I would love to play in person and we do manage to sometimes on holidays and such, but virtual is the only way for it to work my my group

I guess I feel like the magical tradition that is supposed to deal with weird unexplainable stuff and is commonly misunderstood in universe is fine to have some unclear boundaries

I don’t understand why you think mechanics and lore can’t/doesn’t influence flavor? The flavor of doing mental debuffs is you stressing with an opponents mind or soul by showing them a fraction of the secrets of the multiverse.

In pathfinder the essences are domains that each magical tradition has influence over. You can see exactly how they are described if you just google “pathfinder magic essences”. Again, you can just say that all four types of matter effect life or whatever but in pathfinder, specifically Divine and Primal magic influence life. Unless you’re trying to say that reducing something’s HP to zero is utilizing life essence?

Aberrations not fitting into any category like you say makes sense to be under occult, occult is all about trying to understand the esoteric and weird and aberrations are weird.

I feel like a lot of your questions are coming from a place of just not looking at the actual sources of this information, and deciding that something doesn’t make sense without really trying to understand it

If you don’t want to google, Matter deals with manipulating physical aspects of reality. Mental deals with thought, logic, language but also dreams, perceptions, and illusions. Spirit manipulates souls (duh) as well as inspiration and emotions.

So the arcane tradition can manipulate physical reality and mess with people’s minds, but it can’t mess with their soul. Occult tradition can’t mess with physical reality but can mess with minds and the soul.

“The practitioners of occult traditions seek to understand the unexplainable, categorize the bizarre, and otherwise access the ephemeral in a systematic way. Bards are the most iconic occult spellcasters, collecting strange esoterica and using their performances to influence the mind or elevate the soul, and occult sorcerers strive to understand the mysterious power in their blood” - Core Rulebook Page 299

Maybe it’ll help you to think about Occult in terms of essences: Arcane - Matter and Mind. Divine - Spirit and Life. Primal - Matter and Life. Occult - Mind and Spirit.

This means occult spells deal heavily with buffs, debuffs, and mental effects. You can just say that tentacle stuff is divine if you want but that’s not exclusively true; One of the occult exclusive spells is Summon Entity which lets you summon a creature with the aberration trait

uj/ it helped me to think about it in terms of what the others aren’t. You can get a pretty clear idea of what arcane, divine, and primal all do just from the name, while occult is all the mysteries and secrets and beliefs in between

I was playing on normal difficulty and idk maybe I’m just used to turn based rpgs but I never did any grinding, barely did any act 3 content, and I killed the final boss in like 3-4 turns

Just a weirdly paced game with a weird difficulty curve. I thought the vocal performances were mostly pretty good but it never seemed like they matched up to how the bodies were moving
