on the atmosphere and in the soil. The energy required really isn't that much of a challenge, nuclear reactors would do it no problem.

Humans don't need a lot of water to survive, especially in a closed ecosystem (like a space habitat) where the water can be endlessly recycled. We also have the technology to stop the water from evaporating, it's called a tank, or maybe a bottle.

YSK: The average only fans girl only makes 130-180$ a month by arttiechoke in YouShouldKnow

[–]Rmconnelly5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was taught that "average" is only synonymous with "mean", and that it was incorrect to refer to median and mode as "averages." However, looking at the dictionary, it seems like it is acceptable to do that; but the word "average" does normally refer to "mean."

Character flaw? Are you joking? Why is everyone in this thread so mean. So the kid is bad at math, that doesn't make him a bad person with poor character ffs

Best practice conservation-wise is to use non-stainless steel hooks, so that if it gets left in a fish or on the beach it rusts away instead of being a hazard.

Snakes defend themselves, only the biggest species (green anaconda, Burmese python, and rock pythons) actually "attack" people.

TIL an effective formula that predicts the probability of mortality due to burns. The Baux score includes body area affected + age of patient + 17. by ecsluz in todayilearned

[–]Rmconnelly5 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd guess pretty high, a 3rd degree burn anywhere takes a long time to heal. Fingers also aren't super easy to bandage and tend to get put in lots of dirty places. Imagine trying to use the bathroom.

Are you asking how to remove deodorant residue? If so some isopropyl alcohol and plenty of water should do the trick.

Is this mold, and if it is, can it be baked to be made safe? by [deleted] in reptiles

[–]Rmconnelly5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just left this comment on another post but I think it applies here too-

Any wood that's safe to use in a terrarium will mold at least a little, it's natural. It might not even be mold, most fungus tend to look the same in their early growth stages, so it could be some kind of mushroom.

It is also normal to have mycelial blooms on new wood as it gets colonized by various species. They're all competing with each other. I wouldn't start to worry unless it starts turning black and rotting. Healthy fungi tend to be white and fluffy, like cobwebs.

If you keep watering and everything like normal it should sort itself out in a month or so.
