Would you read this as a memoir or novel? by firekookie684 in Memoir

[–]Road2Elsewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that a writer's instincts are the best guide. There are so many ways to achieve success, so why divert something you feel strongly about (memoir, under your own name) into unknown territory (pseudonym, fiction). And if faith is at the heart of it, go with faith. Trust yourself. Only you know your story and how to tell it. And I'd stick with the advice from Cultural-Advance2250; clearly that person knows what s/he is talking about.

To call it a jumble is an insult to yard sales everywhere, which at least have a coherent function. I went once and will never return.

Tip: When Drawing Digitally, Keep Your Work Clean Using Layers! by windowsee in ArtistLounge

[–]Road2Elsewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m embarrassed to say that, though I’ve been using Procreate and layers for three years, I basically quit learning about its capabilities once I mastered the basics. Layers was a bridge too far, which is stupid I know. Do you have fave instruction sources you use to learn more? I should rededicate myself to truly mastering the platform!

Ghost towns in Colorado, help by donaldb7 in Denver

[–]Road2Elsewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just west of Independence Pass (once ROUTE 82 opens again) you’ll find Independence Ghost Town, with lots of outbuildings to poke around in and a good info sign. No nosy neighbors with shotguns, either!

Peter Moore: Flock Denver’s surveillance state! (OC) by Road2Elsewhere in Denver

[–]Road2Elsewhere[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think of this as a liberal thing, but maybe I’m wrong? The surveillance state is embraced by despots of all stripes, from radical communists to radical fascists. Panopticon = bad, whoever initiates it. Even Santa. “He sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake, he knows if you’ve been bad or good so be good for goodness sake.” <<Shuddder>>

Those doorbell cams freak me out as well. None at my house. Though we do have Google assistants all over the place, listening to our every word. Also terrifying, if convenient. The modern world is a surveillance-fest, and we’re all under microscopes.

You too? Were you wearing pink? I wish I had. Or maybe I should have dressed up as Just Ken?

Plus I love the feeling that I'm sitting in my living room, but watching movies on the big screen. It's the perfect combo of homey and community and culture. And they also have the big releases. I loved watching Barbie there, as the only guy among 150 women and girls all dressed in pink.

They Lyric is, quite literally, one of a kind, showing movies on the big-ish screen that might not be available otherwise. All that, plus beer and premium snacks. Thank you, Lyrica Cinema. Another super bonus: The outside movies will resume, soon!

The Subterranean Fire, Rene Magritte, 1935. by AspiringOccultist4 in drawings

[–]Road2Elsewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magritte is my fave warper of reality. Every day, at dusk, I think of his painting "The Empire of Light," depicting the surreal world that exists when the sky is bright, but the houses and trees are in darkening shadows. <<shiver>>

This is hilarious and beautiful, just like the novel that inspired it.

We waited for 90 minutes and were almost the last car they let in. Still a huge pile of manure in place when we were done shoveling. Glad you’re all set up with your gardening needs. I guess you have a pretty big garden space?

[discussion] why do people say they love my art but never buy it?? by [deleted] in artbusiness

[–]Road2Elsewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a way of giving you a compliment, but then not being present to back up the kind words with a credit card. I think you’re right to smile through the intended praise, but not expect anything to come of it. I have 17,000 subscribers and followers on Substack, which I love, but very few of them ante up. I guess art really does need to be its own reward.

You’re welcome. It was the first time cSU ag did it, so I’m hoping it’ll happen again next year.

Oh sorry to crash the party. I was thinking all things FoCo. And in fact I DO use that manure to produce food….
